U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins offered encouragement to conservatives at a town hall forum that the Republican Party would embrace a “great white hope” capable of thwarting the political agenda endorsed by Democrats who control Congress and President Barack Obama.

Jenkins, a Topeka Republican in her first term in Congress, shared thoughts about the GOP’s political future during an Aug. 19 forum at Fisher Community Center in the northeast Kansas community of Hiawatha.

In response to inquiries by The Topeka Capital-Journal, a Jenkins spokeswoman said Wednesday the congresswoman wanted to apologize for her word choice and to emphasize she had no intention of expressing herself in an offensive manner.

Translation? “Sorry I got caught, next time I’m a racist I’ll make sure there aren’t any reporters around.”

This is not to be confused with the guy from a couple days ago who compared Michelle Obama to a gorilla. Or the conservative mayor who sent around a picture of the White House and watermelons. Or the guy who sold t-shirts comparing Barack Obama to a monkey.*

Those were all separate incidents, and if one were to point out that the right has apparently ramped up its reflexive racism in the wake of President Obama’s election… well that would just be mean.

* UPDATE: Also that guy who made a racist remark on Twitter. But not a part. No sireee. Not at all. Look over there, a pony. A BLACK pony.

A North Texas legislator during House testimony on voter identification legislation said Asian-descent voters should adopt names that are “easier for Americans to deal with.”

The comments caused the Texas Democratic Party on Wednesday to demand an apology from state Rep. Betty Brown, R-Terrell. But a spokesman for Brown said her comments were only an attempt to overcome problems with identifying Asian names for voting purposes.

He claims he didn’t mean anything racial by it.

Jesus.

Chip Saltsman, a candidate for chairman of the Republican National Committee, sent committee members this month a holiday music CD that included “Barack the Magic Negro,” a parody song first aired in 2007 by talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Until the Republican party kicks the racial habit, they’ll continue to be a minority monochromatic party from the south.

This election could very well be GOP racism’s last stand.

An email sent by Hillsborough County Republican Party chairman David Storck has some local party supporters claiming it’s racist.

The email, written by a volunteer at the party’s Temple Terrace office, was forwarded by Storck to hundreds of party members. It says, in part, “I see carloads of black Obama supporters coming from the inner city to cast their votes for Obama. This is their chance to get a black president and they seem to care little that he is at minimum, socialist, and probably Marxist in his core beliefs. After all, he is black–no experience or accomplishments–but he is black.”

The head of a New Mexico Republican women’s group is being pressured to resign after calling Barack Obama a “Muslim socialist” and claiming that “Muslims are our enemies.”

Marcia Stirman is the head of the Republican Women of Otero County.

She included her criticism of Obama in a letter published Tuesday in the Alamogordo Daily News. In a separate interview with The Associated Press, Stirman said she didn’t trust Muslims because “they are our enemies.” She added, “Why we’re trying to elect one is beyond me.”

Just tell us how you really feel.

Appearing on Dennis Miller’s radio show, Keating charged that the Democratic nominee was covering up his ‘very extreme’ record, and urged Obama to be more honest with Americans. ‘He ought to admit,’ Keating said, ”You know, I’ve got to be honest with you. I was a guy of the street. I was way to the left. I used cocaine. I voted liberally, but I’m back at the center.”

At this point, with the McCain campaign taking on water and these sleazy attacks getting more desperate, it’s only a matter of time before the “N” bomb is deployed. They’ve already tried to dehumanize Obama by calling him “that one”, made clear references to him being a terrorist sympathizer, and they can’t help trying to push his middle name as a signifier of some dark “other”. The nails are in the coffin for McCain, it’s just a matter of how hard to pound them in.

Sarah Palin’s been unleashed.

In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric’s questions for her “less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media.” At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, “Sit down, boy.”

The spokeswoman for the Republican Party in Nevada’s most populous county was removed from her post Saturday, after she said the Democratic Party made black people ‘dependent on the government.’
Didi Lima, the Clark County GOP communications director, also was removed from her volunteer role as a Hispanic community liaison for Republican John McCain’s presidential campaign over the remarks made earlier in the day while working at a McCain campaign booth.

‘We don’t want (Hispanics) to become the new African-American community,’ Lima told The Associated Press. ‘And that’s what the Democratic Party is going to do to them, create more programs and give them handouts, food stamps and checks for this and checks for that. We don’t want that.’

‘I’m very much afraid that the Democratic Party is going to do the same thing that they did with the African-American culture and make them all dependent on the government and we don’t want that,’ she said.

Embattled Bernalillo County Republican Party Chairman Fernando C. de Baca has officially resigned.

The state Republican Party officially reported the resignation in a news release just after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Last weekend, C. de Baca was quoted in a BBC News blog as saying, “The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors. African-Americans came here as slaves. … Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won’t vote for a black president.”

At the rate they’re going, hispanic Americans are going to look at hispanic Republicans the way blacks look at black Republicans/conservatives: A little sad and a lot amused.

A conservative political forum on Saturday sold boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

The product, Obama Waffles, was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix and sold it for $10 a box from a booth at the Values Voter Summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama’s politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the image of the classic pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland used the racially-tinged term ‘uppity’ to describe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Thursday.

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

‘Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,’ Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word ‘uppity,’ Westmoreland said, ‘Uppity, yeah.’”
