I’m not kidding. I heard via my cousin and aunt who live down there that they’re having trouble getting gas - and when they do get it it’s up to something like $4.10 a gallon.
I haven’t seen anything about it in the national news, however.

DRILL, Baby, DRILL.
Senior Justice Department officials blocked the U.S. attorney in Colorado from supporting a whistleblower’s suit last year, jeopardizing the government’s prospects for recovering as much as $40 million from a major oil company for its alleged underpayment of royalties.
U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said Washington overruled his request to enter the case against the [...]
Yes, we need to multiply the existing rot times 10,000. More of the same.
This must have been what the GOP conventioneers meant when they said drill, baby, drill.
As Congress prepares to debate expansion of drilling in taxpayer-owned coastal waters, the Interior Department agency that collects oil and gas royalties has been caught up in a wide-ranging ethics scandal — including allegations of financial self-dealing, accepting gifts from energy [...]
He’s oh so upset at the government apparently somehow making money off of the oil industry’s record profits. Or something.
Yes, it is sure a good idea to leave our energy future up to a bunch of oil rigs in the ocean.
The twittering astroturfers on the right call for a march on Washington to demonstrate their support for oil companies. If only they cared as much about our country as they do the big industries they shill for. And why can’t the modern conservative movement do any better than astroturf? The evangelical right may have been [...]
Well, the thing is the oil industry has made a multimillion dollar investment in John McCain and now they’re looking for a return on that.
From a new Rasmussen poll:
With energy issues taking center stage in the presidential campaign, 81% of Americans see development of new energy sources as an urgent priority. Only 9% disagree.
For nearly two-thirds (65%), finding new sources of energy is more important that reducing the amount of energy Americans now consume. Twenty-eight percent (28%) think reducing [...]
That’s an oil change we can’t believe in.
My friends, that’s not change we can believe in.
Despite what appears to be a middle-class lifestyle, the couple has written $61,600 in checks to John McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee, most of it within days of McCain’s decision to endorse offshore oil drilling.
At a June fundraiser, the Rocchios joined top executives [...]
One candidate is getting backing from the oil industry in such a disproportionate way. So the American people should ask themselves: Do you really think that candidate is going to do a thing about high oil prices or the addiction of the nation to oil? Those oil barons aren’t giving McCain money because they like [...]
Really?
Members of the Coast Guard attempt to contain a fuel oil spill in the Mississippi River at the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana July 24, 2008. A chemical tanker split a fuel barge in half on the Mississippi River on Wednesday, spilling thousands of gallons of fuel oil and forcing the closure of a 58-mile [...]
CNN’s Glenn Beck shows us some conservative math.
Glenn Beck falsely claimed that “drilling in ANWR alone would yield 100 million barrels a day.” In fact, according to Energy Department researchers, if the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is opened for drilling for oil in 2008, the estimated peak production would yield, at most, 1.45 million barrels [...]
President Bush (is he still there?) accused Democrats in congress today of being the cause of our current high gas prices. Of course, congress has been Democratic for just over a year, and much of the problems with the cost of oil comes from that unnecessary war Mr. Bush started in the middle east. It [...]
No actual core to the man, John McCain’s flip flopping is going from stupid to ludicrous.
Yesterday McCain and the GOP made a lot of noise about their opposition to a windfall profits tax for the oil industry. But a few months ago, in view of those cameras he loves so much, John McCain had a different position:
JOHN MCCAIN: I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere–and I’d be glad [...]
Now that is change you can’t believe in.
Here is rare footage of one of Sen. McCain’s biggest backers at work:
