The hypocrisy, critics say, lies in CNN’s decision to woo Hispanic viewers with a prime-time documentary while still giving Mr. Dobbs a nightly forum. Roberto Lovato, a founding member of Presente.org, a Latino advocacy group, said in a statement, “We won’t allow the network to court us as viewers while, at the same time, they allow Dobbs to spread lies and misinformation about us each night.”

Separately, Mr. Dobbs is also the target of a “Drop Dobbs” campaign by the progressive groups NDN, Media Matters for America, and others. That effort started after Mr. Dobbs repeatedly raised questions about President Obama’s birth certificate.

There is no indication that the campaigns are affecting CNN’s revenue, but they are highlighting Mr. Dobbs’s status as an outlier at the channel, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena. Mr. Dobbs is known to be exploring an exit from CNN, and he is viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network, an upstart channel owned by the News Corporation.

As I’ve said before, Lou Dobbs already has a Fox News show… it just happens to be on CNN.

CNN is planning to challenge the AP with their own news wire service. Isn’t that a lot like, on the day the first Model T hit the streets, a businessman turns to the other and says “I’m going to make a better horse drawn carriage and I’ll beat that automobile!” The news media is sort of in that place film was at the introduction of TV, coming up with all sorts of gimmicks like 3D and Smell-o-vision. Industries never like to acknowledge when new technology has effectively re-worked the way they do business — and they so often react in the dumbest way possible.

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow will join CNN as a conservative commentator beginning today, it was announced by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S.

“In the White House, Tony brought a remarkably human touch to the discussion of public policy, which he will continue to do as part of the Best Political Team on Television,” Klein said. “He will contribute a unique breadth of political and journalistic expertise to what is already the most provocative and wide-ranging political analysis on the air.”

“I’m delighted to be able to join CNN during the most exciting and unpredictable political year in memory,” Snow said. “The big challenge in 2008 is to develop deep, creative and aggressive analysis of both political parties, their candidates and campaigns. With Snow on CNN and Rove on Fox, why don’t they just hire Bush to give analysis of himself? Oh, crap, there’s some idiot programming exec out there who thinks that’s seriously a good idea.

The media wraps John McCain in its arms and protects Widdle John from the tough questions.

On [CNN's] Ballot Bowl, Jim Acosta reported on an appearance by Sen. John McCain at his former high school in Virginia in which a student asked McCain to clarify why he was visiting the school if not for political reasons. Acosta claimed that the student “apparently … started heckling the senator” and twice referred to her as a “heckler.” In fact, the question came during a question-and-answer session, and, according to a transcript of the event, McCain called on the student.

NBC’s Chris Matthews: “The press loves McCain. We’re his base.”

“This is the beginning. And then they will train others. And I will be training others,” Gore said.
