Almost every story about Obama nominating Clinton to be his secretary of state has focused on their relationship, but I really wish they would write and report about the job itself. Bush has seriously wrecked the authority of America in the world, and Secretary Rice is just another one of his yes-men who really has [...]

Barack Obama News
My prediction - and I made the same prediction for John Kerry if he had won - for President-elect Obama is that for the first year when it comes to domestic squabbles the biggest pain in his butt will be from the left of his own party rather than the right.
The current GOP is [...]
Jimmy Kimmel checks with a barbershop to see how far he can go with Obama jokes.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. But don’t tell that to the media and the pundit class who is now trying to figure out just what message President-Elect Obama is sending with his cabinet choices so far. Some would say that this is just a way to fill up air time between now and [...]
Five Obama press conferences, zero questions for Fox News. Perhaps they’ll rethink their editorial policy of referring to liberals as terrorists now.
Yeah, right.
UPDATE: Fox News brought on Omarosa as an expert on Obama’s foreign policy. Granted, she worked as a low level person in the Clinton administration but the reason she’s even someone who we [...]
President-elect Obama is from Illinois and he said he was reading “Team Of Rivals” and that is all it took for the media - going on almost three weeks now - to go nuts with the meme. It’s not even true! Sen. Clinton threw back and forth campaign rhetoric but in substance their foreign policy [...]
Woot.

I’m thankful my country elected a good man to set right what has gone wrong.
Conservatives in print, broadcast, and online have tried to make hay about the market going down in the last few weeks - trying lamely to tie it to Obama’s election despite the evidence to the contrary that the market downturn for the past year to year and a half is a clear outgrowth of Republican [...]
WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama plans to retain and promote COG soldier Marcus Fenix when he is sworn in as president. Fenix currently leads his team of “Gears” in Delta squad but is expected to be promoted to Gears Chief Of Staff under Obama. “This shows that Obama takes the Locust threat seriously”, said Cory [...]
I was down in D.C. today on The Mall (I was visiting the re-opened National Museum of American History) and from there I could see the scaffolding of the stands being built on the Capitol for the Inauguration. It took me right back to election day to see that. Very exciting, America.
President-elect Obama talked in his radio address about infrastructure investment to create jobs. In addition to public works may I suggest… MARS? Not only would a Mars mission help science-related jobs but we need blue collar work for it as well.
Probably a pipe dream but a boy can dream.
I’m just sayin‘.
The Obama folks have been leaking like a sieve - the Clinton vetting and Rahm Emanuel job offer were all over the place. At the end of the day, leaking that kind of stuff is no biggie so I don’t care if its off message, but it shows that inside folks don’t have the bunker [...]
I’ve mostly ignored this because until any cabinet announcements are made there isn’t much real news to it. That said, if President Clinton’s entanglements are going to make it a pain in the ass, I’d rather they not do it. Secretary of State, especially post-Bush, is an important and tough job. I think Sen. Clinton [...]
Take how you feel about taxation out of the equation for a second. I don’t know about you but I was amazed that President-elect Obama was able to say that he would increase the tax rate of high earners and didn’t seem to pay a politicial penalty for it. It isn’t something he said months [...]

Change has indeed come to America.
Including the Irish.
Dropping the kids off at school, why are all these cameras here?
Jeez Louise.
Undo, baby, undo.
Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

Leave Sasha and Malia Obama alone.
That is all.
- Before conservatives express their concern for government surveillance?
- Before the right thinks there’s too much power in the executive?
- Before the right complains about use of military power?
It is coming.
And for our part on the left, just off the top of my head I’ll say that I want Obama to regularly schedule press conferences, [...]
So, President-elect Obama has picked a chief of staff with a reputation for knowing the ins and outs of passing legislation and for being hard-nosed about it? Shocker. Ask President Clinton if he could have used a Rahm-type when they tried to pass the health care reform bill back in the ’90s.
What’s next?
I understand, on one hand, to have experienced people on vital issues - such as Treasury Secretary. But I’d like to see new people who aren’t Clintonistas get a crack at prime time. Also, while he’s clearly better than Rumsfeld (then again, who isn’t?), I’m not wild about keeping Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense. [...]
I want to write up a longer blog entry about What It All Means to me and my family (particularly my Mom in Jamaica, who has been alternating between Obama chants at the top of her lungs and sessions of jubilant crying) but I just can’t collect my thoughts yet, still. I’m a million miles [...]
Last night, I heard the following yelled by a man in front of the White House:
Washington!
Lincoln!
Obama!
The First Family-Elect.
15 - Obama
6 - McCain
First Democratic win in Dixville Notch since 1968. They went 19-7 for Bush in 2004.
As President Bartlett would say: What’s next?
Together, we can change the world.
Sen. Barack Obama saved his biggest Virginia rally for last — bringing out more than 85,000 people to the Prince William County Fairgrounds on the eve of Election Day.
The Democratic presidential nominee’s final major rally before voters head to the polls brought Obama back to where he kicked off his [...]
Man, that’s awful.
Barack Obama says that his grandmother has died. The Democratic presidential candidate announced the news in a joint statement with his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng. He said his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, had died peacefully after a battle with cancer.
He said: ‘She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, [...]
This is C.K., my dog. CK turns 9 at the end of November. For the vast majority of his weiner dog life, he’s lived under a Republican president. Specifically, the worst president ever. C.K. would dearly like it if you voted for Barack Obama.
I just spoke to my 80-something year old grandmother who lives in Georgia. She got her citizenship a few years ago, and recently voted in her first presidential election. I asked her if she was happy to vote for John McCain.
We laughed.
So, um, go vote.
Powerful stuff.
From remarks to be delivered by Sen. Obama
I’d like to congratulate Senator McCain on this endorsement because he really earned it. That endorsement didn’t come easy. Senator McCain had to vote 90 percent of the time with George Bush and Dick Cheney to get it. He served as Washington’s biggest cheerleader for going to war [...]
Obama now leads by 10 in Gallup’s most McCain-friendly measure of the likely voters this election.
McCain’s got us right where he wants us.
You Can Vote However You Like lyrics:
Sen. Obama is up by 8 in Gallup’s traditional voter model. That’s the most McCain friendly measure of the state of the race. Perhaps 30 minutes of prime time tv is a good thing for a candidate (duh!).
Hundreds, maybe thousands, of people are in line today to vote in Atlanta, Georgia.
These are not McCain voters.
Offense baby. OFFENSE.
Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is taking the unprecedented step of launching its first advertising in rival John McCain’s home state of Arizona.
Obama campaign manager David Plouffe announced the advertising buy this morning, saying the campaign also would relaunch advertising in Georgia, where it hasn’t advertised in several months, and start advertising in North [...]
If we want America to be great again, to be one step closer to the ideals as detailed in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, we must elect Barack Obama as our 44th president.
Leadership
The most important reason to elect Obama is the gaping void of leadership in our country. We need a steady had to [...]
Hit ‘em where they live, hit ‘em where it hurts.
Sen. Obama’s commercial last night increased network ratings 13%.
In Gallup’s old likely voter model - the most McCain friendly projection - Obama has moved his lead back up to 5%.
One thing I’ve noticed is that in many swing states - Colorado, Virginia, and in some polls Nevada - Obama is over 50%. Back in 2004, that was not the case with Sen. Kerry. [...]
“I realize that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don’t fit the typical pedigree, and I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington.
But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the naysayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me; [...]
Sen. Obama’s really good primetime commercial is now online:
As OW.com readers know, we place a special value on people who have gone into space. Sally Ride went into space. And she endorses Obama.
Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, endorsed the Democratic candidate on Wednesday in an op-ed published in the Orlando Sentinel.
Comparing Obama’s inspirational capabilities to those of JFK, she writes, [...]
I don’t like making predictions, but I think this is one worth making. Sen. Obama will win Pennsylvania. The right wing blogs are constantly atwitter about secret McCain polls showing the race there as “close” but for whatever faults state polls might have, not a single one in Pennsylvania has shown a McCain lead there [...]
The forensics on the Sarah Palin pick are going to go down in history.
The Democratic Party has learned two vitally important lessons since 2000.
1. Stand up for what you believe in. If you’re going to be Republican Lite, people will just vote Republican.
2. Show up. You concede to the other side when you don’t even try.
After 148 years, a Democratic candidate is showing up in Harrisonburg, VA. His [...]
… in Indiana, which went for President Bush by 20% in 2004 and 15% in 2000. Even Bob Dole won Indiana.
For someone with Jamaican roots, this is pretty cool.
Please donate what you can. America needs this. Badly.
New poll (pdf) shows Obama +11 over McCain in Virginia…
ALSO: New polls show a 2-4 point lead for McCain… in Arizona! He’ll likely win it, but by comparison Sen. Obama has about a 25% lead in Illinois.
If you’ve wondered why Barack Obama is winning and John McCain is losing, look no further than these two ads, designed to close the deal for each candidate. It’s like Obama is playing basketball at Michael Jordan level and McCain is holding a deflated basketball to his head and wondering what the hell the whole [...]
We’ll know in 9 days if Colorado is really a “swing” state any more.
AP: Police: Crowd for Obama rally tops 100,000
Police estimate the crowd for a rally by Sen. Barack Obama at well over 100,000.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the crowd Sunday spilled out of Civic Center Park to the State Capitol and onto surrounding [...]
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is no ordinary time.”

There Is No Obama Inaugural Address Written
But thanks to sloppy work from the New York Times and the desperate McCain campaign, the idea has entered the public consciousness.
Ready.
18 days ago, Hugh Hewitt said that the race was closing and it would lead to a McCain win.
Here is a chart of the polling from Hewitt’s prediction to date:
Here is the stock price for Sen. Obama on Intrade since Hewitt made his prediction:
The Hewitt Indicator still holds and it flashes BLUE for an Obama [...]

I mean, who saw this coming??? Heh.
Mr. Obama has met challenge after challenge, growing as a leader and putting real flesh on his early promises of hope and change. He has [...]
The beginning…
There have been predictions all year of a record black turnout for Obama. The first actual figures suggest that wasn’t just talk:
_ In North Carolina, blacks make up 31 percent of early voters so far, even though they’re just 21 percent of the population and made up only 19 percent of state’s overall 2004 [...]
I kind of doubt Obama will win Montana, but I like the movement there anyway.
