“The three Atlantic City casinos once run by Donald Trump filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday — for the third time. Trump Entertainment Resorts made the filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden, N.J., four days after the real estate mogul whose name remains on the company and its three seaside gambling resorts resigned as chairman of its board.” [Link]

“The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Nevada gaming authorities are warning casinos to be on the lookout for blackjack card counters getting an assist from their iPhones. While card counting itself is not banned in Nevada, the use of an assistive technology is a felony (!), and apps like Card Counter or A Blackjack Card Counter make it much easier for the math-impaired. “Nevada reported a 15 percent drop in gross revenue at casinos in November, and Atlantic City posted its biggest monthly drop ever, down 18.7 percent. It marked the second year in a row that casino revenues fell in Atlantic City, where revenues had done nothing but increase for 28 straight years, since gambling was legalized there in 1978.” [Link]

“Nevada gambling regulators have filed a complaint against a Las Vegas gay bar that holds a slot machine license, alleging that several patrons engaged in sex acts in public areas of the bar. The Gaming Control Board complaint filed against Snick’s Place and licensee Dominic Vitale lists seven counts, each punishable by a fine of up to $100,000. The club’s license for up to 15 slot machines also could be revoked.” [Link]

“Vegas barreled through previous U.S. economic recessions with no problem, but the current slowdown — marked by home foreclosures and then high gasoline prices — has had a much bigger impact on the gambling mecca than economists expected. And while free rooms and room discounts have kept hotels relatively full — occupancy is down just 1 percent in the year to July — gambling revenue is down 6.5 percent.” [Link]
