John McCain: Elect Me And We'll Have More Wars

| | Comments (13)

Well, an admission from John McCain that he'll go on to more wars in addition to extending the failed war in Iraq. There, "Democratic consultants" is your first ad if he's the GOP nominee.

What McCain said: "There will be other wars."

The OW Translation: "Elect me and we'll have more wars."

I think you need to send your translator back for repairs.

I don't know, Jay, I don't see any other candidates stating there WILL be more wars. I would say Oliver is right, McCain clearly wants to be the War Candidate. And to be the war candidate, you gotta have wars.

Ok, so what? His comments still don't equate to, "Elect me and we'll have more wars." He could be talking about 20 years from now for all we know. Oliver's attempting to twist it into some kind of campaign promise and that's just stupid.

You really think it's likely that he's talking about 20 years from now?

All anyone has to do to destroy McCain is to make a commercial consisting of four video snippets:

McCain singing "Bomb Iran"
McCain saying there will be more wars.
McCain saying he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years.
McCain saying he doesn't know anything about economics.

The man who sang bomb Iran andwho sees no problem being in Iraq another 100 years is sure to be a staunch peace advocate.

What, you think he's warning about war's 10, 20, 50 years out? Like how after WWI they said "you know there's gonna be a II?"

This is a risk any sane person would want to take, because?

I don't know why we need more studies on the effects of toxins like mercury and lead on the human brain when we have 30% of the country still back the GOP.

Didn't they call WWI, "The war to end all wars"?

Guess they didn't have that one right did they?

I suppose McCain could put on a happy face and say, "I know that there will never be another war again" but I suspect the usual suspects would have gotten their knickers in a bunch over that.

Can anybody point to a time where the USA did not engage in a military action against another country? It would say that McCain was being more of a realist than anything else. Whatever you want to make of his comments, the REALITY is he was not saying, "Elect me and we'll have more wars." I mean, it's not all that difficult to discern.

Gotta go with Jay on this one. Fact is there will be economic reversals, some very major. And there will be a rise in the influence of other nations and a decline in US power around the world.

And there will be more wars.

It may not be politically wise to say so, but it is realistic plain speaking.

I would also say that politically it wasn't a very smart thing to do, but at the very least people can acknowledge that McCain wasn't making the equivalent of a campaign promise when he said it.

midderpidge said:

You have to be kidding me. McCain was clearly not speaking of some distant future. He is talking about an ongoing series of wars probably under the guise of the all inclusive War on Terror. SO I repeat, McCain wants to be the War Candidate.

Now where you missed an opportunity to lay credit on him is his acknowledgement that PTSD is going to be a major and growing concern as these wars continue.

bill l. said:

Come on, McCain clearly meant "other wars like Iraq" and was referring to the on going military industrial welfare trough known as the "War on Terra." This isn't mind reading, this is McCain trying to steer the subject to something he likes to pretend he knows something about, war. He certainly isn't going to let the Dems just steer the boat into murky economic waters he himself admits he doesn't understand. Everyone knows the GOP is going to do two things come campaign time, 1.)pretend that the cure for Bush's economic failures is more tax cuts for the rich, and 2.)Terrorists! Want! To! Kill! Us!

I love it. I think this would work better for Obama than Clinton, but I think Clinton would be more willing to do this.
