More "Phony Soldiers" Talk About Iraq
Time to send in Michelle Malkin to go harass the mothers and children of these clearly un-American guys. How dare they insult America like this!
"When we first got here, all the shops were open. There were women and children walking out on the street," Alarcon said this week. "The women were in Western clothing. It was our favorite street to go down because of all the hot chicks."That was 14 long months ago, when the soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, arrived in southwestern Baghdad. It was before their partners in the Iraqi National Police became their enemies and before Shiite militiamen, aligned with the police, attempted to exterminate a neighborhood of middle-class Sunni families.
Next month, the U.S. soldiers will complete their tour in Iraq. Their experience in Sadiyah has left many of them deeply discouraged, by both the unabated hatred between rival sectarian fighters and the questionable will of the Iraqi government to work toward peaceful solutions.
Asked if the American endeavor here was worth their sacrifice -- 20 soldiers from the battalion have been killed in Baghdad -- Alarcon said no: "I don't think this place is worth another soldier's life."
But remember kids, we're "winning"... according to some right wing blog somewhere that gets everything wrong.
Citizen JournalistTM John Cole is on the case to correct the media bias of this story.
I think since you are talking about ONE soldier's opinion, you should have titled it "Phony Soldier" talks about Iraq.....just for the sake of accuracy, I mean, as if the lefties CARE about accuracy...
Next month, the U.S. soldiers will complete their tour in Iraq. Their experience in Sadiyah has left many of them deeply discouraged...
And apparently the blind 20% don't CARE about pronouns.
You're sad, man. Your insistence that everything is going swimmingly in Iraq has nothing to do with the troops actually fighting it and everything to do with your childish refusal to admit you were wrong. About everything.
"your childish refusal to admit you were wrong. About everything."
The right has been wrong about so many things for so many years that one more error doesn't matter any more. So what if he makes a pronoun error or two, it pales compared to the overwhelming wrongness he has presented on this site alone.
spider this was classic oliver yellow journalism...
Use the royal "we" or "they", but quote a single soldier.
You expect me to believe that the entire 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division thinks with a single mind?
Bullshit. In fact, I would be willing to bet that the majority would disagree with with PVT Alarcon.
Hmm, a single soldier with a horrible story to tell about Iraq...where have I seen THAT before...
Yea spider, me and my 20% colleagues notice these things...
farkle you have clearly not read the article that Oliver quotes from. Go read it and come back here to re-read what you just posted.
fredfarkle: "spider this was classic oliver yellow journalism...

What the fuck are you talking about? They quote several soldiers in the story, or did you not even read it?
Of course you didn't, cause you are a conservative. You can't let facts enter your useless little head or you might start thinking for yourself. And then what would happen?
read the whole thing...didn't think you idiots would really argue the point.
Did you read the part about this being a neighborhood popular with Saddam's cronies? And yet the Post manages to find this particular little burg to write about.
Sort of like writing about how the local synogogue didn't treat the folks living in Auschwitz very well after the war for christs sake.
Critical thinking: it's not just for breakfast anymore...
Fred: "read the whole thing...didn't think "
Fix that for you.
"Sort of like writing about how the local synogogue didn't treat the folks living in Auschwitz very well after the war for christs sake."
I don't remember a whole lot of Jews killing Germans after World War II.
Also, I remember a lot of people on the left predicting this would happen. Saying ethnic violence would be a problem after the removal of Saddam and that 400,000 troops would be needed to stabilize Iraq.
But Bush and his cronies disagreed.
This is his fault.
"Critical thinking: it's not just for breakfast anymore..."
Then you should fucking try is some time.
yea CS I remember a lot of people on the left predicting 10,000 american deaths taking baghdad too....a blind pig finds an acorn now and then.
The germans didn't leave any jews behind numbnuts.....
Wow, Fred. So you went back to actually read the article and instead of admitting that your initial comment was ludicrous, you veered off into another direction: The reporter didn't cherry pick a single soldier, he cherry picked just this neighborhood.
Of course for that to actually stick you have to ignore this sentence: "The descent of Sadiyah followed a now-familiar pattern in Baghdad." Oh and this one: "In many formerly mixed neighborhoods of Baghdad, such as al-Amil and Bayaa, Shiites have become the dominant sect, with their militias the most powerful force."
And, of course, you'd have to overlook this statement which would suggest that the violence in this neighborhood is, rather than over reported, actually under reported, according to the US military:
Blockquote>"This is a dangerous place," said Capt. Lee Showman, 28, a senior officer in the battalion. "People are killed here every day, and you don't hear about it. People are kidnapped here every day, and you don't hear about it."
Oh yeah, and you obviously didn't read to the end of the piece:
So here is a story that focuses on one neighborhood as indicative of what's happening throughout baghdad with US soldiers suggesting that what's happening in this neighborhood is not only wide spread, but also underreported and under appreciated by military higher ups.
Do you want to go back and re-read the piece one more time and maybe actually finish it this time?
Jesus you people are fucking idiots.
"yea CS I remember a lot of people on the left predicting 10,000 american deaths taking baghdad too....a blind pig finds an acorn now and then."
Yeah, when was the last time the blind pigs on the right found anything?
Face the facts, the Left has be right about nearly everything while the right has been wrong.
Wrong about WMD.
Wrong about the cost.
Wrong about the troops needed.
Wrong about ethnic infighting.
Wrong about the time it would take.
Wrong about practically everything.
"The germans didn't leave any jews behind numbnuts....."
You're the one that brought up the analogy.
It's funny, DrFarkle there says many on the left were wrong about it costing 10,000 american lives to take baghdad, which just makes them right in a bigger sense: that Iraq was not much of a threat to anyone. Proving we had absolutely no reason to invade in the first place.
Still looking for those WMDs. Apparently we invaded Iraq because they were a doddering super power menacing their neighbors and us with aluminum tubes and vacuum cleaner engines. History weeps for you deluded idiots.
