Skin Of Their Teeth

Considering the way they played, the Redskins really should have lost today’s game. The offense was crap, special teams gave away an onside kick, only the defense brought it and that’s why they won.

Next week? The Patriots. Oh my. Heh.

For some reason, Fox decided to show us the last 16 seconds of the Giants-49ers blowout game (33-16 as I write this). Why? Showing Howie Long picking his nose for 16 seconds is more interesting than this game.

MAKE NO MISTAKE: The Redskins are 4-2, and that makes Oliver quite happy, ugly win or not.

In the NFL, as in life, a win is a win. Getting the victory despite ragged play is a sign of a good team.

Just to get it out of the way, New England crushed another pathetic team, (the 0-7 Dolphins), while Dallas handled the 2-4 Vikings with relative ease.

However, neither team had much of a test this week.

Any idea on what Whisenhunt was thinking on that 2-pt conversion call? I’m all for a little trickeration here and there…but that seemed very odd, given the circumstance.

I agree that the Patriots beating the hell out of the Dolphins is a yawner of a story. Why I remain on the side of believing the Pats to be a good team is the level at which the air game is playing. Brady is incredibly efficient, and he’s figured out that way of tossing high to Moss that Culpepper had back when they were both Vikings. And even when he can’t risk that pass to Moss in double coverage, he has Welker and Stallworth–second and third receivers who could be first receivers on a number of other teams.

They are putting these numbers up in a year that the running game is sputtering. Even if you don’t think they faced a test all year (I still say that Dallas actually forced them to adjust), you have to admit that the level of play is scary.

I’ve already said that. They are a good team, but not as good as their undefeated record would indicate.

The Cowboys are a different story.
