Newt Gingrich’s Name Rubs Up Against Impeachment Again

So one of the things that’s great (for Democrats) is the Republican party’s inability to control themselves. in this instance it’s Newt Gingrich in an interview with the far-right Newsmax discussing the recent decision by the Obama administration to cease supporting DOMA:

Gingrich even suggested that, if a “President Sarah Palin” had taken a similar action, there would have been immediate calls for her impeachment. Asked directly whether President Obama could be subject to articles of impeachment, Gingrich said, “I think that’s something you get to much later. But I think clearly it is a dereliction of duty. Clearly it’s a violation of his constitutional oath. Clearly it is not something that can be allowed to stand.”

First off, the Obama move is in the mainstream of presidential decision making – it is an action that goes up and down American history and includes Jefferson and Bush II. Secondly, here we have Newt Gingrich and the impeachment word. Again.

It was some time ago, but I remember it as one of the first political dramas I paid serious attention to. When Team Newt Gingrich decided to turn an extramarital presidential affair into a constitutional crisis, they laid bare the Republican party and eventually Gingrich, not Clinton was the one who lost his job. The Republican party, uninterested in listening to the American people, shot itself in the foot.

Gentlemen, go for it.
