Useless “Democrat” Mary Landrieu Does Big Oil’s Bidding Again

Bought and paid for.

Senator Mary Landrieu, Democrat of Louisiana, said Thursday that she would block confirmation of President Obama’s new budget director until the administration lifts the moratorium on deep-water oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

Ms. Landrieu, a steadfast supporter of the oil and gas industry, said that although she believes that Jack Lew is qualified to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget, she will place a hold on the nomination as long as the drilling pause is in place. The moratorium is set to expire on Nov. 30, although Department of Interior officials have hinted that it may be lifted sooner.

Another example of why Harry Reid is useless. Can you imagine a Republican senator blocking a Republican president’s nominee like this?

to be fair, it is a big portion of employers there, yes?

There’s so many Chamber of Commerce shills in our party

You sort of forgot that a lot of middle class livelihoods are dependent on the oil and gas industry in Louisiana. But if it makes you feel better to believe in fantasies about corporate boogeymen, go right ahead.

  8. ‘But if it makes you feel better to believe in fantasies about corporate boogeymen, go right ahead.’

Yeah, it’s not like BP destroyed the environment of something as inconsequential as the Gulf of Mexico while maintaining for weeks that there was really nothing to worry about as their Chief Executive spewed one fabrication after another about how insignificant the volume of oil gushing into the ecosystem was before being fired because he failed to convince anyone that the corporate lies he was shilling amounted to anything more than bullshit, or anything

  9. Adam Herman says:

And it’s not as if there are real people who depend on the oil industry for jobs. Democrats make a point of representing them. You and Oliver can fantasize about Blue Dogs in the pockets of Big Business, but Mary Landrieu is fielding angry calls here in the real world from constituents wanting to know when they can go back to work.

  10. durablend says:

Yeah you’re right Adam…poor poor BP. Not being allowed to destroy the rest of the planet for a buck. The nerve of that DAMN USURPER!

“FU^# YOUR JOBS” — everyone except Duros & Adam.

  12. As if there is absolutely no way the interest of an oil company and the people it supplies with oil products, and steady employment, could ever coincide.
I guess if one looks up “political shortsightedness” or “unintended consequences” one finds “see liberal, Democrat.”

Hmmm, aren’t “you people” always saying the only concerns business should have is to their shareholders and board and to hell with everyone else?

  15. Barry says:

Let’s not forget that the GOM is shut down only for US drilling. Obama actually gave PEMEX 1 billion dollars to drill in the same pond.

I was snorkeling in Clearwater Florida last weekend, water looked great and I saw more fish, dolphins, stingrays and turtles than I have ever seen there.

Maybe you should get out of the basement once in awhile.

“Hmmm, aren’t “you people” always saying the only concerns business should have is to their shareholders and board and to hell with everyone else?”

That is thier mentality, it used to be companies treated employees good, provided pensions, jobs, etc; now it is all about profit. They will send a factory to China to make more money.

I can play that game as well my mentality is whoever pays more, without pensions there is no reason to be loyal every company has a 401k.

  17. Adam Herman says:

If you think that keeping the oil industry in Louisiana shut down is good policy, that’s fine. it may be.

But Mary landrieu knows she’s toast if this goes on too long. And it ain’t because oil companies can vote. It’s because rig workers and their familes CAN.

  18. ‘And it’s not as if there are real people who depend on the oil industry for jobs.’

People depend on the armaments industry for jobs as well, does that mean we should support wars and conflicts because no matter how destructive and wasteful they are, it means Joe Sixpack can still buy smokes and porn with the proceeds?

  19. ‘As if there is absolutely no way the interest of an oil company and the people it supplies with oil products, and steady employment, could ever coincide.’

And if that means torching an entire ecosystem and the millions of jobs and an entire way of life it supported, then so be it; gotta get that wicked new Hummer after all…

  20. ‘But Mary landrieu knows she’s toast if this goes on too long.’

Maybe she should be more concerned about the long term environmental and health hazards to her state arising from the Macondo disaster and the constant potential for other spills perpetually looming on the horizon from the petroleum industry, instead of her re-election chances.

  21. “And if that means torching an entire ecosystem and the millions of jobs and an entire way of life it supported, then so be it…”
To call that an overstatement would be an understatement.
