Montana Tea Party Members Upset President Was Fired After Supporting Hanging Gays

Oh my.

A Montana tea party association’s board will reconsider kicking its president out of the group for an anti-gay exchange on Facebook after several members resigned over his dismissal, a board member said Wednesday.

The Big Sky Tea Party Association board of directors will vote on reinstating Tim Ravndal’s membership, most likely Monday, after a rancorous meeting on Tuesday night in which several people defended Ravndal, according to board member and former association president Roger Nummerdor.

But bringing Ravndal back into the fold could mean even worse consequences for the group’s unity, Nummerdor warned.

Seriously, the Birchers of the ’60s look at these guys and probably think “woah, reign it in a bit guys, that’s a little extreme.”

Okay, somebody please tell me Ravndal and Nummerdor are their Lord of the Rings cosplay names or something.

Remember in the other thread where we were joking that he got fired for saying these things in public? Does this make us right, or wrong, and which is worse?

  3. Jody says:

lol, I just posted about this in the other thread. Oliver is really on the ball.

Just shows the Tea Party is more than willing to show solidarity in the face of intolerance.

Intolerance of their own bigotry, anyway…

In or out. Make up your mind!

  5. hnice says:

Well, Quaker, I’m going to guess that they’re not going to go with ‘out’.

“In or out. Make up your mind!”

Judging by the history of anti-gay wing-nuts, I’m guessing “in,” and “hard and fast” while you’re at it.

What’s being downplayed in the haste to indict the entire Tea Party movement as a bunch of bigoted homophobes is the undeniable fact that the board of the Big Sky Tea Party in Montana voted to expel the bigot who joked about hanging gays as decorations. Moreover, they did so quickly:

Montana Human Rights Network organizers said they became aware of the Facebook posting on Friday after a couple of Montana political blogs reprinted the exchange. Organizer Kim Abbott said her organization immediately called for Ravndal’s removal and for the Big Sky Tea Party Association to clarify its position.

Two days later, Ravndal was gone.

“We think that they moved swiftly, they condemned the anti-gay rhetoric,” Abbott told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “We’re especially happy about the unequivocal statements that the tea party will not welcome this type of inflammatory, bigoted behavior into their party, and we hope they stick to it.”

I think that’s the real story, and speaks rather well for them.

There are theocratic countries out there where gays are still stoned to death, like Iran. Not sure why the Teabaggers/Republicans don’t move there.

Or that tax-free haven known as Somalia.

You do loves you some strawmen, Frank… does that mean that you, like the Scarecrow, don’t have a brain?

  11. Quaker in a Basement says:

Frank, please read the post at the top of this thread.

After they “voted to expel the bigot,” the nice people who have been unfairly indicted have since decided to reconsider.

  12. Jody says:

See guys, the fact that the Tea Party board voted to boot Ravndal completely negates those Tea Partiers that are demanding his reinstatement.

Therefore, there is no bigotry in the Tea Party. They cancel each other out.

  13. Zython says:

Frank, that would make sense if this were an isolated incident. However, when you look at all the radical talks within the movement, a pattern begins to emerge.

The fact that Acorn quickly fired the employees stung in that clownish video didn’t impress the right wingers at all. Why should this impress us?

Is this the best you can come up with? Really quite pathetic.

You’d think with all the dough that Uncle George is slinging around these days, you could afford a better shovel.

Or you could devote a little more effort to chronicling Democratic successes, but President Costanza isn’t making that task particularly easy at present either, is he?

Aww, how cute, Jody. You’re attempting to argue your way out of a paper bag and failing!

One guy makes one bigoted comment. He gets kicked out of the group. Other members from the group, whose numbers you can count on one hand, object and also leave the group. All of a sudden, the entirety of the Tea Party is now declared to be homophobes.

Hmm, sounds just as stupid as the people who demand all followers of Islam should be considered terrorists because a minority of followers of Islam actually are terrorists.
