New Republic Editor In Chief Marty Peretz: Muslims Unworthy Of 1st Amendment
Tweet

But, frankly, Muslim life is cheap, most notably to Muslims. And among those Muslims led by the Imam Rauf there is hardly one who has raised a fuss about the routine and random bloodshed that defines their brotherhood. So, yes, I wonder whether I need honor these people and pretend that they are worthy of the privileges of the First Amendment which I have in my gut the sense that they will abuse.
With repeated anti-Muslim hate speech from Peretz and the magazine’s support of the Iraq War, despite the occasional good work from some writers there, can we please quit pretending TNR is on the left. In this department, it could be argued that they’re even worse than National Review or The Weekly Standard. (via)

It’s a Bill of RIGHTS, not privileges. He can’t take them away.
Matt — exactly. I’m not sure he knows what ‘inalienable’ means.
Peretz…was he born in this country or is he an anchor baby?

Gee, flash back 70 years, and replace “Muslim” with “Jew” and “Jewish”. OK, NOW it’s ugly.
Yes, he is stupid. Also vile.
Matt–Exactly. Freedom of speech does not mean “…except for speech we really disagree with,” and freedom of religion does not mean “…except for the ones we really dislike.”
This is why rights cannot be put up for a vote.
That’s an extremely disturbing column.
What an odious little toad.
Free Exercise of Religion? No, Thanks.
The taming and domestication of religious faith is one of the unceasing chores of civilization.

TNR was radically pro-Israel 30 years ago. You’re only noticing now?
Also, I’m sure Peretz disputes that there are 1.2 billion Muslims out there because each Muslim should count as only 3/5ths of a person.

Peretz being a bigoted yanghole is not news, other than to confirm that he didn’t die yet.
