White House Deputy Chief Of Staff Apparently Praised Capitulation To Breitbart
Tweet
Breitbart rules their world.
But three Democratic sources said Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, singled the White House’s initial response to the incident out for praise in the regular 8:30 a.m. staff meeting Tuesday morning. The sources differed on the substance of Messina’s praise, but concurred that he had praised the speed of White House communications in response to the flap, which was driven by a misleadingly-edited video posted to Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government website.
One source, who is unhappy with the administration’s handling of the incident, paraphrased Messina’s remarks: ’We could have waited all day – we could have had a media circus – but we took decisive action and it’s a good example of how to respond in this atmosphere.’

Jim Messina’s ordering Survival Seeds and Goldline coins
Well, since it’s apparently OK for FOX News and right wing pundits and sundry Republican politicians and hopefuls to fan the flames of racism as a tactic for winning seats in November, I am sympathetic to the White House’s impulse to respond quickly to right-wing attacks and try to stay one step ahead of the enemy. All indications are that this is going to get uglier, and the Democrats are going to have to be fast on their feet.
But they sure screwed this up. And the worst part is that Shirley Sherrod is by all accounts a great public servant and a civil rights hero and didn’t deserve to be treated like this. Quick response isn’t everything. I hope they learn a lesson from this.
But liberals shouldn’t get to down on the Democrats for this. It’s absolutely disgraceful that they have to operate in this climate at this point in American history. There should be no tolerance for the game the right is playing. It’s sickening to see the Republicans and their allies disregarding the health of the Republic for their narrow partisan purposes. At long last, do the Republicans, the party of Lincoln, have no sense of patriotism? Is nothing more important than their ambitions for power?

By responding the way they did, Democrats empowered this kind of bullshit behavior from the Right.
I understand that, Quaker. Their response was a mistake, obviously. I’m just saying I understand they are trying to respond rapidly (something that was important in the successful 2008 campaign) in a twisted and perverse environment.
It’s interesting, although I’m not sure what it ultimately means, that now both the left and right are focusing their condemnations on Obama’s White House. Maybe it just means we all agree that there is no expectation that the right will conduct itself with honor or honesty.
Jim Messina is clearly an idiot.
Obama has apparently surrounded himself with and is taking advice from asshats.
Max Udargo — no, this doesn’t mean that “both sides agree.” Republicans are thrilled because it is the first unequivocally wrong action by the White House, whereas Democrats are angry because firing Sherrod on the unverified say-so of Breitbart was such a blatantly stupid thing to do.
Everything thing in Politico needs to be read with a mountain of salt.
Why does it seem that OW is more angry at the White House than he is at Brietbart and Fox News?
Because I expect the devil to be the devil, he didn’t need the help.
Luv, I’m not going to try to speak for Oliver, but this is my own $.02. This is par for Briebart and Fox. I’m mad at them, but not surprised. The NAACP has already admitted they got ‘snookered,’ and it looks like the White House did, too. I don’t know if angry’s the right word, but I’m certainly disappointed. They should be smarter than this.
This is emblematic of what is wrong with the entire Obama White House. A lying sack of shit pushes a big lie, FAUX news picks it up & runs with it, the pussies in the WH have to decide do they fight or do they wet themselves and beg not to be hurt. There has not been a single issue that this WH has fought FOR since they got there. Let the House carry water, let the Senate diddle & dither and just accept whatever they will give you. Let FAUX news dictate your action and reaction.
Everyone knows the only way to deal with a bully is to agree to everything they want, get on your knees and beg them not to hurt you – yeah this will work.
“They should be smarter than this.”
apparently, they thought they were …
D’OH! (facepalm)
Could we please just abandon the bipartisanship silliness, ignore the Republican noise machine and govern like a moderately liberal, educated, intelligent, thoughtful group of Democrats who know we’re right?
Although this kind of stuff is par for the course for Brietbart, the “liberal” media still falls for these “scandals” and the White House still has to deal with them dominating coverage. While I do agree they screwed the pooch on their handling of this, I can also see where they were coming from reacting so quickly. Instead of directing the brunt of the criticism at White House, the main focus should be on the MSM and how it follows the lead of Fox and runs with conservative faux-scandals without ever stopping to check the facts first.
Ding Ding Ding!!!! for bill bush.
Why afford these ass clowns another second of attention or serious consideration?
“Why afford these ass clowns another second of attention or serious consideration?”
Because (unfortunately) Obama’s White House operation takes assclowns like Drudge, Breitbart, and FOX news very, very seriously.
We can ignore them, but Rahm Emanuel sure isn’t. In fact, they’re driving the White House agenda and that’s what’s so fucked up about this.
I hear you. I only a corner has been turned with the latest bullshit storm fomented by the usual suspects and their followers. I hope this administration finally learned the lesson that you never trust these motherfuckers and never trusting them doesn’t make you an evil suspicious person. It makes you a person with a functioning brain and two eyes.
Should read, I only hope a corner…
Sorry. Late.
So, wait.
Dan Rather runs a piece that was found out to be fabricated and he gets fired/resigns.
Faux News and Breitbart runs a piece that was found out to be edited and it’s business as usual?
I don’t EVER want to hear conservatives complain that the media is liberal ever again. ><
