Tea Party Terrorism? Oakland Gunman Targeted Tides Foundation, ACLU

Time to ask questions.

After he was wounded and taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, Williams told investigators ‘his intention was to start a revolution by traveling to San Francisco and killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU,’ Oakland police Sgt. Michael Weisenberg wrote in a court affidavit.

The foundation has funded environmental and social justice projects since 1976 and also provides philanthropic advice, according to its website. The ACLU of Northern California is based in San Francisco.

  1. Repack Rider says:

The Tides Foundation is so obscure that only Glenn Beck’s listeners have heard of it. That should be a clue.

  2. timmy says:

And everybody knows that civil liberties are tools of the devil.

  3. Rheinhard says:

    Repack – that’s not true.

Bill O’Reilly’s audience has been ranted at about it as well.

  4. Robert says:

But what is the gunman’s position on the Law of the Sea Treaty?

  5. jurassicpork says:

Good catch, Oliver. With one possible exception (after the Unitarian Church shooting 2 years ago when right wing lit was found in Adkisson’s car), this is the closest thing we have to a smoking gun that ties these right wing lunatics and the cowardly right wing lunatics who dispatch them from their bully pulpits.

Speaking of right wing lunatics, today we find out if Mrs. JP’s layoff is permanent or temporary. In the meantime, we have zero chance of being able to pay the rent next month so whatever little anyone can do would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Teddy Partridge says:

Hearing he was headed to Tides, my partner and I were baffled. Sure, they manage lots of rich do-gooders’ money, doing due diligence for heirs who want to give to progressive, social justice causes but don’t want to be bothered to do their homework. But, we wondered, how did an ignorant ex-con ever hear about Tides?

Now we know. Thanks, Oliver. This deserves wider recognition.

  8. Phoenix Woman says:

Funny how this story is buried and the smear of Shirley Sherrod gets heavy media play.

  9. Gary from Bellingham says:

I DO hope this story gets wide play as it is important. ‘Connect the dots’ as Mr. Beck oft’ says.

Pass this story around good people.

  10. Scarecrow says:

What is the date for those Beck programs?

  11. Todd Dugdale says:

Sometime this week we will “learn” that the guy is “really” a Marxist who was just trying to make the Right look bad. He had to get shot to make it “look believable”.

It’s either that, or the cops are lying about what he said. They are in a union, after all.

I still hear wingnuts say that McVeigh was actually a leftist trying to discredit the militia movement.

  12. Dave von Ebers says:

Wow, Oliver, this post has been up for nearly 12 hours, and none of the usual suspects has come by to say you’re exaggerating, or that you’re slandering poor innocent “Tea Party Americans,” or any such hoohah.

  13. Marco says:

They’ve been exposed to light via the Bretibart Bullshit scandal. It burns and they look like shit in it.

Stay in the shadows and don’t return.

  14. Jaim says:

We’re getting close to our next Timothy McVeigh.

    Thanks, Republicans!

  15. isms says:

EVEN Hanninty was a little sheepish today. (Just a little, mind you.) Not so bright bart really side swiped them. I guess that’s the silver lining, just in case we are looking for one. Even better would be if bright bart got punked himself.

Why in the world would we do that? We know that Beck is not a “Tea Party Leader,” and we know that whenever Oliver uses a question mark after “Tea Party Terror”, he is using a tactic which would make “Tail Gunner Joe” proud.
There is no connection between this guy and the Tea Party – one word on a white board is evidence ?
    Are you kidding?

New flash – exaggerate, lie, pull stories out of your left wing recti – the Dems are getting their lying, “big nanny government” asses handed to them in November.

  17. Marco says:

Frank and his Miss Cleo predictions. No worries, Frank. If you guys lose, you’ll just shoot your way to getting your country back.

  18. Jaim says:

Big nanny government as in, telling adults who they can marry, illegal wire-tapping of private conversations, and unlimited power for the president’s executive authority?

Sounds like the Teabagger/GOP bloc to me. A Democratic politician has never tried to regulate my love-life.

Yes, Frank, it’s only a coincidence that one of the Oakland gunman’s targets was an obscure Bay Area foundation that happened to have been mentioned by Glen Beck as a source of progressive ‘evil’.

  20. Enlightened Liberal says:

Oliver, Oliver, Oliver. Don’t you know the proper term is teabagger terrorism?

  21. Frank DiSalle:
Want to pay for polling to see how many people even know who the Tides Foundation is? I would bet it’s like 3/4 of 1%. and 99.9% of that is Beck and BillO listeners/watchers. The others would be employees of said foundation. So tell me again, how did this RWNJ find out about the Tides foundation?

  22. donquijoterocket says:

Every time I hear one of the wingers like your frank go on about the electoral bloodbath coming this November I hear the pathetic, plaintive wailing of a frightened child trying to convince itself to whistle its way past a graveyard. While I fully expect the opposition to register their traditional off-year midterm gains, anybody that expects them to garner majorities and veto-proof majorities at that has initiated micturition into the wind.

  23. Ben says:

Why do Americans let nutters like Beck stay on the airwaves? He belongs on a street corner. Surely there are laws that he has broken? Incitement of violence? Have the secret service visited him or the faux news overlords? Protest his radio show, storm the studio, get seats to his tv show and go jerry springer on his ass. Please please please get this attention loving scumbag off the air.

  24. Nox says:

Glenn Beck’s primary purpose is to turn the masses against their own self-interest, by attacking groups and programs that help the people and instead get the masses to support things that benefit the rich. By definition, anyone who isn’t rich, but supports Beck… must necessarily be either ignorant or just plain unintelligent. Shame on Beck for taking advantage of those of us who don’t have either the time or capacity to, well, get all their facts right!
