Rooting For A Republican In Maryland Vs Frank Kratovil
Tweet
If it’s the vote that could decide the direction of the House, I would feel differently, but otherwise anti-healthcare Maryland “Democrat” Frank Kratovil should lose despite his cash advantge. If the holder of that seat is going to vote Republican, why not just have a Republican there instead of pussyfooting around?

Gotta agree. Ted Kennedy said that those who don’t favor raising the minimum wage aren’t fit to call themselves Democrats; health care is likewise a core Democratic issue.

So let me understand this correctly… Because the Democrat voted occasionally with the Republicans, you would rather have a Republican that would never vote with Democrats?
Kratovil voted in favor of Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay, SCHIP reauthorization, Cap and Trade, the Recovery Act, Matthew Sheppard Hate Crimes bill, and repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Andy Harris would have voted against all of those core Democratic bills. If you really think he’s better because he (Harris) is more “predictable,” then, I’m sorry, you’re an idiot and a bad Democrat.
Let’s leave the circular firing squads to the Republicans, OK?
Health care reform is a fundamental issue to being a Democrat. Kratovil voted against it. Why bother?
I basically agree. No Democrat votes with the majority of the party 100% of the time but to vote against a very basic tenet of being Democrat makes you about as useless as a Republican. I don’t want Republicans in charge of anything but pulling this stuff as a Dem is counter-productive.
What, OW, are you sugesting that the Democratic leadership can’t keep its fellow Democrats in line on important legislation? Surprise, surprise …
If Barack Obama can’t convince a Democrat to vote for a health care bill, why should we expect him to be able to convince Iran, NoKo, Palestine, et.al. to give up their weapons and/or tactics?
Hillary was right: Not Ready to Lead.
If Barack Obama can’t stop the oil spill, how can we expect him to stop Usama Bin Laden from raping your daughter?
Sorry OW, but I’ve got to agree with Charwin, though I wish he’d phrased things differently. Health care is important. No doubt and I wish Kratovil had voted differently. But his vote really didn’t matter in the end. But the Republicans are already gloating over the subpoena power they’ll get when they gain control of the House. Remember the “investigations” of the Clinton Administration? Imagine subpoenas about what was offered to Joe Sestak & when. Imagine AG Holder subpoenaed to try to defend his refusal to prosecute Blacks for voter intimidation. Imagine the subpoena power of the House behind the Fox “Scandal de Jour”.
It could be a lot worse.
Glad you weren’t hurt in the earthquake.
First, a vote against Kratovil is a vote against the Democratic majority in the House. Just ask Congressmen Hoyer and Cummings how important it is to keep Kratovil in the delegation.
Second, having a Democrat in the House strengthens the Democratic party throughout the District. A lot of counties on the Eastern Shore have GOP majoritie in voter registration. The Democrats need votes for Kratovil to help the lower ticket races. They can pick up some seats in the legislature, and keep control of the County governments. Without a Democrat in Congress, this effort becomes much harder.
Leave Ideological purity to the Repblicans. Political reality says that there has to be more than one kind of Democrat because there is more than one kind of District.
