Republican Joe Barton: “I Apologize” To BP

10:17 am EST June 17th, 2010 | Environment, Politics, Republicans | 24 Comments

joe bartonJoe Barton (R-TX) just apologized to the head of BP because he was ashamed of the supposed “shakedown” by the White House yesterday. You have got to be kidding me. The Republican party is now, once again, siding against America and with big business.

Apologize? Oh my god, shut up.

  1. Steve LaBonne says:

Hell no, he shouldn’t shut up! This is the line we WANT the GOP to be pushing with all it’s got. “Never interrupt the enemy when he is making a mistake.”- Napoleon

  2. durablend says:

Exactly what I was thinking…let them spew.

No doubt the peanut gallery will be here to reiterate what Barton said once they get their talking points down from Rush (checks watch)

  3. Marco says:

    Fucking classic.

  4. Ross says:

GET RID OF BARTON NOW……TEXAS IS THE TWILIGHT ZONE…..ALL THOSE PEOPLE OUT OF WORK…..ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE SUFFERING….

  5. michael says:

I’m convinced Barton is related to the guy Cheney shot.

  6. SpitDribblingMonkey says:

YIKES! This looks le the same guy who “interrupted” me while I was in a public men’s room taking a giant duce and wanted to “Craig” me for $250 an hour’s time… Whatever that means?!

  7. zach says:

Thinking anyone should apologize to BP makes perfect sense, coming from the party that made an old man apologize for getting in the way of Dick Cheney’s shotgun.

  8. Fred says:

One correction is needed though. I believe it should be Joe Barton (R-BigOil)

  9. Quaker in a Basement says:

Please tell me this isn’t the same bunch that has been crying about “Obama’s World Apology Tour” for the last year.

  10. Indeed says:

“Mr. Chairman, I would like to verify the witness’s statement. For years now, a growing number of my constituents have been of Italian Big Oil descent, and I have come to know them well. They have honored me with their support and with their friendship. Indeed, I can proudly say some of my very best friends are Italian Big Oil Americans. “

“These hearings on the Mafia Big Oil are in no way whatsoever a slur upon the great Italian Big Oil people. Because I can state from my own knowledge and experience that Italian Big Oil Americans are among the most loyal, most law-abiding, patriotic, hard working American citizens in this land.

“And it would be a shame, Mr. Chairman, if we allowed a few rotten apples to bring a bad name to the whole barrel. Because from the time of the great Christopher Columbus Daniel Plainview up through the time of Enrico Fermi Dick “Dick” Cheney right up to the present day — Italian Big Oil Americans have been pioneers in building and defending our great nation. They are the salt of the earth and one of the backbones of this country.”
    - Senator Pat Geary Congressman Joe Barton

  12. Burn says:

They are so steeped in reflexively opposing anything that Obama is for, so they automatically take up the ‘other’ side, no matter the cause, no matter the issue. How politically tone deaf can you be?

I love it. The GOP hearts BP. There’s your ad campaign.

  13. Marco says:

Gotta love it. I hope President Obama takes a strong stance pro adorable puppies soon just to see the sudden GOP hatred for cute canines.

  14. timmy says:

An apt description of today’s wingnuts. They’re like a mindlessly self-destructive darkseeker zombie army with only one goal in mind: Get Obama!

  15. MrBenchley says:

It’s Asskisser Joe Barton and the Party of Personal Responsibility. As in, “I personally apologize that the small people want to hold you responsible for the damage and loss of life you cause.”

  16. Jason Richards says:

This is a typical Republican asshole response to a disaster as long as they keep getting their support from big business and being from Texas makes him much more of an idiot like the last guy in the White House.
President Barack Obama is turning out to be one of the best Presidents this country has seen in a long time if not forever.

  17. Sean D. Martin says:

Didn’t Romney already take care of that?

  18. timmy says:

Because he actually takes personal responsibility. And then the wingnuts attack him for that. They represent nothing but blind tribalism.

  19. durablend says:

Barton is now claiming his remarks were “misconstrued” (no doubt by the “leftist media”)
