Angela McGlowanNaturally.

State Sen. Alan Nunnelee, a favorite among the Republican establishment, won Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District Republican primary Tuesday, results show.

With 95 percent of precincts counted, Nunnelee had 51 percent of the vote to 33 percent for former Eupora mayor Henry Ross and 16 percent for Fox News commentator Angela McGlowan, WLBT-TV, Jackson, reported.

She didn’t even come in second.

  1. Damon says:

Apparently unwilling to learn the lessons of Blackwell and Steele, she’s now learned that kissing their asses doesn’t mean they’ll vote for you.

  2. durablend says:

    “Oliver is a racist!!!!!!” -cons

  3. ARNEADER says:

I’m from MS and Angela really thought she had a chance with the Republicans from a RED STATE. These racist whites in MS like to keep it white. Angela FORGOT where she came from…literally! She’s been in DC too long, I think she’s been BAMBOOZLED! They keep it white in MS Angela, this won’t look good for you in the history books.

  4. Pryme says:

Ah, Oliver, you’re reading it wrong. They literally meant “Black Republican,” singular. They’re not going to have more than one; look at what a handfull Michael Steele has been!

  5. jr says:

Angela complained a RINO won. Did it ever occur to her she moved too far right?

  6. MrBenchley says:

She should have joined Randy Paul and Chicken Lady Lowden in the crusade to bring back Jim Crow….that looks like it’s going to be THE Republican position for 2010….

  7. Repack Rider says:

I get a kick out of the nutwingers who say that endorsement by OBAMA is poison at the polls. A Palin endorsement is the kiss of death.

  8. Dennis says:

    “Goes Down in Flames”, Oliver?

Nice choice of words to describe the performance of only the first Black female to run in that particular district ever in Mississippi.

Mississippi House candidate Angela McGlowan-R is one of 32 African American candidates running this cycle – the most since Reconstruction, according to Essence.com.

McGlowan said the recent surge of interest among black candidates could be traced directly to President Obama.

“Barack Obama being elected President has paved the way for more Black people to say, ‘Hey, we can do it,’” McGlowan recently told the magazine. “It takes hope to be able to run, and even though he may have given hope to people on the right side of the aisle, we’re all Black people in this. Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, the first Black President has made a difference in our lives.”

She tried, Oliver. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with her logic above, either.

The only wrong is you mocking her trying.

  9. Tyro says:

Another black Republican, Arthur Davis, lost his primary badly, as well. Of course, he was running in a Democratic primary, which probably explains why he was defeated by such a wide margin.

  10. Tyro says:

    “Goes Down in Flames”, Oliver?

Yes, that is generally how one describes an election where someone loses by 35 points.

  11. Quaker in a Basement says:

The only wrong is you mocking her trying.

How was it Republicans used to put it…oh, right! The “soft bigotry of low expectations.” Wasn’t that it?

  12. Marco says:

She is insufferable. Hard to believe it was only a loss by 35 points.

  13. Dennis says:

Funny, Repack, she campaigned heavily for Susanna Martinez in New Mexico.

Check the score on that one.

And she came in late to root for McGlowan. Figuring she was so far behind she should’ve just done like Obama did with Specter in the late stages of the race and pretended she didn’t even know her, right?

It’s funny, it’s like when you post you pretend you’re giving the unvarnished truth. I just wonder if you believe it yourself.

And wait, I thought you guys were all so sure Palin was a closeted racist. And that mainly old southern white racists supported her.

Hard to follow your logic here. Mainly because it never seems to hold up to even the first line of scrutiny.

  14. Dennis says:

Hey Repack, do you even know at what stage of the game Palin decided to endorse McGlowan?

I’m guessing from your post that you probably don’t.

    Dolt.

  15. MrBenchley says:

    Poor Dennis…his token didn’t fool anyone….

  16. Dennis says:

I didn’t just say ‘someone’, Tyro.

  17. Dennis says:

MrB, it’s obvious that as a newbie here you’re trying desperately to make some sort of splash, not just with the conservatives but also with those here not as hardcore loonie left as you. Still, even for you a shitty thing to say. I didn’t even know she was running and I don’t care all that much to listen to her when she’s on the dominant news show in all of cable television; I just admire her for trying against long odds.

If Obama inspired her and other African-Americans to run for higher office on both sides of the aisle, then that’s a good thing for Obama. In general, I don’t see how anyone could derive satisfaction mocking someone like that for trying.

  18. fafaroo says:

MrB, it’s obvious that as a newbie here you’re trying desperately to make some sort of splash…

Posting on this blog is all you have, isn’t it Dennis? You can admit that. We’re here for you.

  19. Dennis says:

Funny, you’ve never hesitated to chide me in the past for the things I have. Oh, now I get it, I guess you’re trying a new approach now, is that it?

  20. fafaroo says:

Yes, Dennis, when I wrote “posting on this blog is all you have” I meant all the physical items you own. Sheesh.

  21. Marco says:

This thread is Dennis at his most hilariously embarrassing self. He even a Palin reference. Lovin’ it.

  22. MrBenchley says:

Dennis, what’s obvious is what a pathetic lying moron you are.

    Now pout louder.

  23. MrBenchley says:

Marco, I don’t know which is funnier–conservatives when they let loose their inner Klansman, or conservatives when they try and fail to hide it.

  24. Dennis says:

What’s funnier is that you think that no matter what, you’ve always got both of those cards to play, MrBenchley. A conservative blogger puts that unfortunate phrase in his headline about an African-American politician, and you know who here would be the first one out with it calling it a dog-whistle and a right-wing tea partier call for action.

  25. Dennis says:

Like fafaroo, you’re all over the place, Benchwarmer. First you say I’m pouting, then you say it’s a attempt and a fail to hide my inner klansmen.

You’re like the kids here who have their pat nutroots phrases on a list taped to the side of their monitors for easy reference.

You’re not even trying. It’s like you’re a bot or something.

  26. Prodigal says:

And that somehow validates your concern trolling over Oliver describing a 35-point loss as “going down in flames” how, exactly?

  27. Marco says:

    See, it gets funnier.

  28. Quaker in a Basement says:

A conservative blogger puts that unfortunate phrase in his headline about an African-American politician, and you know who here would be the first one out with it calling it a dog-whistle and a right-wing tea partier call for action.

Wait. What? What “unfortunate phrase”? Black Republican? Palin-endorsed? Fox yakker? Down in flames?

What the heck are you yammering about now?

  29. I'm a Hick says:

You’re like the kids here who have their pat nutroots phrases…

    Like ‘nutroots?’

  30. Repack Rider says:

I thought you guys were all so sure Palin was a closeted racist.

I thought you guys threw around a lot of straw men. Then you go and prove it.

You addressed the post to me, so maybe you can show me where I claimed she was a closet racist.

Because you are all about facts and stuff.

  31. fafaroo says:

It’s pretty stunning, the lack of self-awareness, isn’t it?

  32. Duros62 says:

Dennis, what’s obvious is what a pathetic lying moron you are.

“As a newbie here”, you seem to pick up on things pretty fast.

  33. Dennis says:

Either you or him, please show me one lie.

Not really serious about you, Duros. Prior experience tells me you won’t come back with anything. Really just checking to see if Mr. Benchley is real.

  34. Dennis says:

    Yawn.

Vacation made you lazy, fafaroo. The first couple days back are always tough, aren’t they?

  35. Dennis says:

What??? What’s the acceptable term for left-wing loon bloggers who pretend to be objective thinkers, Hick? Let me know and I’ll try to use so as not to offend.

  36. fafaroo says:

Like I said, it’s pretty stunning.

  37. Dennis says:

Fafaroo, four posts here already and you haven’t even commented on the thread topic. You haven’t even commented on anything beside me.

Of course you don’t think you have your own self-awareness issues and that you’re only projecting; and Quaker will call me a dick again if I bring up your overwhelming tendency to obsess over the trivial here, but dude….seriously….snap out of it.

  38. MrBenchley says:

    I stand corrected, Marco.

  39. MrBenchley says:

Dennis being a pathetic lying moron is something that jumps right out to the casual visitor.

  40. MrBenchley says:

    Sob louder, dennis.

  41. Dennis says:

Uhh, again, could you name one lie, MrB. Just one, so I’ll at least have an idea of what you’re babbling about?

Poor Duros right now is already going back through the archives. Ask fafaroo how to use the search engine above if you need help.

    Ill wait here, Bot-boy.

  42. fafaroo says:

“…your overwhelming tendency to obsess over the trivial here …”

Says the guy who wrote this:

    “Goes Down in Flames”, Oliver?

Nice choice of words to describe the performance of only the first Black female to run in that particular district ever in Mississippi.

She tried, Oliver. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with her logic above, either.

The only wrong is you mocking her trying.

Can you really explain, at all, why the phrase “going down in flames” is so offensive to you in this context? I’d love to hear it.

And please, for the love of god, you don’t really expect us to believe you have a problem with “mocking” politicians and public figures do you? You can’t possibly be serious.

    And then there’s this:

A conservative blogger puts that unfortunate phrase in his headline about an African-American politician, and you know who here would be the first one out with it calling it a dog-whistle and a right-wing tea partier call for action.

First of all, nice hypothetical, as usual.

Second, are you saying that you have a problem with this kind of tactic? Because you don’t seem to have a problem using it yourself. Case in point:

    “Goes Down in Flames”, Oliver?

Nice choice of words to describe the performance of only the first Black female to run in that particular district ever in Mississippi.

So is it the hypocrisy you have a problem with? Is that it? Because if it is, you can’t possible have actually meant what you wrote in the first comment, otherwise, you would be guilty of using a tactic you claim to abhor, and yet, you go on from there to repeat the attack and defend it.

So what is it, exactly, that you have a problem with? Can you possibly explain it in a way that makes sense?

  43. Dennis says:

Blacks were lynched and burned at the stake in the south, fafaroo. The average person uses that phrase and I’d think nothing of it. If someone accused him of making a dog whistle because he said it to mock a black politician, I’d probably roll my eyes and say “C’mon”. But after seeing the things you guys yelp and scream about here that you claim are racist dog whistles and subtle calls for violence, especially your master the blogger here, seems a bit hypocritical to use that phrase and think nothing of it. Not much different than saying ‘Palin-Endorsed Fox Yakker Angela McGlowan Gets Lynched in Mississippi’.

Five posts now from you and all directed toward me. That’s not obsessive at all.

  44. Parthenon says:

Not much different than saying ‘Palin-Endorsed Fox Yakker Angela McGlowan Gets Lynched in Mississippi’.

    Zuh?

You… you do know that ‘goes down in flames’ is an airplane metaphor, right?

  45. Parthenon says:

But after seeing the things you guys yelp and scream about here that you claim are racist dog whistles and subtle calls for violence, especially your master the blogger here,

There’s a ‘racism’ button in the tag cloud up there if you’d care to find one example of OW’s that is as lame as focusing on ‘goes down in flames.’

  46. I'm a Hick says:

I don’t know. What’s the acceptable term for someone who does in their very post something he’s criticizing others for – using a pet phrase to describe people who use pet phrases?

A black man using the phrase ‘down in flames’ to describe another black’s electoral loss – not a dog whistle. A presidential candidate kicking off their campaign in Philadelphia, MS while talking about his respect for state’s rights – big ol’ honkin’ dog whistle.

  47. fafaroo says:

Not much different than saying ‘Palin-Endorsed Fox Yakker Angela McGlowan Gets Lynched in Mississippi’.

Dennis, this blog has driven you completely nuts.

You really need to step away for awhile.

  48. MrBenchley says:

Again, dennis, sob louder. Be sure to whine that this token’s failure is no different than a lynching, just so we can see how deeply dishonest you are.

  49. Dennis says:

Please put up or shut up, MrBenchly.

It was a simple request for just one example of the claim you keep repeating. Might help your standing here as a newbie, seeing as how you’ve already pissed off a few of the liberals here aren’t quite as freakish as you are.

Duros has already turned tail and that’s understandable, but you, you come in here with such bravado, I thought you’d be all over that one.

You’re not the typical bullshitter, are you?

  50. Dennis says:

Dennis, this blog has driven you completely nuts.

You really need to step away for awhile.

See, now there you go again, fafaroo. The reality is, you just did step away. And now wonder of wonders who do you come right back to. Your sixth post now and every one obsessing with me, and some imaginary character issue about me, too. Even a week’s vacation and you can’t stop and realize how that might be another problem brewing inside you. I’m not the problem- there are millions of people in this country like me with far more conservative views, far less intelligent, and ideals you’d find far more offensive. No, the problem is with you and the way you’ve singled me out to obsess over.

You need another intervention, fafaroo. I don’t fault you for needing the first one; I admire it that you overcame it in fact, but fixating on me can’t be a good substitute.

Now please, just make a random post about nothing in particular not addressing me. See if you can do it.

Then shoot for going one day here without addressing me. Then after that its just one day at a time.

  51. MrBenchley says:

Been there, done that, dennis. And the only bullshitter around is you.

  52. merl says:

so did she lose because she’s black or because she got the kiss of death Palin endorsement?
    Probably both.

  53. fafaroo says:

“…and some imaginary character issue about me …”

Again, says the guy who just wrote: “Not much different than saying ‘Palin-Endorsed Fox Yakker Angela McGlowan Gets Lynched in Mississippi’.”

And, Dennis, you’re commenting on Oliver’s post and I am telling you that your comment makes no effing sense at all, whatsoever. None of your comments in this thread either make any effing sense whatsoever, or else they’re completely, hysterically obtuse, as in criticizing someone for using “pat phrases” in the very instant you use the phrase “nutroots.”

    It boggles the mind.

  54. Dennis says:

merl, try not to be as stupid as Repack Rider. He uses capital letters so he’s already starting out with a one lap lead on you, but you can catch up.

Palin endorsed her yesterday. Do you honestly feel like this woman might’ve had the lead, but lost it and another 35 points, in one day (the say of the election) just because Sarah Palin wrote on her Facebook page yesterday that she was pulling for her?

Try to get your head out of your ass.

  55. fafaroo says:

    Case in point:

I’m not the problem- there are millions of people in this country like me with far more conservative views, far less intelligent, and ideals you’d find far more offensive.

So you’re not the problem because you’re not as conservative, stupid and offensive as “millions” of other Americans who are nevertheless, “just like” you?

WTF does this even mean? If it means anything at all, you’ve just called millions of your fellow conservatives offensive idiots. In which case, I can only assume you’re talking about Frank, SaveFarris et al.

Even if this isn’t what you meant, of course, I would have just as much of a problem with people who are more conservative, more stupid and more offensive than you. But that doesn’t mean that you, yourself, are not conservative, stupid and offensive enough to be a target of ridicule and scorn.

You make no effing sense whatsoever.

  56. Dennis says:

You’re not getting off to a good start. Sometimes I think my attempts to help you might only be making it worse.

I can’t do it for you, fafaroo. You have to decide you want to get better.

  57. Dennis says:

    No, you haven’t, MrBullshitter.

    You’re dithering.

  58. merl says:

    shut up, asshole.

  59. Dennis says:

But that doesn’t mean that you, yourself, are not conservative, stupid and offensive enough to be a target of ridicule and scorn.

I didn’t say that and I didn’t say that about Frank or Farris or anyone in particular. Both those guys are much smarter than you and I, for that matter. But you don’t obsess over either one of them near as much as you do me, not even combined. Not even all the conservatives here combined, in fact. I’m saying that no matter how offensive, stupid, or whatever it is that intrigues you about me to the point of obsession, there are millions of people out there like me that you could find fault with in whatever category it is that irks you.

Now, if there were say, five or six other people in your life that you obsess over just as much or more than you do me, then that’s an even bigger problem. But if you ignore all other people in your life that are like me, which you’ve admitted there are many, yet you still come back here and focus only on me, well, then that’s an serious problem too.

Bottom line, either way, you’ve got a problem, dude.

Now sorry, but I’ve got to get a water sample in to the pool store before it closes. Unless you know about chlorine, pH and alkalinity, you’re of no use to me right now, and I’ve probably already given you more useful information than you’re able to digest at one sitting, anyway.

Work on some those steps I’ve outlined for you. It will get better.

  60. fafaroo says:

You write a response like that and you have to ask me why I’m constantly beating up on you?

Dennis, you’re like a pinata of hilarity.

Sometimes it takes a few whacks, but you never, ever fail to give up the comedy gold.

  61. liberalrob says:

I bet she did pretty well with Mississippi’s black Republican voters, though. Especially black Republican women.

  62. Marco says:

She also was a speaker at the Tea Bag Convention with your hero, Citizen Sarah.

    Just sayin’.

  63. Lars Olsson says:

Oh, puh-leeze, Dennis. Oliver isn’t “mocking her trying.” I usually don’t like to speak for others, but when their intent is SO clear – and someone’s trying SO hard to distort it anyway – sometimes, I can’t help myself. What Oliver was doing was a) hoping a FOX-based wingnut wouldn’t even come close to this seat, b) exulting in the fact that one didn’t, and c) pointing out that not even the supposedly “ascendant” teabaggers and McGlowan’s wingnutty pedigree were enough to overcome the legendary racism of southern conservatives. Not even close, in fact: 16% is also-ran territory. Even first-time candidates usually do better than that (provided they’re decently-funded and aren’t complete whack-jobs). Heck, in her state, even being a whack-job isn’t a barrier to electoral success. McGlowan had name (or at least face) recognition to all those FAUX-loving conservatarians in Mississippi, she was decently-funded, and her ‘bagger pedigree was unquestioned: wingnutty enough for even the furthest of the fringe. Yet she only managed to pull down 16%. Why? Well, the list of other reasons one could look at besides racism grows rather thin.

  64. Lars Olsson says:

    Yep…all twenty-six of them. ;-)

  65. fafaroo says:

Well, the list of other reasons one could look at besides racism grows rather thin.

Which is another reason why Dennis’ comment:

Not much different than saying ‘Palin-Endorsed Fox Yakker Angela McGlowan Gets Lynched in Mississippi’.

Makes absolutely no frickin’ sense whatsoever.

It’s not exactly like Oliver has ever felt compelled to resort to “dog whistles” when calling the South or southerners racists if that’s what he means to say.

  66. Quaker in a Basement says:

The average person uses that phrase and I’d think nothing of it. If someone accused him of making a dog whistle because he said it to mock a black politician, I’d probably roll my eyes and say “C’mon”.

But instead, you’re play-acting at racial sensitivity. Why is that?

  67. Quaker in a Basement says:

Well, let’s start with your pretending to think “went down in flames” was a racially insensitive comment. That wasn’t true, was it?

  68. Mark Rosenthal says:

I believe that now makes 3 black GOP candidates of about 19 who have not made it. Hmmmmm…………….

  69. agentX says:

16 percent of the vote, eh? That’s 1500% better than I thought she would do. I guess this hopey-changey thing ain’t so bad after all. Right, sister Sarah Palin?

She thought she could win a Rethug primary in MS? That’s enough stupid to fill the Gulf of Mexico right there. She should’ve went Liberturd or UnConstitution party.

  70. Why do you think Angela McGlowan didn’t catch on with voters in Mississippi’s 1st Congressional district?
