Essence Of Wingnut Logic

bushWingnuts Now:

This is Obama’s Katrina!
This is Obama’s 9/11!

Wingnuts For The Last 8 Years:

Bush did a great job on Katrina.
Bush did nothing wrong on 9/11.

Because, you see, if new things are disasters for Obama they had to have been the same for Bush when he did it the first time around. You know, when you guys pretended he was the bestest?

    Standards, Oliver. Standards.

    You need more than two.

    They make their own reality.

  4. longde says:

I think the 9/11 comparison to the oil spill is apt. In both situations, the administrations didn’t act urgently enough on problems they knew were festering, only to have an unexpected disaster sharpen their focus. Bush completely wasted the lessons and opportunities (e.g., multilateral support) of 9/11; it remains to be seen if Obama will make prudent decisions going forward.

The Katrina comparison is ridiculous, but at the time, only people on the conservative fringe pretended Bush did a good job. Most americans threw up their hands at that point, on giving Bush the benefit of the doubt.

  5. Prodigal says:

After the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole, Clinton had his people draw up plans to kill bin Laden and destroy Al Qaeda. Bush, who’d dismissed everything Clinton and Gore had said about the threat bin Laden posed on the grounds that Clinton and Gore were “obsessed with terrorism”, did nothing until after 9/11.

Meanwhile, during his term, Bush gutted the regulatory strength of the government inspectors who were responsible for making sure the oil companies were maintaining their equipment.

Yeah, your paallel sure does hold up.

At least Obama is showing up!

  7. Duros62 says:

True, I don’t seem to remember headlines about coke-fueled parties involving lobbyists and regulators during the Clinton years, do you?

Because, you see, if new things were disasters for Bush they had to have been the same for Clinton when he did it the first time around. You know, when you guys pretended, and still pretend (unless he’s being compared to Obama) he was the bestest?

You slay me, Oliver. You really do.

  9. Enlightened Liberal says:

Really? Because I remember in 2002 how OBL was trapped in Tora Bora but the US decided to let the Northern Alliance handle it and they blew it. Who was president in 2002?

  10. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Nutroots in 2005:

“Katrina will be Bush’s Monica Lewinsky!”

Oh, please do show me where you dug up this fantasy.

The Essence of Moonbat logic: Democratics think Conservatives have been praising Bush’s Katrina response since 2002.

  12. rip says:

Katrina gave Bush a blow job?

  13. rip says:

You’re not even trying to make sense anymore, are you?

  14. Dennis says:

“This is inarguably a failure of leadership from the top of the federal government. Remember when Bill Clinton went out with Monica Lewinsky. That was inarguably a failure of judgment at the top. Democrats had to come out and risk losing credibility if they did not condemn Bill Clinton for his behavior. I believe Republicans are in the same position right now. And I will say this: Hurricane Katrina is George Bush’s Monica Lewinsky. The only difference is that tens of thousands of people weren’t stranded in Monica Lewinsky’s vagina.” –Jon Stewart

  15. Oliver says:

You understand nothing. Your arguments make no sense. I would say they’re childlike, but even kids know some form of logic. Seriously. The point you are trying to make does not exist on the third planet from the sun.

  16. The Dark Avenger says:

Dennis likes Jon Stewart so much, let’s Release the Kagan.

“Just like the difference between me and Michael Jordan is… athletic ability.”

  17. Dennis says:

Oliver, this wasn’t even your idea for a post, it was a post by Quaker in another thread about what he thought was ridiculousness on the part of Republicans. Yeah, Republicans thought Bush got a bum rap for Katrina for the most part, but they also for the most part acknowledged his errors. And as Peggy Noonan outlined in her column, it came to symbolize at the time all the frustrations people had with Bush then. The media won that battle lambasting Bush, but it’s no more ridiculous to have defended Bush in 2005 from an unfair rap the way the media went crazy with their portrayal of him and to now call the BP disaster potentially his Katrina than it was for you guys to defend Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky scandal and then later to to agree that Katrina would be Bush’s Lewinsky. It’s the exact same thing; you just can’t see past your own biases to understand that the same games are played on both sides.

  18. tim says:

Jon Stewart is a comedian. It was a fucking joke.

  19. Prodigal says:

And it’s almost as big a joke as Dennis’ complaints about people being unable to see past their biases.

  20. In Other Words... says:

This has got to be the funniest damn thing I have ever read on this blog.

  21. Zip:

Who had bin Ladin in their crosshairs and said stand down?

No one. The reason Clinton didn’t attempt the kill was that the intel was single-sourced. A single source saying “Bin Ladin is here!” is not having someone in crosshairs. Crosshairs are a reference to *aiming*.

Now, I know, if you follow Republicans, you’re used to big actions that “demonstrate leadership”, rather than the lower key, quieter things that are involved in leading – but you should really avoid making completely false statements.

  22. Jen7 says:

ROFL. That’s your example of the ‘nutroots in 2005′?? ONE person….and he’s a comedian. Dear God, you are a complete idiot.

  23. timmy says:

Maybe Dennis is Sarah Palin’s Rodney Dangerfield?

  24. Dr. Psycho says:

I thought the comedian’s point was that Bush’s failures in dealing with Katrina (and so much else) were NOT equivalent to the trumped-up Lewinsky impeachment scandal.

I am reminded of the protest signs that said, “Will someone please give Bush a blowjob so we can impeach him?” The point being that it was contrasting the trivial private offenses of Bill Clinton with the large and destructive acts of malfeasance, misfeasance and nonfeasance between 2001 and 2009 that somehow didn’t rise to the level of being impeachable acts.

It’s as though Republicans think one scandal is just as good as another, that “Monicagate” was no more or less impeachable than “Operation Iraq Liberation”.

But that can’t really be so, can it?

    Oh, maybe it can….

  25. MrBenchley says:

Jeeze, Dennis, Jon Stewart is a COMEDIAN. He is telling a JOKE.

It’s interesting to know that you’re so dense things like that have to be EXPLAINED to you.

  26. MrBenchley says:

In fact, Dennis, Republicans thought Katrina was the funniest thing EVAH (the scumbags at NRO’s the Corner h-yuked it up for two days).

Katrina was the Republican Southern Strategy in its full flower: Reagan just hated black people; Bush killed them and let their bodies rot in the streets.

  27. Dennis says:

Not only are you a disgusting human being, as other liberals here have told you, but you’re also incredibly naive. Jon Stewart is a liberal icon. A hero, if you will. It’s where a tremendous amount of lemming liberals, especially the younger ones like the main populace here on this blog, go for much of their news. But when it’s convenient in an argument, just like Stewart does, you say “But, but , but, he’s just a comedian.”

    It’s a bullshit answer.

And to Jen 7, yeah, Stewart said it, but a lot of liberals and nutroots bloggers repeated it….ad nauseum.

  28. MrBenchley says:

Pout louder, dennis. Jon is a COMEDIAN. He tells JOKES. I can’t help it that you’re a bitter moron with a bellyful of hate.

  29. Quaker in a Basement says:

Stewart said it, but a lot of liberals and nutroots bloggers repeated it….ad nauseum.

I saw a few who repeated Jon Stewart’s joke. Is that what you’re referring to?

  30. fafaroo says:

“And I will say this: Hurricane Katrina is George Bush’s Monica Lewinsky. The only difference is that tens of thousands of people weren’t stranded in Monica Lewinsky’s vagina.” –Jon Stewart

ROFLMAO. Dennis, the second sentence really tells you how seriously you should take the first. Which is to say, that your fantastic example of liberal hypocrisy is the set up for a punchline about people being stranded in a vagina.

I can’t believe you guys finally broke Dennis’ brain and I was on vacation when it happened.

In which of the last week’s threads can you hear the “snap”?

  31. From the Left’s point of view, it was not only Bush’s fault that the Feds mishandled Katrina, he was blamed for the failures of the Mayor and the Governor. So, it is that “Bush’s Katrina” that is being compared to “Obama’s BP”, because, let’s face it, he hasn’t done a damned thing!
He hasn’t even authorized the issuance of detergent to wash the ducks.
And THAT’S why BP is Obama’s Katrina.
    All clear, now?

  32. Zython says:

    This contradicts your little theory.

  33. You might want to read that litany of excuses. It pretty much says why nothing has been done yet. Don’t you think there were reasons why certain things didn’t get done during Katrina? Did anyone care ?
Of course, the press is doing everything they can to give The Won a free ride, but even they are building up to a WTF?
And, of course, we on the right already don’t care what his excuses are.

  34. Prodigal says:

The only thing that people like you on the Right care about is making excuses for why nothing could ever possibly be Bush’s fault.

  35. MrBenchley says:

From the standpoint of actual fact, Frank, the botched response to Katrina Was George the Drunk’s fault, and he did NOTHING whatsover but yuk it up elsewhere while people died.

And the BP oil spill isn’t Obama’s Katrina but George’s Katrina 2, the revenge of moronic deregulation.

“Hours before adjourning for the year, the U.S. Congress on Saturday sent President George W. Bush legislation that would open 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas drilling and redistribute billions of dollars in royalties to four Gulf states.

The drilling measure was wrapped into a broad tax and trade package that the U.S. Senate approved by a 79-9 vote, hours after the House of Representatives approved it.

Rep. Bobby Jindal, a Louisiana Republican and one of the drilling measure’s main supporters, said Bush will sign the bill into law.”

  36. Zython says:

Don’t you think there were reasons why certain things didn’t get done during Katrina?

That would be because Bush thought that an Arabian horse race announcer would be the ideal fit as the head of FEMA.

You might want to read that litany of excuses.

So a timeline of things that actually happened = excuses? Gotcha.
