Bobby Jindal Rediscovers Federal Government With Oil Spill, Asks For Help

10:50 pm EST April 29th, 2010 | Environment | 20 Comments

Wasn’t this the same guy who a few months ago was decrying federal money spent on volcano monitoring? The same guy lambasting big government, and one of the GOP poster boys for “limited government”.

Yeah. That guy.

Gov. Bobby Jindal asked federal authorities tonight to grant funding for Louisiana National Guard members joining the multi-agency response to the offshore oil spill.

In letters sent late today to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Jindal requested support for up to 6,000 soldiers and airmen for at least 90 days under Title 32 of the U.S. Code, which would allow the Guardsmen to receive military retirement points, health insurance and disability protection.

A the end of the day, Jindal will get the help he needs because the current President isn’t a moron and our federal government is no longer packed to the gills by luddite ideologues paid for by big business.

But the response to Jindal should just be a rousing chorus of “drill, baby, drill”.

Of course, you break out one of your many idiotic caricatures of conservatives. This one being the canard that conservatives want to eliminate ever facet of the federal government so there’s only a handful of employees and no agencies.

It’s bogus and Jindal saying that the federal government has grown far too large and does way too much and can be trimmed substantially, is not inconsistent with requesting federal assistance in the face of something like this. Good grief. Stop stooping to levels of stupidity that help to attract the brain dead simps that have their nose up your ass for crying out loud.

“Jesus will protect us from oil spills”-Exorcist Jindal

  3. mrak says:

What’s the point of having a federal government, if it isn’t to clean up oil companies’ messes?

  4. Duros62 says:

So Grover Norquist is a caricature, Jay?

  5. timmy says:

Jay’s right, with his angry little self-important little tirade. Our biggest single government expense category is the military. But we conservatives need our military, specially the nukular-military. Second, every good conservative knows how much of the base would turn on us if certain entitlement programs were rescinded. Y’all know what they all are. (Frank DiSalle type stuff – shhh) Third, we need those ports and borders sealed up. Fourth, we need prohibition of abortion and all that that implies. Fifth, we need to keep spying on the world to keep terrorists out of America. You yahoos think ECHELON’s cheap? Sixth, the deficit must be brought under control, especially during economic hard times. We can buy on credit when things are a-hummin again. Seventh, the infrastructure is a-crumblin. (But 4WDs, self-reliance and automatic weapons might compensate.) Eighth, you think Commander Codpiece displays are cheap? Airforce One? Camp David? Federal prisons? Ninth, what the frickin hell’s my point here anyways? …oh, yeah, the income tax must be abolished! Now! Onward Christian Teabaggers!!

    Hey! I’m not a simp!

Indeed, it’s perfectly consistent: cut the stuff that helps those people, keep/increase the stuff for my people.

Jay noted: “This one being the canard that conservatives want to eliminate ever facet of the federal government so there’s only a handful of employees and no agencies.”

I remember a prominent anti-tax advocate saying something about shrinking government so small that he could drown it in a bathtub, but please keep denying that no one ever advocates for something like this.

  9. This one being the canard that conservatives want to eliminate ever facet of the federal government so there’s only a handful of employees and no agencies.

“My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.” – Grover Norquist

Cue Jay explaining to me that Norquist is a marginal figure on the right, and that his weekly meetings aren’t attended by major figures on the right, etc.

“Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem.” – Ronald Reagan, a marginal conservative figure.

“Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.” – Bobby Jindal

    Head in the sand. Again.

  10. durablend says:

Why the hell isn’t Jindal taking some personal responsibility instead of crying to the govermint for help? Hey Bobby…grab a mop and a bucket and GET TO WORK!

  11. Donna says:

Also want to remind everyone that Jindal was the guy that made fun of “Volcano Monitoring”. Called it a waste of time and money. I think the people of Europe would tend to disagree.

  12. Progressive says:

Jindal, like most republican politicians, are all talk and no action. Conservatives are completely useless, none of them want to work, just rob the US Treasury of Democratic Tax dollars.

  13. TRUTH0HURTS says:

Republicans and their followers have got to be THE DUMBEST people on the planet. So let me get this straight . . . Little Bobby Jindal railed against the Federal Stimulus package, denying millions of people healthcare because he was “against the Federal Government” helping people but NOW THAT HIS STATE is in trouble at the hands of the same PRIVATE SECTOR OIL INDUSTRY that he and his Republican cronies are always getting money from for political favors, he wants “FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE”? This situation couldn’t be more hilarious if it was a comedy routine. As I said before, Republicans and their followers (along with Ben Nelson and other Republicrats) have got to be THE DUMBEST people on the planet. I don’t think you people realize the full extent of how stupid you look to the entire world right now. LOL!!!

  14. Lemme see if I can explain this to the liberal lemmings.

The government has been involved in the disaster business, since at least 1927, to the best of my knowledge …
    Before Social Security
    Before SSD
    Before SSI
    Before Food Stamps
    Before WIC
Before the Departments of Energy and Education
Before the trillion dollar stimulus package
Before the 9 trillion dollar Obamacare program

So, seeking disaster relief is not an EXPANSION OF GOVERNMENT, says this Right – to – Lifer to the man who called Republicans the dumbest people on the planet !!

If they are, there is at least one liberal I can think of who belongs with them – OK, maybe more than one .

  15. Dale says:

The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 places the responsibility for oil spills under federal jurisdiction.

In other words, it’s the Fed’s job to take charge, not wait 8 days before taking control of the spill.

  16. caroline says:

You people have it all wrong….This is a disater and the feds are suppose to come in when this happens. They are supposed to help anywhere in the US when something like ths happens. They are suppose to keep the nation safe and the people safe. That’s one of the main rolls of the federal government.

The federal government is to keep us safe and keep us FREE! That’s it’s roll… NOT to tell us what to do about our own healthcare and other things Obama has snuck his nose into.

Obama has taken 8 days to dos omething about this. Yet when Bush took only a couple of minutes to leave that classroom, the whiny left crucified him.
Where is your complaining now? And where are all the environmentalists that always give the ocnservatives a hard time? They are no where to be found.

  17. They were on the scene from day one.

  18. cherylchay says:

Excuse me,the oil company BP lied about the size of this leak and the explosion and said they had it all under control until 8 days later. Now you blaming Obama again like you do every dam thing else. What about that dam idiot Piyush Bobby Jendal, the biggest screw up in Louisiana besides Nagin,Vitter and Scalise.Where the hell is the good ole boys that Piyush pals around with,oh, they sitting back, cause this is Jendals problem and they as usual offer no solutions only add to the problems. And where is the idiot Palin, everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon when it’s all good and in their favor but this one they just gonna stay out of this, right? At lease no one is disagreeing with Obama on one point and that is to make these crooks accountable and pay out of their own pockets for the clean up instead of the taxpayers although you won’t give him the credit ,you didn’t disagree.Your govenor only asked this week for assistance and it was given.Come on yall get off this blame game and put the blame where it belongs already. It’s time to work as one nation under God.Time to be as one ,no black,no white,we’re all in this thing together fighting for,LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.Our freedom, safety and security. How can we preach and teach our kids to be non violent when we say and do such vile things as adults and this is what the youth sees. Not a pretty picture.Yes, we definitely got to clean up this mess that is at our doors but we got to do the same with ourselves also.Grow up,please.

  19. cherylchay says:

Caroline you sound like an idiot.Bush.Bush? How can you mention him in the context of this oil spill. Yes this is the roll of the feds, but again Bush was the problem and in this context he gave these big oil company free rein and allowed them to polce themselves with no accountability and WE picked up the TAB after they polluted the waters and shores. You still on this healthcare bull, get over it and get a life. You got nothing else to say except the same old rhetoric,so please sit down somewhere. It seems you got a personal problem to me.There is much more pressing issues at hand,’cause that there that you talking ’bout was so yesterday boo.Let it go and get with the program, find something else to whine about and then sit behind you computer and blog, okay HONEY?

  20. sblackzz9 says:

Mr. President here is our response – We let the company that caused the this massive natural disaster be in charge of the clean-up. Are you sure that will work? – Of course BP is way more responsible than our administration, plus we can always blame BP, Republicans, and Bush.
