Bob Ehrlich Already Writing Off Montgomery County, Baltimore City

1:05 am EST April 3rd, 2010 | Maryland, Republicans | 4 Comments

The campaign isn’t even officially kicked off yet, but Bob Ehrlich is already in retreat. From a citizen named Frank Bell who met Ehrlich:

He did mention that even though his favorability ratings in Prince Georges County was 48% at the last election, only 10% of the people in that county voted for him.  So when someone suggested that inroads into Montgomery County and Baltimore City had to be made for him to win, he disagreed.  He has never won those two jurisdictions and knows that those voters will never vote for anyone other than a democrat.

Good! Didn’t want his ass down here in MoCo anyway. Sure, he’ll swoop in to raise cash and try to gain some press in the DC market, but that will be it–I have a hard time imagining him wandering around A Taste of Wheaton without getting a multi-lingual ration of shit.

Meanwhile, he’s got a McCain-esque level of culpability for creating Michael Steele: Sarah Palin wasn’t the first incompetent, comically inept running mate to be forced onto the Republican Party, and I can’t imagine that the GOP will be in any real rush to forgive Ehrlich for that.

  2. It would make sense for him to ignore those places. By doing so, he’ll save money and time.

  3. Problem is he’s running for Governor of the entire state.

He still needs to make inroads in Montgomery County; there’s almost 1 million people in the county and it gets bluer the further south you go. O’Malley is not well-loved in the county particularly and Ehrlich can reduce losses. Should he waste time in Silver Spring? Not much, but he should be hitting Germantown and Damascus and Poolesville and Burtonsville.
