Ohio Rep. John Boccieri Flips To “Yes”

11:54 am EST March 19th, 2010 | Politics | 16 Comments

According to counts from AP and Fox that I’ve seen, Boccieri’s move puts 215 votes in favor of passage, with one more needed.

Mr. Boccieri is a crucial flip for Congressional Democratic leaders. On Monday President Obama visited Ohio to rally support for the legislation in part because of a letter he received from one of Mr. Boccieri’s constituents, a woman named Natoma Canfield, who said she could no longer afford her health insurance. Since sending the letter, Ms. Canfield, who survived an earlier bout with cancer, has learned that she has leukemia.

Mr. Boccieri invoked Ms. Canfield’s name and also spoke emotionally about standing at the foot of his mother’s bed as a small boy as she told him that she had breast cancer.

‘Thank God she had health insurance,’ he said, adding, that he was thinking ‘about what could happen to the 39,000 people in my district who don’t have health insurance.’

Noting the threats that his yes vote could cost him his job in November, Mr. Boccieri said, ‘I want my mom to know I am standing up today and doing what I believe in.’

It’s sad that people like Frank Kratovil here in Maryland don’t get that.

IF TEHY REALLY HAVE THE VOTES, WHY NOT TAKE THE VOTE TODAY??!?

    Sleep in, lads.

Keep calling. Remind any fence-sitters that they might forgo future Medical Industrial Complex funding by voting for HCR, but on the other hand, this is quickly shaping up like the Vote to Fuck Up Iraq in 2002. Virtually all Dems who voted for that now regret it (as they should, right President Hillary?). In a matter of months or weeks, damn near any Dem who votes against HCR will feel like a chump. As they should. Actually you can strike the part about foregoing Medical Industrial Complex funding. They prolly know that. No sense in reminding them. Keep calling.

A sad day for all of us here in Ohio. He just lost my vote and we will do everything to spread the word and get him out of office.

He does not represent the will of the people. But he didn’t mind taking a kickback did he?

  8. Indeed says:

But I bet he remembers what The South was fighting for. I bet he knows his modern Republican constituents.

Don’t I wish! I’d love to hear him bleating that the Dems spent the last year lying about the bill.

But hey, Sunday’s a golf day. I’m sure he’ll jump right on it Monday.

I will be financially supporting his republican opponent in the 2010 election even though I am not a constituent of his district. I am proud that we have a representative like Jim Jorden to represent us from Ohio. His speach on the vote change today was pathetic! Just another sob story that would have been covered under our current benevolet health program! We know that changes are needed, but such a major over haul to control health insurance by the democracts is not called for.
