If Dems Want To Hold Their Majorities, Pass The Bill
Tweet
As it is right now, Democratic base voters aren’t wild about the midterms while GOP voters are. Especially because of the kind of people who vote in midterms, Dems need to give their base a reason to come out. As this poll shows almost the entire Democratic base supports passage of the health care bill.
“Vote for us we punted on health care reform again” would not be the best rallying cry.

“Look at the reform bill we passed” isn’t exactly going to have them rolling in the aisles either.
“YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO BE A MUSLIM TO GO TO THE DOCTOR. ARE YOU READY TO GIVE UP HAM?”-Matt Drudge
But the “Democratic base” doesn’t live in these swing districts: they live in safe districts where the “yea” votes were won the second it was proposed.
For these swing House members, a “yea” vote is all but a resignation letter.
In Teabaggia and Fox News, yes.
So then shouldn’t you be for reform? Or are you that concerned about Dems retaining their majority? And base voters live in every district, and they’re the ones who come out the most historically in midterms.
So then shouldn’t you be for reform?
Sorry, but there’s some people that would rather see a bad bill fail, even if it hurts your party’s political chances. Country before Party, and all that.
Thanks for proving where your loyalties REALLY lie…
It’s good enough for me. How many times do I have to say it? Thirty million more people with coverage, no denial on preexisting conditions, deficit reduction and for those afraid of a socialist take over, if you want to keep your existing coverage, KEEP IT.
Damn it, why do I HAVE to want the magical winged pony when I already REALLY LIKE THIS PONY RIGHT HERE?
Let’s just see how many of those 30 million actually wind up with coverage…and just what that coverage turns out to be. You might find that that “good enough” pony turns out to be a pig in a poke.
Oliver, Oliver. Don’t you understand. Us evil liberals only live in place like San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Philadelphia. There are no liberals in the Midwest or South.
Country before Party, and all that.
Haw!
If it doesn’t pass, the Democrats will certainly get what they deserve. Why not have a GOP majority, if they’re just going to get what they want anyway?
country before party. good one. of course it doesn’t apply to repubs.
Hope he fails! Hope he fails! Hope he fails!
Millions uninsured? Who cares!
People going bankrupt from healthcare? Who cares!
Costs rising with no end in sight? Who cares!
Hope he fails! Hope he fails! Hope he fails!
Precisely. Apparently eight years wasn’t enough to convince everyone of the utter bankruptcy of Republican policies. If health care goes down to defeat it means they need a reminder.
But… but… SCOTT BROWN DRIVES A TRUCK!
Ok, so in this bill, some portion up to 30 million uninsured will be covered. How many will no bill cover?
Waterloo
You know, you’re right. Covering zero extra people, allowing insurance companies to continue denying service based on preexisting conditions is clearly a better option. Add to that the crippling of a Democratic administration and increased Democratic losses among the Democratic party due to demoralization which will not be replaced by more progressive policies and politicians, but instead Republicans and more conservative initiatives and, gee, I am totally beginning to see your point of view.
No, Liberalbob’s got it right, this is a terrible bill, we must kill it and wait for another fifteen to forty years in order to try again. Maybe then we’ll get a robust public option.
They done call that real Amurica, mmmhmm. Real ‘Muricans don’t have no fancy college degrees, mmm hmmm, they get their learnin’ from th’ man on the tv, mmm hmm
“Bah that TV is just EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVUL librul Hollywood…we REAL MURIKANS just need good people like Rush and Glenbeck to tell us what to think!” -cons
Jim fucking DeMint. His words pretty much sum up the Republicans’ attitude towards the Obama presidency.
I’ll tell you right now, as I’ve said a few times, I LIKE the bill. But even if I didn’t, I would still want to see it pass if for no other reason than for the sheer glee of cramming “Waterloo” back down their ****ing throats before the ink from the President’s pen dries.
Of course, I’m not bitter.
