Fox “Journalists” Say Glenn Beck Undermines Their “Credibility”

1:30 am EST March 15th, 2010 | Media | 23 Comments

Of course, you have to go into this with the assumption that any journalists at Fox News (save perhaps Shep Smith and Catherine Herridge) have any actual credibility.

By calling President Obama a racist and branding progressivism a ‘cancer,’ Beck has achieved a lightning-rod status that is unusual even for the network owned by Rupert Murdoch. And that, in turn, has complicated the channel’s efforts to neutralize White House criticism that Fox is not really a news organization. Beck has become a constant topic of conversation among Fox journalists, some of whom say they believe he uses distorted or inflammatory rhetoric that undermines their credibility.

Fox has never really been a news channel, so much as it is a well-financed version of a right wing AM talk station, the buffoonery of Beck just takes that up to another level. I’ve got little to no sympathy for the journalists quoted, once you take a job with Fox News everyone with a pulse knows you’ve just signed up with the TV arm of the RNC anyway.

“THEY NEED TO BE PUT ON THE ANTI-AMERICAN LIST. THE PROBLEM WITH JOSEPH MCCARTHY IS HE DIDN’T GO FAR ENOUGH. GLENN BECK IS A HERO LIKE RONALD REAGAN AND JOHN WAYNE”-Matt Drudge

  2. Dennis says:

Gee, Oliver, was it the same Howard Kurtz that wrote that article that you said this about him:

The Apparently Blind (And Dumb) Howard Kurtz?

Bear in mind that this “reporting” comes from the media reporter for the primary newspaper in our nation’s capital. This isn’t a guy at the Podunk Times writing about the Mystery Theater on Channel 52. This is Howard Kurtz, in the Washington Post…….

…..If you go to the link, you’ll see a video with all the things Howard Kurtz didn’t – or more likely – wouldn’t see. Don’t trust the mainstream media, they just want to hurt you.

    or this…

    Howard Kurtz Enjoys Being Dishonest?

Writing about the White House truthfully labeling Fox News as GOP TV, Kurtz writes

“Plus, if you look at MSNBC’s lineup after 6 p.m., Fox isn’t the only network that goes heavy on the opinionated hosts.

That of course it the journalistic equivalent of writing that Mrs. Lincoln quite enjoyed the show…..

Presumably since Kurtz bashed Glenn Beck at Fox without mentioning the far more idiotic and inflammatory Keith Olbermann at MSNBC, in your opinion now he’s suddenly being smart, enlightened, and honest?

And in this particular case we should trust the mainstream media.

    Flippety.

    Floppety.

    Flippity.

  3. Sorry, Dennis, you may dislike Olbermann, but there is no way he is “more idiotic” than Beck. Olbermann actually is an expert on baseball. He caught many errors in Ken Burn’s documentary and Burns, mensch that he is, owned up to them. I’ve heard Beck ponitificate many times on the stuff he is supposed to be “expert” on, and he gets stuff wrong on a regular basis. Beck is fool enough to believe he is the modern day Tom Paine. Paine was to the left of Dennis Kucinich and would hate Glenn Beck’s guts.

  4. Wilbur says:

What’s your point, Dennis? Even you say something right occasionally, so, a fortiori (sed non multum), can Kurtz.

Plus, what Kurtz says here is against type, so is more credible.

Think of it this way: If I were to say “I saw Dennis disemboweling puppies and eating the guts like spaghetti”, your wingnut friends would probably not believe me: they would say “Aw, Wilbur’s always ragging on Dennis”

However, if I were to say “I saw Dennis disemboweling puppies but he was careful NOT to eat the guts like spaghetti,” they would be more likely to believe me because they would see no reason for me to invent such a flattering picture of you.

  5. bikelib says:

Yet again, Dennis doesn’s actually deny the main point of Oliver’s post. Another chapter in the never-ending chronicles of “Hey. look over there!”

  6. bikelib says:

That’s what I usually wonder after reading one of Dennis’s comments: “What’s your point?”. Because he rarely actually disputes the premise of OW’s post.

  7. Dennis says:

Matthew, would you be able to make the case that MSNBC “Journalists” wouldn’t Say Keith Olbermann Undermines Their “Credibility”? Or the almost equally nutty and idiotic Ed Schultz.

Ask yourself that and whether or not you think a balanced report on Glenn Beck and Fox might do well to include that if it were true, which it is.

  8. Wilbur says:

True, bikelib. When I see how content-free the wingnut arguments are here it really makes me feel good about being a progressive.

  9. Dennis says:

What’s my point, bikelib? Oliver is asking you to believe a guy who he has repeatedly told you not to believe.

My point is that, pathetically, you will do just that.

And even more pathetically, you will defend his doing it.

  10. bikelib says:

No, the point is this: Do Beck’s shenanigans pose any sort of problem with undermining the credibility of any actual journalists at Fox? Yes or no. And please don’t respond with anything about MSNBC. This is about Beck and FOX journalists.

  11. Dennis says:

Wilbur, if I posted something here making a case against Barack Obama and Democratic Party-shilling mouthpiece MSNBC, written by a guy that I have routinely berated for being dumb, blind and dishonest and told you not to believe, what do you think you would say to me?

  12. Wilbur says:

Dennis, would a balanced report on you say that you eat puppy guts like spaghetti?

Can you make the case that you do NOT eat like spaghetti the guts of puppies you disembowel?

So that we can believe you, please provide verifiable witness statements and, if possible, pictures of yourself baking puppy guts into a casserole like lasagna rather than eating them like spaghetti.

  13. Dennis says:

What’s your point, Dennis? Even you say something right occasionally,…

Up until just now, surprisingly when it’s convenient, you’ve never said that, Wilbur.

    Funny that, huh?

  14. bikelib says:

And, yes, I violated my own moratorium on not engaging Mr. “very liberal Newsweek”. Sorry about that.

  15. Dennis says:

This is about Beck and FOX journalists.

Of course it is. Written by a guy who you’ve been told not to believe because he’s dishonest and doesn’t provide balanced reporting.

When was he called dishonest, you ask me?

Why, when he wrote something mildly defending Fox from absurd White House attacks by mentioning MSNBC’s bias in the same article, bikelib. Bashed for being balanced.

Strange, huh? Kurtz is only honest and to be believed when he’s criticizing Fox. That you describe as an argument full of content.

  16. This is a pretty poorly constructed look over here from you Dennis. I still think Kurtz is far too enthralled with wingers and his idea of a balance between MSNBC and Fox is bull. That doesn’t change the fact that so-called Fox journalists told him of their concern with Becky.

  17. Indeed says:

So is the Reality Based Community and humanity at large better served by Glenn Beck staying on the air than him going away to the Loony Bin? Will he ultimately (and correctly) turn more people off a la the Joey Joe-Joe Jr. Shabadoo McCarthy overreach?

  18. Wilbur says:

Find such a person and such a post and I’ll let you know.

Meanwhile, back on topic: are you saying you think Kurtz is lying about what his sources tell him? What evidence do you have for that.

Also, I’m still waiting for your answer to what you do with the guts of the puppies you disembowel.

  19. Indeed says:

Hope you’re in a comfortable spot. And enjoy trumped up, self-absorbed mewling. And tiresome modern Republican talking points lifted from the Usual Loathsome Suspects. (DFtT.)

  20. Indeed says:

    You were expecting?

  21. Marco says:

    But, but, but MSNBC!!!!!

    Shorter conservative argument always.

  22. ukobserver says:

In the UK we get Faux “News” as part of Murdoch’s satellite channels free of charge.

Anyone who follows US politics here with functioning brain cells see them for what they are, the media arm of the GOP and there is nothing that can be done to change that, mainly because our textbooks aren’t sourced from Texas!!!

  23. Wilbur says:

Naah, the quickest way to get rid of Dennis is to ask him to respond to the topic of the thread.
