AIPAC Issues Marching Orders, Who Will Listen?

12:39 pm EST March 15th, 2010 | World | 27 Comments

It will be interesting to see which politicians, especially Democratic ones, ask AIPAC “how high” after the group has issued these marching orders to criticize the administration on their response to Israel’s insult to the United States.

Israel is our ally, and they should start acting like it. One way to do that would be not engaging in activity harmful to the security of American forces.

    I love this bit:

    2. Contact Secretary of State Clinton and urge the United States to immediately defuse the current tension with Israel.

Yes, bow and scrape, Secretary Clinton!

  2. Paul_D says:

    Dear Israel,

    1. Stop buliding settlements
    2. STFU.

    Sincerely, American taxpayers.

Oliver, as re: US/Israel relations, and Israel appearing to act against the insterests of the US…While the *citizens* of Israel are largely our friends /allies, the *government* of Israel view the relationship in an entirely different light…

Remember Jonathan Pollard? He’s not the only one cooling his heels behind bars for trying to ‘serve 2 Masters’. The Christianists in the AIPAC and elsewhere want the US to accede to all Israel’s demands, so as to facilitate the coming (in their fevered fantasies) Armageddon.

At the very least, definitely time for tough love.

But really, what we need is to tell (and show) the world that we really do care about oppressed people in every country, including the Palestinians.

This is why people need to donate to jstreet.org

  6. Apologize to the Muslims, boot Israel in the ass = Foreign Policy, Obama style. Let’s see who straps on the C4 first.

  7. mike in dc says:

Terrorism= bad illegal stuff, ethically and under international law
Settling occupied, non-annexed territory = bad illegal stuff, ethically and under international law(you can look it up if you want, the 4th Geneva Convention specifically prohibits such activity).

The prior rationale for such settlements (a security buffer) should be inoperative in the event a two-state solution is fully implemented. Ergo, the Israelis should be dismantling the settlements, not building more–just as the Palestinians should be arresting and shutting down the rocket attack perps.
I have no problem with the Israelis using proportionate and necessary violence in self-defense. I do have a problem with the settlements, because it turns them into self-serving hypocrites when they (properly) charge the PA with bad faith.

  9. KXB says:

“Apologize to the Muslims, boot Israel in the ass = Foreign Policy”

Last I checked, it was Obama that ramped up the drone strikes in Afghanistan & Pakistan, captured more “real” Taliban & Al Qaeda personnel, not some illiterate villager who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The only thing asked of Israel was to stop making more illegal settlements.

BTW – when you invade the wrong country, kill a couple of hundred thousand Muslims, don’t you think an apology is in order?

  10. Wilbur says:

Admit it, Frank, if this were any other country besides Israel, and I mean any other country – France, Britain, Suriname – you’d accuse Obama of wimpiness if his admin didn’t object strenuously to such a fuck-off move.

  11. Sean D. Martin says:

because it turns them into self-serving hypocrites

    Alas, that’s nothing new.

Insist complex issues are a simple bumper sticker equation = demonstration of ignorance, Frank style.

  13. So you support endangering American troops, right? Nice.

  14. SaveFarris says:

BTW – when you … kill a couple of hundred thousand Muslims

you’ve only reached 20% of Saddam’s body count!

  15. PTCruiser says:

    Remember the Liberty!!!

Yes, and the continuing efforts of our government to cover up this unprovoked attack on an American ship and its crew.

  16. KXB says:

“you’ve only reached 20% of Saddam’s body count!”

Using your logic, the Arabs have not killed as many Jews as the Germans did, so what are the Israelis complaining about?

  17. durablend says:

“Bah they’re just a bunch of worthless brown people anyway” -cons

  18. Wilbur, if this were any other country, there wouldn’t have been such an effort to criticize them.

So you support endangering American troops, right? Nice.

I could say, “Since when do you care about the troops?”, but I won’t. I’ll ask you, In what way are our troops endangered?

  19. I could say, “Since when do you care about the troops?”, but I won’t.
Say it, coward. I did, long before you warmongers on the right did. Some of us don’t think “support the troops” is just a magnetic ribbon you stick on your car.

In what way are our troops endangered?
Further building of Israeli settlements lessens support for us in the middle east. Ask Petraeus.

  20. You mean if we could just get Israel to self-destruct, the Muslims would all love us ?

    That’s a plan !

Pretending simple issues require polysyllabic words to achieve their resolution = pseudointellectualism, or ignorance disguised as education Sean Martin (and most other liberals) style.

  21. And “support the troops” doesn’t mean you get to pick the war…

  22. ajay says:

AIPAC Lashes Out at Obama for Supporting US Interests in Middle East

  23. No genius, supporting the troops is all about which wars you choose to pursue. And when you go into those wars, its about doing what’s best for them to get the job done and in the safest manner possible. You and the rest of the right failed on every single one of those obligations we owe our troops. Every single one.

  24. Wilbur says:

Supporting the troops includes saying “bring them home” when they are being abused by incompetent leadership in Washington.

  25. Wilbur says:

You mean if we could just get Israel to self-destruct, the Muslims would all love us ? …

Pretending simple issues require polysyllabic words to achieve their resolution = pseudointellectualism….

At this point I think we just have to leave Frank alone and let him finish watching the little John Wayne movie that’s playing on the insides of his eyelids.

  26. Sean D. Martin says:

Frank DiS: You mean if we could just get Israel to self-destruct, the Muslims would all love us ?

Yes, because wanting Israel to actually act in a responsible manner and actually pursue peace is exactly the same thing as saying they should cease to exist.

The wingnut inability to see anything other than extremes, ladies and gentlemen.

It’s why things have to be explained to them as one would explain to a child.
