WaPo: Massa Being Investigated For Groping Male Staffers

No wonder the conservatives think he’s a hero today…

Former Rep. Eric Massa has been under investigation for allegations that he groped multiple male staffers working in his office, according to three sources familiar with the probe.

The allegations surrounding the New York Democrat date back at least a year, and involve ‘a pattern of behavior and physical harassment,’ according to one source. The new claims of alleged groping contradict statements by Massa, who resigned his office on Monday after it became public that he was the subject of a House ethics committee investigation for possible harassment.

    I am NOT excusing Massa, but… 1) this is the Washington Post, 2) he didn’t resign after ethic investigation revealed (he announced his intent last week to resign with Monday as the effective date, news of ethics investigation came *after* announcement), 3) investigation is now moot due to resignation, 4) continued “anonymously sourced” stories only help two groups: Hoyer/Rahm and chortling (ethically-challenged) GOPers. Did Massa do something wrong? Probably but we’ll never know the truth (see 3 above). Do Steny Hoyer and Repugs know how to play dirty politics? Absolutely.

    2) is some really weak sauce. You think Massa didn’t know about the ethics investigation or what it was about? Of course he knew about it, and he knew his goose was cooked.

    I’m not saying he’s ‘innocent.’ I’m just suggesting that folks are jumping to conclusions based on pretty weak gruel. Yes, his statements are all over the place which makes him seem guilty of something. We just don’t know what he’s guilty of. I still believe in the old fashioned notion of needing facts before reaching a conclusion.

    Massa may or may not have known; we don’t know. But the reporting doesn’t have the *public* timeline right.

    To be fair, he says his admitted groping was strictly non-sexual.
