The KSM Cave

I don’t know what to think of the idea to retreat to the right on trying Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, other than to say: Stupid. The courts can handle these guys, have handled worse, and we ought to be able to do so without conceding to conservative bed wetting.

Once again Democrats punt on being strong and right.

Mr. Obama and his administration are doing this to curry favor with Lindsay Graham. Why, I don’t know. He’s not going to do anything useful for them. Giving something for nothing doesn’t just look weak, it is weak. We don’t want leaders.

And this continues the perception that Democrats won’t fight for anything and don’t really believe in anything. The few powerful speeches on health insurance reform are not enough to overcome that perception even with me, who really wants to believe in Mr. Obama.

But I sure wish he’d give me a little something to work with here.

  2. Pryme says:

The Democrats fear the GOP’s base more then they fear their own. Until that changes, expect more of this.

  3. mambochicken23 says:

I hate that you’re right. Absolutely hate it.

  4. Marco says:

Embarrassing. How many terrorists do we have rotting in jail? 200-300? The right wing browns it’s pants and the President seemingly fears them.

  5. UncleBean says:

I’m actually surprised AG Holder isn’t representing KSM

  6. FreeRepublik says:

Still afraid of coming out as weak. I was thinking about it yesterday when I saw Rove, in his book, says invading Iraq without the fear of WMD would have still probably happen. True, because Democrats would have still caved in.

  7. merl says:

Obama spends way too much time pleasing people who would never vote for him in the first place. I guess he doesn’t want to be President in 2012, if he keeps this up I won’t vote for him again.

  8. MrGreyGhost says:

So simplistic to put a “Left vs. Right” spin on this instead of just looking at pure, common sense. Not that anyone outside NYC cares (including OW), but 70% of New Yorkers are against the trials being held here. Then too, putting aside the mental anguish of being reminded of that harkening day of 9/11 with a trial of one its chief architects right in our backyard, there’s the huge strain this trial would put on our police force (the entire low end of Manhattan, including Wall Street would literally have to go on lockdown for security) and then there’s the $200M price tag that Eric Holder still hasnt explained how Barry’s administration is going to pay back. And lets not forget that the NYC Police commissioner is against the trials being held here, as is the mayor, hell even OW’s favorite Senator Schumer is pushing to have them removed from the entire state. Liberals can continue to carry Obama’s water and make this a “conservative” issue all they want, but the facts tell us otherwise.

  9. Steve Rogers says:

That’s just genius strategery. You see, if Obama utterly capitulate to the Republicans on this issue (and hangs his defenders out to dry in the process), they’ll stop saying mean things about him.

Once again Democrats punt on being strong and right.

This isn’t “Democrats” doing this; it’s Obama and his advisors.

  10. Quaker in a Basement says:

Can’t wait to hear why the right thinks this is the wrong move also.

  11. merl says:

the right is no longer the Law and Order Party. they have no faith in our judicial system. the lost the mantle of National Security Party on 9/11

  12. Here’s a hint as to what is going on:

The president’s advisers feel increasingly hemmed in by bipartisan opposition … critics have said military tribunals are the appropriate venue for those accused of attacking the United States.

You see, back in January, we didn’t crown a king.

  13. mambochicken23 says:

Does widdle Frankie need his bottle? Is he a-scared of the big bad man? Don’t worry, the scary man won’t hurt you. President Obama and his friends are lock him up for you, yes sir! And then we can all go get ICE CREAM! Yay!

  14. calling all toasters says:

I KNOW!!! For instance, what if KSM was allowed to speak at his trial? He might emit a piercing shriek that kills everyone in the room. Or he might convince all New Yorkers to blow up the remaining buildings in the city. Certainly, anyone who had a family member murdered deserves the right to NOT be able to attend the trial. I don’t know why we woulldn’t lock down the entire city (oh, hell, the entire planet) given the history of terrorists blowing stuff up near trials of their group members. I can’t think of any real-life examples, but there’s the Brian Bosworth movie Stone Cold (which wasn’t really about terrorists because they were white and didn’t have superpowers, but still).

The important thing is: our politicians are fulfilling their obligation to make us afraid of the boogeyman, and we should respect that.

  15. mambochicken23 says:

You say that now… just wait till you see who the Republicans nominate to run against him.

  16. jrfunkenstein says:

Considering what the alternatives may be Merl, you may want to rethink that.

  17. jr says:

Letting the wrong wing win again. Local police are too dumb to handle security, juries are too dumb to convict, federal prison guards are too dumb to prevent an escape

  18. UncleBean says:

How are they going to hold a military tribunal at Gitmo when it’s closed? Oh, it’s still open? None of this shit would happen if we got rid of that fascist Patriot Act!! Oh, Obama didn’t end the dreaded Patriot Act.. You know whom I blame, BOOOOOOSH!!!

  19. Zython says:

Then too, putting aside the mental anguish of being reminded of that harkening day of 9/11 with a trial of one its chief architects right in our backyard

What the hell happened to “Never Forget”? Did you forget that, too?

And why do conservatives mistrust the U.S. Justice system so much? They seem to have no issue with it when it comes to using socialized vengeance on our own citizens.

  20. UncleBean says:

Zython- What in the hell is “socialized vengeance?”

  21. tim says:

I think President Obama IS the big bad man Frank is a-scared of.

  22. Allen says:

He’s displeasing the people who DID vote for him, too. It seems as though he has no ideals or philosophy worth keeping. Aside from his throw-away campaign rhetoric, I have no idea what is stands for, if anything.

  23. calling all toasters says:

    “socialized vengeance”– that’s a keeper!

  24. NCSenior says:

Agreed, but if people vote for Obama as the lesser of two evils, he will be a lame duck president from day one of his second term.

  25. Parthenon says:

I sympathize with you firebaggers but I hope you find your pragmatism before 2012.

  26. Parthenon says:

I wonder when the administration’s light is going to go on that they could let Glenn Beck write every policy and the GOP would still call them terrorist-loving commies.

  27. Bitter Scribe says:

Wouldn’t putting KSM on trial as an “enemy combatant” be exactly what he wants? There’s more dignity in that for the accused than in being haled before a criminal court like a common thief and murderer.

  28. Todd says:

The problem with putting KSM on a civilian trial is that I doubt he’d be able to get a fair trial since the Republican party and the rest MSM hacks have scared the American people in to a perpetual state of fear over anyone that isn’t Caucasian (not to mention the boneheaded statements by the administration which seemed to indicate that they thought he was guilty without the need for a trial). :/

  29. Zython says:

I believe the conservatives still call it the “death penalty”.

  30. I am not the least bit concerned about KSM’s dignity or with his skin color [BTW, Todd, the people of the Middle East are caucasians]. What I am concerned about is that “Only two of the seven death sentences handed down since the reinstatement of capital punishment in 1995 came out of the five boroughs.” link.

He stands a better chance of hanging if tried by a military tribunal. In a NYC Court, he is liable to be set free because “all the witnesses died in a plane crash.”

  31. Zython says:

We have a thing for that. It’s called the witness protection program.

And if our government is so retarded (that’s right, I went there) that they would put every single witness on the same plane, then they should have a more competent government holding him.

  32. Zython, the witnesses I was referring to are already dead. They died on Sep 11, 2001. I guess irony is not your strong suit.

  33. Zython says:

First off, that’s not ironic, it’s just stupid. Secondly, I’m pretty sure the victims of 9/11 never saw KSM, unless he’s somehow immortal, in which case, we have much bigger problems.

  34. UncleBean says:

“I believe the conservatives still call it the “death penalty”.

No, everyone calls it “The Death Penalty.”

    Morons call is “socialized vengeance.”

  35. Zython says:

I’m sorry you support having the government needlessly kill people, some of who are innocent, for you. I say if you want revenge, do your own dirty work. Don’t have my tax dollars pay for it.

  36. Don’t say that anyone needlessly killed some people when, in fact , one man who may have been innocent was executed. I don’t believe KSM is innocent.

BTW, it was you that was too stupid to get the point, not me for making the point.

Why don’t you quit trying to be a wiseass, because – wow! – you suck at it, and maybe engage someone in a discussion and learn something?

  37. Zython says:

I don’t believe KSM is innocent.

Ok, so why does he need to be killed outside of a desire for vengeance? If he’s incarcerated, he doesn’t pose a threat anymore.

And Frank, i sincerely apologize for being unable to decipher your cryptic, nonsensical ramblings.

  38. UncleBean says:

“Don’t have my tax dollars pay for it”

So we agree. Federally funded abortion is wrong, right?

  39. The Dark Avenger says:

Except for the fact that abortion doesn’t kill an independent, functioning human being like the death penalty does.

  40. Ok, so why does he need to be killed outside of a desire for vengeance?
Whether or not I have a desire for vengeance is irrelevant. But if vengeance is what the people want, then it’s vengeance the people shall have. And who are you to tell them no?

That’s the problem with you liberals – you are not in the least concerned with the will of the people.

A majority of people oppose abortion on demand – f*ck them!

A majority of people favor private ownership of weapons – f*ck them !

A majority of people think Obamacare stinks on ice – f*ck them !

  41. Zython says:

But if vengeance is what the people want, then it’s vengeance the people shall have.

That sounds like mob rule to me.

A majority of people oppose abortion on demand

    *cough*

Also, does this mean you support abortion at random?

A majority of people favor private ownership of weapons

I don’t recall weapons being publicly owned. Did I miss a memo?

A majority of people think Obamacare stinks on ice

    *cough cough*

That’s the problem with you conservatives, you delude yourselves into believing that everyone agrees with you, and shelter yourselves from information that says otherwise.

  42. Sean D. Martin says:

mambo: You say that now… just wait till you see who the Republicans nominate to run against him.

Which is an argument that Obama is the less bad of two weak choices….

  43. Sean D. Martin says:

F DiS: But if vengeance is what the people want, then it’s vengeance the people shall have. And who are you to tell them no?

Uh, a law-abiding, Constitution-supporting citizen who knows mob rule is anathema to the freedom and justice I support.

  44. You might want to do something about that cough. Just asking if abortion should be legal, is not the same as asking if abortion on demand should be legal.

Yes, Zython, there is a campaign to take away people’s personal weapons.

Just because people are “tending toward” the public option, does not mean that people favor the whole bill.

Why do you liberals pretend that everyone agrees with you, and shelter yourselves from information that says otherwise?

  45. Sean D. Martin says:

F DiS: A majority of people oppose abortion on demand – f*ck them!

A majority of people favor private ownership of weapons – f*ck them !

A majority of people think Obamacare stinks on ice – f*ck them !

First, pretty sure majorities don’t think those. Show me the poll that says they do and I’ll bet I can find one that shows the opposite.

But even if they do, so what? The majority wanting something is not the ultimate deciding factor. Nor should it be. They tyranny of the majority was rightly feared by those beloved Founding Fathers.

If a majority of the people decide that all residents of New Rochelle should be shot on sight, does that mean it should be done? If the majority decide there should be separate drinking fountains, lunch counters and schools for Italians, does that mean it should be done?

  46. Sean D. Martin says:

F DiS: Yes, Zython, there is a campaign to take away people’s personal weapons.

Which is not the same as a majority of the people believing nobody should be allowed to own a gun.

Yeah, nuance. Gray areas. Isn’t reality a bitch? So much easier to speak in self-righteous absolutes.

  47. Zython says:

Just asking if abortion should be legal, is not the same as asking if abortion on demand should be legal.

So what do you propose instead of “abortion on demand”? Abortion at random? Abortion by vote? Abortion Tuesdays? I’m just trying to figure out what you mean. It’s not like you’re just phrasing it that way in order to try to scare people, right?

    Right?

Yes, Zython, there is a campaign to take away people’s personal weapons.

Who’s leading this “campaign”? What’s it called?

Just because people are “tending toward” the public option, does not mean that people favor the whole bill.

True, let’s go to the poll, shall we?
