Advance Excerpts From Obama Remarks On Health Care Reform Way Forward

12:26 pm EST March 3rd, 2010 | Politics | 59 Comments

The White House press office sends these along:

“I don’t believe we should give government bureaucrats or insurance company bureaucrats more control over health care in America. I believe it’s time to give the American people more control over their own health insurance. I don’t believe we can afford to leave life-and-death decisions about health care to the discretion of insurance company executives alone. I believe that doctors and nurses like the ones in this room should be free to decide what’s best for their patients.

The proposal I’ve put forward gives Americans more control over their health care by holding insurance companies more accountable. It builds on the current system where most Americans get their health insurance from their employer. If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Because I can tell you that as the father of two young girls, I wouldn’t want any plan that interferes with the relationship between a family and their doctor.”

***

“So this is our proposal. This is where we’ve ended up. It’s an approach that has been debated and changed and I believe improved over the last year. It incorporates the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans – including some of the ideas that Republicans offered during the health care summit, like funding state grants on medical malpractice reform and curbing waste, fraud, and abuse in the health care system. My proposal also gets rid of many of the provisions that had no place in health care reform – provisions that were more about winning individual votes in Congress than improving health care for all Americans.”

***

“At stake right now is not just our ability to solve this problem, but our ability to solve any problem. The American people want to know if it’s still possible for Washington to look out for their interests and their future. They are waiting for us to act. They are waiting for us to lead. And as long as I hold this office, I intend to provide that leadership. I don’t know how this plays politically, but I know it’s right. And so I ask Congress to finish its work, and I look forward to signing this reform into law.”

I know some of the leftwing mental midgets here will starting call out their usual names and rhetoric for people they disagree with.

Yeah, wow. Howdy to you too.

  2. Indeed says:

Indeed, because [t]hat’s whats liberals do best, insult and name call and when people stand up to them they whine, cry and head of the hills.

Obviously, I can’t help but wonder if we’ve heard the last from Donna.

  3. SaveFarris says:

They are waiting for us to act. They are waiting for us to lead. And as long as I hold this office, I intend to provide that leadership.

Not that he’ll ACTUALLY provide leadership, just that he INTENDS to.

Same old plan, same old talking points, same old lies, same old massively unpopular bill. What do they call doing the same thing and expecting different results?

  4. jr says:

“HE’S USING THE NUCLEAR OPTION”-Matt Drudge

  5. Rheinhard says:

Fortunately Donna doesn’t have to experience this kind of problem on right wing blogs, because on wingnut blogs anyone who presents a contrary view just gets banned outright.

  6. White Whale says:

Shorter Donna- “I’m new and I can’t stay on topic so….liberals are poopy!”

Obama should have paraded the Republicans out a long time ago.

  7. Quaker in a Basement says:

The House has passed health care reform. The Senate has passed health care reform.

    Deal with it.

  8. Dennis says:

Not true, Rheinhard. Lots of conservative blogs welcome the kind of idiocy you could offer.

Like here, you’re just not trying hard enough.

  9. Burn says:

    Dennis in drag?

  10. Michael Over Here says:

“some of the leftwing mental midgets here will starting call out their”
Wow, it’s pretty daring to have grammar like that and ad hominem attacks question others intelligence in the same sentence.

    “head of the hills.”
Is this a new turn of phrase I’ve never heard before?

But seriously, you complain that liberals do nothing but insult but that’s all you’ve done in this thread: throw shit around. How much of a hypocrite can one prove themselves to be in their first few posts. Even SaveFarris kept us guessing for a thread or two before he started linking to sources that disproved his actual point.

  11. Burn says:

Being a new poster on here, I know some of the leftwing mental midgets here will starting call out their usual names and rhetoric for people they disagree with.

    Irony impaired wingnuts…

  12. Dennis says:

Wow, it’s pretty daring to have grammar like that and ad hominem attacks question others intelligence in the same sentence.

If I cared about grammar and ad hominem attacks I might question both in that sentence, MOH.

    But I don’t, so I won’t.

  13. Rheinhard says:

So I guess all those wingnut bans are all in our imaginations, right?

Hey, tell you what, can you direct me to a wingnut blog where I can make my very first post something smart and clever like Donna’s “You right wing douchebags are all whiners and you suck and are doo-doo heads”, where I will be warmly greeted and thanked for my well-considered contributions?

  14. Dennis says:

So I guess all those wingnut bans are all in our imaginations, right?

I’m going to guess as an academic you’ve actually taken courses in logic, but having guessed that I’m at a loss as to what compelled you to come to that conclusion from what I said.

Just because you’ve been banned from some conservative blogs doesn’t mean there are none that exist that wouldn’t automatically ban you for saying something stupid.

Hey, tell you what, can you direct me to a wingnut blog where I can make my very first post something smart and clever like Donna’s “You right wing douchebags are all whiners and you suck and are doo-doo heads”, where I will be warmly greeted and thanked for my well-considered contributions?

You’d get the same reaction. What does that have to do with getting banned, though?

  15. Marco says:

    Is she parody?

  16. Marco says:

Wingnuts hear only what they want to hear.

  17. Indeed says:

Hard to tell at this point, ain’t it?

  18. John Sullivan says:

Why doesn’t everyone on here just take a DEEEEEPPPP breath, and sit back and see exactly what’s in the bill before we start passing judgement on anything. You may just find that there are more things we agree on in it than you originally thought.

  19. Wilbur says:

Just because you’ve been banned from some conservative blogs doesn’t mean there are none that exist that wouldn’t automatically ban you for [expressing a liberal opinion].

    Can you name one, Dennis?

  20. Indeed says:

Do not feed the troll. Just a thought.

  21. Wilbur says:

That would be a great idea John, if the wingnuts and republicans were actually interested in making progress on healthcare rather than embarrassing Obama.

  22. Dennis says:

Says the idiot who keeps a Word file on everything I’ve ever said on here.

    With tags, no doubt.

  23. Wilbur says:

I guess you can’t name one, then.

  24. Dennis says:

Hot Air, Don Surber, Gateway Pundit, and Ace of Spades, just for starters, Wilbur.

Why don’t you wait till one of them posts something on Eric Massa and go over there and add your thoughts.

  25. Wilbur says:

Thanks, Dennis, I’ll check ‘em out.

  26. John Sullivan says:

Wilbur, I think both sides are guilty in this regard. I’m not going to get into details. I’m not trying to start an arguement here. I’m just saying that both sides have to really examine what it is they are really after. Are the Republicans trying to impede the bill? Of course they are. Are the Democrats trying to steamroll it through? Yes, again. My point is at what point do we ALL ask why are both sides taking the positions that they have? Do the Democrats really have the average Americans best interest at heart? Or is it a power grab just like the Republicans, which in either case make both parties out to be what they really are,,,about nothing but their own power, and dam everyone else. Again, I’m just stating an opinion, NOT trying to stir things up

  27. Wilbur says:

Before I waste my time, though, have any of my pinko brethren and sistern here been banned from one of these sites?

  28. Paul_D says:

“Being a new poster on here, I know some of the leftwing mental midgets here will starting call out their usual names and rhetoric for people they disagree with.”

Whoa there, America is a free country. Us librul meanies can offer our brand of rhetoric in a convenient suppository form too.

  29. Wilbur says:

John, I respect your opinion, but it seems to me that while the Democrats may be resorting to the steamroller at this point, the fact is that that only comes after months and months of trying to do business with the republicans. Democrats have given in so much to the R’s on this that even a fair portion of the D’s have turned against them. Meanwhile the R’s have made it clear from the beginning that they are not interested in compromise and that their only real goal is not doing the people’s business but giving Obama his Waterloo.

As for whether the Democrats really have the average American’s interest at heart? I don’t know what’s in their heart of hearts, and it doesn’t really matter to me. We currently have close to the worst health care system in the developed world in terms of cost and comprehensiveness of coverage – that’s just an objective fact – and the dynamics of the system mean it will only get more costly and less efficient if left untreated. Democrats are supporting something that has a reasonable chance of improving that situation, Republicans aren’t even making a serious attempt at trying. That’s all there is to it.

They had plenty of opportunity to repair healthcare their way when they were in power, and to help shape the solution their way when the democrats were in power and trying to be “bipartisan”. Time for them to shit or get off the pot has come and gone long ago. Steamrolling’s too good for ‘em.

  30. Kevin says:

“Remember when in 2005 Obama, Biden and Dems said 51 votes to pass anything in U.S. Senate was equal to actions taken by Robepierre and Torquemada, but now when they want to pass anything with 51 votes it’s “getting things done.””

Hey Jack, got a source for that, or are you just talking out of your ass? I’m pretty sure no one said anything of the sort.

  31. merl says:

that’s one hell of a slow steamroller, it’s already been a year.

  32. mambochicken23 says:

It already passed the House and the Senate, genius. Deal with it.

  33. Quaker in a Basement says:

Banned from Red State by crazy Moe Lane himself, and proud of it!

  34. Quaker in a Basement says:

Remember when in 2005 Obama, Biden and Dems said 51 votes to pass anything in U.S. Senate was equal to actions taken by Robepierre and Torquemada,

No, actually, I don’t remember that. Be a good sport and fill me in, willya?

  35. Dennis says:

    What is your point, Quibs?

  36. Indeed says:

    No woman no cry.
    No feed no troll.

    Just a thought.

  37. Zython says:

Translation: “It’s not fair that you hold me accountable for the things I write. It’s not faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaair.”

  38. Dennis says:

Here, Quibs. As Allahpundit says, drink it in:

Then-Senator Obama dumps on “50-plus-one” approach to governance

I guess as he told John McCain, this is not the campaign anymore. What he told you then doesn’t really matter now. Not to you guys, anyway.

  39. Dennis says:

I didn’t say no one here had ever been banned at a particular conservative blog, Zython, you brain-dead idiot. And I didn’t mention Red-State, either.

I understand why you stay in school, what I don’t get is how you manage to do it.

  40. Quaker in a Basement says:

    What is your point, Quibs?

Answering Wilbur’s question. What was yours?

  41. Quaker in a Basement says:

You really think that clip shows Obama saying “51 votes to pass anything in U.S. Senate was equal to actions taken by Robepierre and Torquemada”?

If you like, I’ll explain it to you.

  42. Quaker in a Basement says:

What he told you then doesn’t really matter now.

You’re right. It doesn’t matter. The Party of No has seen to that.

  43. Jaim says:

Name a single con blog that doesn’t ban people who disagree. Name a single one that would allow a liberal to treat the place like their own personal blog.

    No? Didn’t think so.

  44. Jaim says:

“that’s one hell of a slow steamroller, it’s already been a year.”

Exactly. The GOP has had over a year to make substantive contributions to a health-care package that Americans overwhelmingly desire in the face of ridiculous costs for care.

They offered nothing. Putting up a plan that magically reduces prices but doesn’t explain the actual mechanisms for making this happen is not a real plan.

Tort reform? Sure. That’s knock down monthly insurance payments by less than one percentage point.

The time for GOP obstruction is over. They know this, and that’s why they’re peeing their diapers right now.

  45. Indeed says:

Over a year? They had from ’94 thru ’06 to get some shit put together. I guess they had way more important things to address (impeaching Clinton’s penis, wildly regressive and unpaid for tax cuts, invading Iraq for no reason, allowing torture, domestic spying, and what have you).

  46. Wilbur says:

Hey Qib, I got banned on Redstate with my first post! And I didn’t even say ‘fuck’!

    Beat that!

  47. Wilbur says:

Hot Air: registration is closed. Too much freedom is inconvenient.

  48. Dennis says:

Jaim, very few blogs, liberal or conservative, allow people to blog-whore like you do here.

Oliver lets you get away with it, and you take advantage of it.

You’re a hypocrite, through and through.

  49. Dennis says:

They open it up to open new registration fairly frequently, Wilbur.

Like I said to Rheinhard, you’re just not trying.

You really don’t want to post there, you just want to claim you can’t.

Part and parcel with the liberal mindset. Why light a candle when it’s more to your liking to curse the darkness?

  50. Dennis says:

    What is your point, Quibs?

Answering Wilbur’s question. What was yours?

That I didn’t mention Red State to Wilbur as a place that allows differing viewpoints and he wasn’t asking if anyone had been banned at Red State.

  51. Randy Brown says:

Sorry son of a syphillitic streetwalker, Denise is.

  52. Dennis says:

You peaked in fifth grade, didn’t you, Randy?

Those were your Glory Days; when you you got friends because you knew a few putdowns you learned from your older brothers and they all thought you were original and cool.

  53. Randy Brown says:

I rest my case, Your Honor. Dennis proves, once again, that he hasn’t a fucking clue about anything.

Go home to your mama, little boy. Only grown-ups are allowed here anymore.

  54. Randy Brown says:

Then again, Dennis probably doesn’t need to “go home to mama” because he’s already there!

  55. Jaim says:

COME TO MY BLOG FOR PENIS ENHANCEMENT PILLS DENNIS THE INTERNET SLEUTH HAS CAUGHT ME YET AGAIN AND I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT ARGGHHHHH!!!!

  56. fafaroo says:

Nice link, Dennis. There’s nothing in that video that makes anything Jack typed make any fucking sense whatsoever. Nice try for a back up, there buddy, but fail. I’m sure Jack appreciates the effort nonetheless.

  57. Wilbur says:

Nice try Dennis. Posting either under my own name or under one of the aliases I used to use, I’ve been banned from more nutblogs than you’ve had Sarah Palin wetdreams. And in none of them was I nearly the annoying pest that Oliver allows you the freedom to be.

  58. Quaker in a Basement says:

That I didn’t mention Red State to Wilbur as a place that allows differing viewpoints and he wasn’t asking if anyone had been banned at Red State.

And you think this has anything to do with you because….?

  59. Zython says:

I didn’t say no one here had ever been banned at a particular conservative blog, Zython, you brain-dead idiot. And I didn’t mention Red-State, either.

    No, but you did say:

Says the idiot who keeps a Word file on everything I’ve ever said on here.

    With tags, no doubt.

Which is what I was responding to.
