Murdoch Swings For The Fences For UK’s David Cameron
Tweet
Based on recent polls, Conservative party leader David Cameron has badly bungled the lead he once had in the polls vs British PM Gordon Brown. Months ago, Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid The Sun made the switch from Labour to Tory in order to back the shiny new pony (as they did when Tony Blair ran back in the ’90s).
So, like with his American news outlets it’s no surprise to read a story like this in The Sun, lambasting Labour for supposedly turning England into a squalid welfare state.
Unmarried Asbo mum Lisa Lovatt, 35, who has five children by two men, epitomises the slide into state-funded family chaos under 13 years of Labour.
Only her eldest daughter still lives with her as other kids are looked after elsewhere. And her booze and fags lifestyle on benefits shows the mountain the Tory leader will face as PM in his battle to put old-fashioned virtues like marriage and respect at the top of the agenda.
This is the same junk we see on Fox News and in the NY Post in America, if not quite so blatantly partisan as the British press tends to be. I’m just an American with a weirdo interest in British culture, but one reason I’d like to see David Cameron lose is for the egg it would put on Murdoch’s face.

Funny, you posted this article…I have an odd interest in foreign politics as well…lol
I visited England sometime ago…and yes, they do have a serious immigrant problem…that needs fixing…However, I do notice shocking similarities of Murdoch news papers in England and News Station FOX in America. Have you noticed the attacks on Gordon Brown are virtually similar in style against Obama, but with a touch of racism directed at the latter.
David Cameron “Family Values”… Pitch sounds like what George Bush tried to sales us back in 2000…my money is on Cameron winning. But, only later to end up a lame duck like Bush…lol
As I have said, there has been some misjudgement by the Sun writers towards their readers at times. The “Gordon Brown mispelled by Soldier Son’s name in his handwritten letter of condolence to me” story had Sun readers taking Brown’s side against their own paper. Added to that, they taped the conversation between Brown and the mother when he ‘phoned to say sorry for the typo. Went down like a lead balloon.
As to the woman mentioned; she grew up during the Margaret “there’s no such thing as society” Thatcher’s years in office, and was 22 before Labour came to power (Remember John Major? Anyone?). By this time the die was cast IMO.
This jounalism from the Sun predates Murdoch, but it’s become more acute since he took over. I remember when Labour were more left wing (unelectably so), and they ran a smear campaign against Labour generally and Peter Tatchell in particularly (a story which implied (but couldn’t state due to our libel laws) that Tatchell was Gay (actually true; went on to front Outrage)). They printed the same story 4 times, each time using it a different way.
One story you may want to look into is this one l just found on Kos:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/3/2/842027/-UK-Election-Scandal-Reveals-Danger-of-Foreign-Influence
As it does relate to the recent decision by the US Supreme Court in regards to foreign influence.
“booze and fags lifestyle”….huh huh huh….
