  1. Marco says:

The President did a nice job on Cantor and his “OMG, this bill is long!” prop, too.

    Rather sweet.

  2. Burt Flancaster says:

I just read Ace’s take on this whole thing.

Amazing that you guys live in the same world.

    2 completely different perceptions.

  3. Phil says:

    “Owns”? Really?

So, in your world, one line from The Won beats having all of his broken campaign promises brought up on national television and the crooked PhRMA deal brought to the attention of everyone watching? (I notice that your clip conveniently leaves those bits out)

Got it. You do know that even when you set the bar that low, your candidate can still trip over it, right?

  4. Marco says:

Right, your reply would not have been exactly the same had Oliver linked to the entire exchange.

  5. SaveFarris says:

What a petulant a**hole. If Obama didn’t want to hear what McCain said, then why are we going through the charade of a Health Care Summit?!?

He’s right: the election is over. And he lost. In Virginia. In New Jersey. In Massachusettes! And coming soon in November, 50-75 House Districts near you!

  6. merl says:

your right, Crash McCain is a petulant asshole. I hope he loses his seat in the Arizona election too.

  7. mambochicken23 says:

And he lost. In Virginia. In New Jersey. In Massachusettes! And coming soon in November, 50-75 House Districts near you!

I didn’t know that Obama could hold the office of the President as well as Congress. Huh, that’s interesting.

  8. Jambo says:

You have to be kidding. McCain put the truth out there and it’s embarassing. Boss man controlling the meeting didnt address one, not one of his admins corruption and piss poor handling. He simply as the meeting controller said, yeah, yeah, yeah, we are not here for that lets move on. What Drivel. Obama is certainly a man you cannot trust.

  9. Marco says:

If Obama didn’t want to hear what McCain said, then why are we going through the charade of a Health Care Summit?!?

Right, because the President stopped the crazy old man from speaking and had him removed from chambers.

Why is challenging a Republican’s talking points considered such a vicious attack? How many rooms exist in that GOP Persecution Complex and is the AC included?

  10. Marco says:

Oh and remember, this health care summit is a TRAP!!!!!

  11. Michael Over Here says:

Heh, McCain brings up McCain’s campaign promises and it’s Obama’s fault for not sticking to McCain’s promises?

  12. merl says:

    tigers are everywhere!!!!

  13. Scoot says:

    They’re eating their bones!!

  14. Dave in SoCal says:

Wow. President “I Won” gets in a dig at Grandpa McCain. He truly is the Master of the Universe.

    But who’s drinking Obama’s milkshake?

What They Are Saying About The Morning’s Summit Session

Media Says “Republicans Brought Their ‘A Team,’” “Have Been Very Effective,” “The Folks In The White House Just Must Be Kicking Themselves Right Now”

CNN’s WOLF BLITZER: “It looks like the Republicans certainly showed up ready to play.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

CNN’s GLORIA BORGER: “The Republicans have been very effective today. They really did come to play. They were very smart.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

    • BORGER: “They took on the substance of a very complex issue. … But they really stuck to the substance of this issue and tried to get to the heart of it and I think did a very good job.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

    • BORGER: “They came in with a plan. They mapped it out.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

CNN’s DAVID GERGEN: “The folks in the White House just must be kicking themselves right now. They thought that coming out of Baltimore when the President went in and was mesmerizing and commanding in front of the House Republicans that he could do that again here today. That would revive health care and would change the public opinion about their health care bill and they can go on to victory. Just the opposite has happened.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

    • GERGEN: “He doesn’t have a strong Democratic team behind him.” (CNN’s “Live,” 2/25/10)

THE HILL’S A.B. STODDARD: “I think we need to start out by acknowledging Republicans brought their ‘A Team.’ They had doctors knowledgeable about the system, they brought substance to the table, and they, I thought, expressed interest in the reform. I thought in the lecture from Senator John McCain and on the issue of transparency, I thought today the Democrats were pretty much on their knees.” (Fox News’ “Live,” 2/25/10)

THE WEEKLY STANDARD’S STEVE HAYES: “I think to me the most important thing to come out of the morning so far is that Republicans have spent a great deal of time talking with great passion, and I think eagerness about their plans, detailing the plans that until this morning them democrats had been saying didn’t exist. Well, you now see, I think, in great detail that Republicans do have plans, that they care about the same issues and that they feel passionately about it.” (Fox News’ “Live,” 2/25/10)

But I’d like to give a big shout out to the White House for giving Republicans a huge platform (and audience) to reiterate and contrast their own plans for health care reform to the American public. Including the majority who don’t want the ObamaCare legislation (you know, that same majority who the Democrats think are just too damned stupid to know what’s good for them and shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

  15. Auk Esperanza says:

This is how right-wingers play the game whenever a Democratic president holds office. They immediately and permanently ignore the actual presidential election (in this case, the one where Obama crushed McCain electorally and swept him resoundingly in the popular vote) and instead focus on any victory they can grab in state races, congressional races, gubernatorial races, etc. for the next four years.

According to this narrative framing, any two bit congressional sideshow that happens to go their way somehow becomes a definitive referendum on the presidency, and the actual referendum (which we called the “presidential race of 2008″) somehow magically never took place.

Of course, since the Democrats have the message discipline and fighting spirit of a sleeping toddler, they keep getting away with it.

  16. timmy says:

Did Obama quote credible statistics to counter Republican ideas? Did the republicans offer any credible statistics of their own? Is it possible to use the best from both? Are there any credible comparisons between the auto insurance and the health care insurance industries – rates and profits? What took everybody so goddamn long to discuss substance instead of “socialist death panels”?

  17. Burn says:

Wow, so shocking. Leslie Blitzer and David Gergen praise Republicans. So what? Is that different than any other day of the week? Yea, sure, CNN is like totally liberal and stuff, you know…

And two douchebags at Fox News praise Republicans…damn, I NEVER saw that one coming…never in a million years! Because Fox is fair and balanced because they have both types of music, Country and Western.

  18. Jen7 says:

Yes, it’s great that Obama let the Republicans show that their plan would cover 27 million LESS American’s as opposed to the Democratic party plan. It’s also wonderful that Obama let the Republicans show they are COMPLETELY without FACTS.

    You rock, Republicans!

  19. Bruce Henry says:

All these substantive ideas the Republicans allegedly have could have been implemented in, say, 2001-2007 if they were truly interested in reform. They’re not. They’re interested in delay and obstruction.

  20. calling all toasters says:

Harhar, Republicans ‘won’ by being ‘smart’! They showed that Obama favors death panels and a government takeover, then, didn’t they? Because that’s what they’ve been telling the testicle heads. So if they won, those are the points they must have made.

  21. Rudy says:

Where were all these cries for bipartisanship and inclusion when they controlled all branches of government for 7 years?

  22. Usually you guys don’t link directly to the talking points. Heh. AB Stoddard didn’t like something Dems did? OH NOES.

  23. SaveFarris says:

    Don’t you mean 2003-2007?

    Thank you, Sen. Jeffords!

PS: on a related note, how idiotic does Arlen Spector look now?

  24. TSM says:

The President came across as looking very petty today, especially at this point. McCain was right? Why can’t Obama respond to the under the table deal with the Pharma’s? The payoffs to the Senators from Nebraska and Louisiana? The broken campaign promises surrounding healthcare (CSPAN to name one)? IN the country’s eyes today, the Republicans made great strides today. At the end of the day the irrefutable fact…..64% of American doesn’t want this bill that he is trying to shove down our throats. Is that so hard for The Hill to understand?

  25. Dave in SoCal says:

And just how stupid did Obama look with his “evil ACME car insurance” anecdote? After someone rear-ended him, he called “ACME” and asked them to repair the damage to his car, and the cruel evil insurance company only laughed at him. What’s so ridiculous about this story, you may ask? He admitted that he only had insurance to “meet the legal requirements”. This is what is commonly known as liability insurance. It only covers the damage you do to OTHERS. What Obama needed was collision insurance, which would have covered damage to HIS car. If he called ACME and asked them to fix his car when he only had the cheapo basic liability insurance, it’s no surprise they laughed at him. Most grown ups are expected to have a basic understanding of what their insurance policies actually cover.

And incidentally, if someone rear-ended Obama, then THEY are at fault and he should be calling THEIR insurance company, not his own. Duh.

This is all generally common knowledge among the illiterate, mouth-breathing redneck car-owning population in flyover country. Apparently the Harvard-educated community-organizing intelligentsia only concern themselves with weightier matters.

  26. Dave in SoCal says:

Behold Rep. Paul Ryan drinking deep from Obama’s milkshake:

Paul Ryan: Hiding Spending Doesn’t Reduce Spending

In a little under six minutes, in simple, clear and concise terms he exposed Obama’s “deficit-neutral” and “bend the cost curve down” claims as absolute bullshit and explained what the real costs and outcome will be. All while sounding completely reasonable and even agreeing with Obama that we do have to do something to get coverage to uninsured people… just not through this bill.

  27. Dave in SoCal says:

Peevish Obama: “John, we’re not campaigning any more. The election’s over”.

    Pot, meet kettle.

The consensus among American voters is Barack Obama is better at campaigning for the job than at doing the job, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday. In addition, half of voters say the Obama administration doesn’t “get it.”

As the president’s approval rating remains in the high forties, the poll finds that voters by a wide 62 to 17 percent margin think Obama is better at campaigning than at governing.

It isn’t surprising most Republicans feel this way (83 percent). What may surprise the White House is that nearly seven out of 10 independents say they feel the president is better at campaigning than governing, and so do more Democrats (albeit by a thin 6 percentage-point edge). More than one out of five Democrats was unable to choose between campaigning and governing and volunteered a “both” response (22 percent).

And yes, I fully expect the usual “But it’s a Faux Newz poll, so it’s obviously made up and can be completely discounted as 100% nonfactual” claims from this crowd.

  28. jrfunkenstein says:

‘He’s right: the election is over. And he lost. In Virginia. In New Jersey. In Massachusettes! And coming soon in November, 50-75 House Districts near you!’

So losing a few states but winning the Presidency is a failed endeavor to you?

    Time to up your meds.

  29. Dave in SoCal says:

I think you’re confusing “credible statistics” with “anecdotes”, which is what the Democrats mostly presented.

  30. jrfunkenstein says:

‘And yes, I fully expect the usual “But it’s a Faux Newz poll, so it’s obviously made up and can be completely discounted as 100% nonfactual” claims from this crowd.’

Then why the fuck do you bother posting such utter crap?

  31. Indeed says:

So totally true! As your stat-filled comment proves beyond a shadow of a doubt a 99.999999% confidence interval.

  32. Dave in SoCal says:

Because despite everyone here bleating that anything with the taint of “Faux Newz” on it must be fake, it doesn’t mean it is.

  33. Dave in SoCal says:

They were coming from the left at the time.

  34. Dave in SoCal says:

As do 95% percent of the posts here. Your point?

  35. timmy says:

    You got nothing.

  36. timmy says:

    1. He’s a big step up from Bush.
    2. You got nothing.

  37. SFC B says:

I think there’s something wrong with my browser. I keep refreshing it but it brings up a post Mr. Willis wrote in 2008. It makes a reference to There Will be Blood and Obama and McCain debating each other. Is there a cookie I need to delete or something?

  38. Rudy says:

Which is why it rings insincere when the Republicans do it.

  39. lap dog says:

I just saw the July 21, 2009 post of, “More Entertaining Than YOUR Local Council Meeting,” on this site.

    I think Barack’s re-enactment was spectacular. Bravo!

  40. jrfunkenstein says:

The only thing you prove is that a FOX news poll is about as valid and credible as having Sarah Palin pretend to an ‘analyst’ for anything other than the Home Shopping Network.

    What’s that? She’s a FOX analyst?

The jokes continue to write themselves; on her hand of all places.

  41. Dennis says:

Pretty much the only people he’s got on his side no matter how much and how often he tries to sell this piece of dog crap, Donna.

  42. Quaker in a Basement says:

Oh you’re right about the smell. You’re just wrong about where it’s coming from. Mr. Ryan is talking absolute nonsense.
