John McCain: My Primary Opponent Is A Birther!

Oh sweet lord, grab the popcorn. Of course, McCain’s problem is that birthers are a strong part of the GOP base that votes in primaries. This may help J.D. Hayworth more than anything. (via)

  1. jr says:

AZ gets to pick between a birther and a guy who voted against making MLK’s birthday a national holiday. The GOP isn’t racist though

  2. d.walker says:

I actually like the ad. Was a little afraid Mccain was going to try to out crazy the whack job.

  3. If it wouldn’t bore me to tears, I would love to hear jr explain how not voting for Dr Martin Luther King’s birthday to be a holiday, makes one a racist. Then, for laughs, he might explain how doubting that the President was born in the United States makes one a racist.

Or is it simply summed up in “If jr says you’re a racist, you’re a racist.”

BTW, however mistaken or kooky the people might be who firmly believe that Pres Obama was not born in the United States, the last I heard doubt was not a crime.

Clown on clown violence is always so sad and hilarious.

“BTW, however mistaken or kooky the people might be who firmly believe that Pres Obama was not born in the United States, the last I heard doubt was not a crime.”

A non qualifying statement on Frank’s part followed by a “leave those poor doubters alone” plea. People can doubt the weather report and not get mocked, but this is demonstrably true.

Nor is anyone suggesting that it is. In this case, however, it is extremely stupid. Much like moon-landing hoaxers, Holocaust deniers, creationists, etc., the birthers don’t deserve any respect. Instead, they should be mocked and laughed at whenever possible.

  7. MrGreyGhost says:

No mention that it was the Left who started the Birther nonsense in the first place. Just a footnote. Unimportant.

  8. Marco says:

It’s because we already know a PUMA started it and the tea baggers ran with it. Fitting, actually.

  9. mambochicken23 says:

Liberal Democrats who think that Obama wasn’t born in this country are just as stupid as the conservative Republicans. I’m making a safe guess that most in the birther movement are on the right.

The origins of this controversy matter very little in that light. The teabaggers own this now.

  11. Burn says:

I live in AZ and would rather have McCain any day over Hayworth as Senator, as painful as that sounds. There might be a guy down here in Tucson who runs as a Democrat for the seat, but I think he is waiting for these two to mortally wound each other before he jumps into the fray. Why bother doing the dirty work when these two seem perfectly content to do that all by themselves?

  12. Todd says:

If only McCain would have taken a stand against the crazy a year ago when he was picking a vice president :/

Still, I think the Arizona Senate race is the one thing that can actually unite the left and the right – I think everyone (well maybe not Sean Hannity but every sane person) can agree that Hayworth is an idiot.

    From the link:

In the early summer of ’08, message boards on sites like PUMAParty.com began lighting up with the ultimate reversal-of-fortune fantasy—that their party’s nomination could be overturned on constitutional grounds. “Obama May Be Illegal to Be Elected President!” read one representative e-mail: “This came from a USNA [U.S. Naval Academy] alumnus. It’ll be interesting to see how the media handle this…WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL newspaper editors etc. Keep this out there everyday possible. Also write to the DNC too!”

McCain graduated from the Naval Academy in 58.

    Was McCain the original birther?

  14. mambochicken23 says:

    OMG! Are questions… swirling?

  15. Jaim says:

McCain has burned through whatever shreds of dignity he had remaining after picking an embarrasment like Palin to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

  16. Stanislaw says:

No one is saying that doubt is a crime. One of the best things about this country is that people have the freedom to be believe in whatever stupid nonsense they choose to, even if there is absolutely no evidence to support that belief. Another great thing about this country is that people have the right to insult, demean, criticize, and ridicule people who believe in stupid nonsense despite a complete lack of evidence to support their beliefs.

In other words, birthers have the right to be stupid, knuckle-dragging, tinfoil hat-wearing racists and the rest of us have the right to make fun of them for being stupid, knuckle-dragging, tinfoil hat-wearing racists.

  17. Bitter Scribe says:

Any idea whom McCain will face in the general election? Is the Democratic nomination pretty much up for grabs?

  18. Jeff says:

JD is the one to be worried about! The guy has a reputation in Congress of a big spender, big boozer, biggest blowhard and the dumbest member! Not who we need!

  19. Cindy says:

There is no way McCain loses his seat. The very few issues some have with him are so trivial compared to the blowhard JD who has more skeletons in his closet then we can count. Washington needs NO more corruption JD!

  20. Oscar says:

As an Arizona voter, I hope that people don’t fall victim to JD. When his office, JD was a a lame politican. He lost a bullet proof re-election campaign and there was a reason. He talks like a conservative but he was a Big Spender in Congress.
