White House Writing Health Care Bill To Be Passed Via Reconciliation

9:18 am EST February 19th, 2010 | News | 24 Comments

It must be asked: WTF took them so long? And it should be noted to Harry Reid & Speaker Pelosi: PASS THIS NOW.

Democratic officials said the president’s proposal was being written so that it could be attached to a budget bill as a way of averting a Republican filibuster in the Senate. The procedure, known as budget reconciliation, would let Democrats advance the bill with a simple majority rather than a 60-vote supermajority.

What this is in a how-to presentation, for those with the interest.

  2. SaveFarris says:

Pelosi’s already lost two votes (Wexler, Murtha) and in all probability a third (Cao). That means she only has one vote to spare. And that’s before the Stupak-pak agrees to go along with the White House bill.

How ironic would it be if, after all this, it’s the House that becomes the ultimate stumbling block?

Black conservatives are the best to know about this movement since they have struggled in so many ways over the years. They understand that big government and entitlements not only hurt them but hurt everyone by making themselves slaves to big government. It won’t happen with these people. They are true Americans and true conservatives. They don’t need anyone to tell them how to lead their own lives. As a Tea Party member myself I am glad to join ranks with black conservatives to fight this socialist. big government and to keep our Constitution safe from these Progressive morons!

Some progressive here enlighten me re: procedures. I thought the Senate was building momentum to create a bill that included the public option and pass it via reconciliation. Could an Obama bill that DIDN’T include the p.o. confuse matters? Or is this more a matter of multiple routes toward the same end, we’ll-get-something-passed-one-way-or-the-other kinda thing?

  5. jr says:

Pass it. Enough with the Mike Hargrove-esque human rain delay

  6. Repack Rider says:

As a former Army medic I know that anyone who claims that the US government can’t deliver quality health care is not only a despicable liar, but is insulting me and everyone else who ever served in a military medical capacity. Army medics and Navy corpsmen deliver quality health care, often WHILE PEOPLE ARE SHOOTING AT THEM.

Give me some of that socialized medicine, Obamacare, or whatever you want to call it. Raise taxes on the rich to maybe two thirds what they were when Eisenhower was president and the country didn’t collapse from everyone freaking out and going Galt. I’ll happily turn over to the government the $700/mo I already pay to a company that hires people to find ways not to honor my claim, and would cut me off if they found out that I had a hangnail 20 years ago. Even at $700/mo, I’m one of the lucky ones, since I have never had to test my coverage by seeing a physician at any time during the last 30 years.

Government run health care repaired the hole in my heart that I was born with. Good thing my dad was in the Army.
The doctors were Army and Air force, BTW.

  8. mambochicken23 says:

Seriously, Oliver, if anyone should be banned it’s this guy. He keeps cutting and pasting the same spam links into a number of threads, most of the time without any relevance to the topic at hand.

  9. Luv says:

Don’t you dare use service in the military as some shield from criticism. Jerk. The tired, “if you criticize THIS you criticize the brave men and women of the military.” card is soooo 2008.

  10. Luv says:

Also, jerk, the issue isn’t the QUALITY of the healthcare, it’s the ACCESS. But continue to put up your straw men.

  11. AwkwardSilence says:

Since neither quality nor access are addressed directly in the article itself, are you honestly suggesting that nobody is criticizing the quality of government run healthcare, jerk? Off the top of my head, I googled “Heritage Foundation + quality + government healthcare” (if anyone’s going to bitch, they’re a lay-up) and boy, does it return a bunch of links, jerk.

Noooooooooot much of a straw man, jerk.

But, anyhow, let’s look at his claim, jerk:
As a former Army medic I know that anyone who claims that the US government can’t deliver quality health care….

Gee, jerk, let’s look at the replay. He was clearly speaking to:
anyone who claims that the US government can’t deliver quality health care.

To you, jerk, the issue may be access. To others- who I can assure you exist- it’s quality. He was deliberately and incontrovertibly addressing them, jerk.

So, jerk, a little reading comprehension could have saved you and your high horse a trip.

    Thanks for playing, jerk.

  12. Luv says:

You can toss around jerk all you want, but right-wing trolls are never going to win this debate.

So you can type jerk a million times going for your internet-coolness-badge, it won’t change a thing.

Using the military as a shield is a tired, lazy and lame tactic and I’m sick of it, jerk.

  13. AwkwardSilence says:

Yeah … only he’s not a right wing troll.

You may want to re-read his message and interpret it sincerely.

Based on your response, I thought you were a right wing troll.

    Non-jerk.

  14. Scooter says:

Yeah that one confused the heck out of me too. In the hell that is the “Health Care Debate” war of words, we just had a classic case of friendly fire.
Oh well. It helped me decide on what to cook for dinner tonight. Jerk chicken and rice.

  15. wiz says:

    ditto!
    who?…what?…huhhh??

Friendly fire, stand down, stand down!!

  16. cj says:

Yea, I was confuse there for a moment too. The health-care debate war is dirty. lol

  17. Jaim says:

    Like I said, cautiously optimistic.

And going from 60 to 59 Senators might just have been a reason to celebrate.

  18. Dave in SoCal says:

At least we finally have confirmation that the “Bipartisan” Health Care Reform summit scheduled for next week is a sham and that Obama intended all along to go with the existing legislation no matter what the GOP said or did.

Not that anyone here has the honesty to admit it.

  19. Zython says:

At least we finally have confirmation that the “Bipartisan” desires of the GOD are a sham and that the Republicans intended all along to railroad the existing legislation no matter what Obama said or did.

Not that anyone here has the honesty to admit it.

Fixed a few typos for you, Dave.

  20. Sean D. Martin says:

Typical. The Repubs refuse to engage in any bipartisan efforts and when the Dems finally start to say “OK, we’ll go ahead without you” honesty-challenged folks like Dave claim it’s the Dems that “clearly” are not willing to be bipartisan.

  21. Dennis says:

Friendly fire like when Larry, Moe and Curly run around and knock each other in the head.

  22. Randy Brown says:

    N—a, please!

  23. Wilbur says:

Now now, you’ve gotta look at it from their point of view. The republicans have graciously refrained from calling for debtors prisons for those who can’t pay their medical bills. They view that as a huge concession to the democrats.

  24. Scooter says:

No the Stooges usually knock each other in the head on purpose. They’re not hitting each other trying to get to Vernon Dent.

Its more like when the giant boulder being shot off the Acme catapult aimed at The Roadrunner ends up landing on Wile E. Coyote.

Or when Jason Mattera inadvertently frogs Glenn Beck when he talks about snorting cocaine not being conservatives notion of freedom.
