Redskins Keeping Jason Campbell?

9:14 pm EST February 18th, 2010 | Sports | 11 Comments

As I’ve previously noted, I think Campbell’s best days in burgundy & gold are past him. He doesn’t – in my eyes – have the leadership skills needed to take himself and the team to an even adequate level, let alone a winning, playoff-caliber team. That being said, Mike Shanahan is the one making the call:

I caught up with Campbell via phone Thursday and asked him about his initial impressions of Shanahan. The two sat down in Shanahan’s office and talked about the organization’s future. But what about Campbell’s future?

‘The plan is that I’m going to be here,’ said Campbell. ‘[Shanahan] told me that he liked how I’d handled everything over the past couple of years and the whole conversation was real positive. But we really didn’t talk much about the past. When a team goes 4-12, most of the bad publicity goes to the quarterback. But I was still able to put up one of my best seasons despite all the turmoil.’

I think the Redskins should draft a QB, but NOT in the first round at #4 (they should pick an offensive lineman) and NOT Tim Tebow. I’m hinky on Sam Bradford as well.

Hello Michael Vick. (In jest of course.)

Shanahan made Jay Cutler look great so maybe he can work wonders with Jason

this post makes absolutely no sense. how can oliver say that “Campbell’s best days in burgundy & gold are past him” when campbell has posted improved statistics each of the past 4 seasons? If oliver is suggesting that the redskins don’t resign campbell and don’t draft a QB in the 1st round, what is the team supposed to do for a QB in the 2010 season?

http://www.draftcountdown.com has the Skins taking Clausen at No. 4, not Russell Okung. For the sake of Washington fans I hope not. I just have this feeling Clausen is going to be an awful pro. If they do take a QB Bradford is a better choice.

I don’t think any QB in this year’s draft merits $20-25 million in guaranteed money, and definitely not that weird munchkin from South Bend. As for Oliver’s souring on the current QB, that’s certainly his prerogative, but it’s not like the franchise has really been stable nor the coaching good during that time period.

  6. Stats are only part of the story. The record is another part, and I don’t think any NFL defense is afraid of Campbell. I think the Skins should get someone in free agency, or get a rookie in the 2nd or later rounds of the draft and start them.

Campbell is fine. There are no great QBs to be had this year.
Use the draft picks on linemen.

Your response makes even less sense. what does campbell’s production have to do with the redskins’ record? he’s a good QB on a bad team. besides, THERE ARE NO FREE AGENT QUARTERBACKS AVAILABLE for the 2010 unless you really think kyle boller, david carr, chad penninton, or charlie batch are better options. beyond that, if you really think it’s a good idea to draft a QB in the 2nd round or later and then throw that QB into the starting line up, all i can say is that you clearly don’t know anything about professional football.

Neither does Cutler, Orton, Cassel, Leinart, etc., etc. Moron.
