SCOTUS May Save (Some) Dems
Tweet
With rumors rumbling of a Supreme Court nomination or two coming up, it might pull Democratic senate bacon out of the fire. Generally Dems (like me) are displeased with the performance of the majority so far, as over 58 votes (and often 60) seem to not be enough to do what the GOP was able to accomplish for their screwy agenda with far smaller majorities. I won’t shed a tear for the loss of people like Harry Reid and Evan Bayh, whose votes were basically Republican ones as far as effective progressive legislation goes.
Progressive voters may at least turn out to protect the court from more Scalias and Alitos (and Robertses for that mtter). I would of course still prefer a Democratic majority (I think that will still be the case post-election) but if that means a smaller, more progressive majority led by someone like Schumer or Durbin that can actually get things done – all the better.

Doesn’t solve the filibuster problem.
Perhaps a real thing to work towards is boosting the ground game. Going door to door and really connecting with folks should be the real focus; not hoping for the right mixture of Senators and Congressmen to come out of the woodwork.
It’s a great theory about getting dems to the polls. But it hasn’t worked in the past. It was repeatedly pointed out in 2000 and 2004 that the balance of SCOTUS was in jeopardy but we still ended up with the worst freakin president in the history of the world. And he in turn gave us Roberts and Alito, thus showing us once again that the right wing hates the USA.
