congrats, you're a douchebagComedian James Urbaniak tweeted a joke about Sarah Palin, and the Daily Show used a similar joke.

At 12:04pm, Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller accuses Jon Stewart of “lifting” the joke.

At about 2pm, Urbaniak makes clear that the incident was a case of parallel thinking from the Daily Show staff (Seriously, like TDS needs to lift jokes about Sarah effing Palin? I can make jokes about Palin and I’m an amateur)

Gawker, the source of the Caller’s story, posted an update.

Yet 8 hours later, Instapundit just regurgitates the Caller’s flawed story.

This isn’t a fluke, folks, this is how they operate.

  1. Repack Rider says:

How dumb do you have to be to want Jon Stewart pissed at you?

  2. Jaim says:

Hehe. DailyCaller can only get hits by generating fake controversies now. Not surprising.

  3. Pete says:

Hey, Glenn’s not making an accusation… he’s JUST ASKING. (See also, “Stop Holding Me Accountable: Why Linking isn’t an Endorsement, Vols. 1 – 24,675,425.”)

  4. Rheinhard says:

So Pete, what you’re saying is that Instacracker is just using a “Cavuto mark”?

  5. Enlightened Liberal says:

And for years whenever a con wants to discredit Jon Stewart they will use this talking point.

  6. Dennis says:

Jim Treacher is out of the hospital now, Oliver, just fyi. I’m sure Eric Boehlert was at Georgetown Hospital getting the scoop on the big Secret Service vs. State Department SUV conspiracy theory he’s working on.

I wonder how many junior employees at M/M he’s got working on that story right now.

    • Burn says:

Damn, you’re dead on! I mean we all know Secret Service vans go blazing around the streets of DC, running over people who have written things critical of Obama. That was the first directive given to the agents because they know just how much of a threat some pissant idiot wingnut blogger is to the POTUS. They followed him around the whole day, waiting for the moment to strike.

      We surround them!

      • Dennis says:

Except that a grand total of exactly zero people made that accusation, Burn.

Other than that, you’re spot-on with Boehlert’s accusation.

  7. Here’s the only upside, but it’s unlikely. Maybe more people will watch The Venture Brothers, which is James Urbaniak’s main source of income. It’s the been the best cartoon on TV during its entire run.

  8. I’m a connecting thread between Oliver Willis, Glenn Reynolds and the Daily Caller? This is a great day for a political blog junkie like myself. BTW, I’m not really a comedian, I’m just an actor who tweets jokes occasionally.

Contessa Brewer: Record snow and cold proves global warming?

Big day here. Famous comedian posts comment here and now the thumbs up from Contessa Brewer.

    Wowzers.

      Who?

    • abanterer says:

First off, James Urbaniak has already stated he’s an actor and not a comedian. It’s perhaps a subtle difference, but it’s there.

Secondly, if I hear one more ‘Gosh, it’s snowing real bad in the North East. I guess global warming is a hoax, yuk yuk.”, I will send a plague of blood drinking wasps into Fox Studios. Vancouver is having it’s warmest winter in decades, and the lack of snow is impacting the Winter Olympics. But it’s only Canada, right?

      • Dennis says:

Wait, abanterer, isn’t Vancouver pretty close to a large body of water?

        • abanterer says:

Sure. Depending on what sort of detail you’re looking for, it’s by a few. At minimum, the Pacific is right there. There’s the Strait of Georgia, a bunch of rivers, like the Fraser and I have no idea how many lakes. So, yeah – lots of water nearby.

          • timmy says:

Puget sound + Willamette valley had a warmest ever week by a large margin last summer. But this is irrelevant. Conservatives usually try to pull the debate away from economic impacts and effectiveness of mandates to “Lookit da snow!”
