Wish I Cared

Congrats to the Caps for winning 11 straight games, which is apparently some kind of DC area sports record. In most other sane sports towns that would be the top sports story around, but I bet overall there will be more chatter about what Clinton Portis plans to do with the Redskins.

Nobody is more guilty of that than me, and I will state plainly: Portis needs to move on. The Caps play hockey, right? :)

I won’t try to convert you but hockey is a great sport. Its probably one in which it can really only be enjoyed live. TV just cannot capture it. But like everything else sports-related – if you didn’t grow up with it it is hard to get a real feel for it.

The Caps are a great team and their owner and management puts every other team here to shame. Leonsis actually talks to fans. He answers e-mails (he’s answered mine), he is ressponsive to fan input and he lets his management take care of the hockey end. They’ve built a team from scratch and they are likely the best team in the NHL. They certainly have the best player.

They can’t get rid of Portis; he makes too much money. Which means that Campbell is most likely to be let go.

Teams like the Caps and Penguins are a joke…they tanked for years to get good draft picks….screw them.

    Enjoy the short term glory.

seriously, screw the capitals for rebuilding.

Ovechkin is fun to watch. Brought me back to following the Caps.

And given a choice between a Skins game, an Orioles game, or a Caps game, the Caps game would be the most fun.

(I like to pretend the Nationals don’t exist.)

  6. Mario says:

there is rebuilding…and then there is tanking to get top picks.

The Caps tanked…enjoy the short term glory…they will be playing to an empty arena soon enough.

Maybe in your market, but the CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada is an institution and is the best sports broadcast around, starting with radio in 1931 and television broadcasting in 1952.

‘They’ve built a team from scratch and they are likely the best team in the NHL. They certainly have the best player.’

Yeah, the Penguins might have an argument with you about that; they are the defending Cup Champions by the way.

‘They certainly have the best player.’

Ever hear of Sidney Crosby? Youngest ever player to Captain a Stanley Cup winning team?

Ovechkin is great, but he’s a dick and his endless attempts to take guys out knee on knee hasn’t won him any friends; he’s a marked man for the upcoming Olympic tourney in Vancouver, and I wont shed a tear if he gets his head knocked off.

Both team have been contenders for years, the Penguins have won 4 cups, the most recent last year.

‘(I like to pretend the Nationals don’t exist.)’

That funny, because that’s the way they play as well.

  10. Mario says:

Both teams were playing in half empty arenas until they tanked to get stars in the lotto draft….pens were so bad they were going to leave pitts…until the nhl held a behind closed doors lottery to determine the # 1 pick…a joke….teams that tank go against everything sports is supposed to stand for.

Again enjoy the short term glory.

so you’re saying the capitals would be much better off without ovechkin
