Conservatives Upset At Chris Matthews Comparison

8:53 pm EST February 1st, 2010 | Media | 17 Comments

They’re angry that Matthews compared them to the Khmer Rouge. But of course, they’ve done the same and worse to President Obama for about 2 years now, and ditto to people like Sen. Kerry, Vice President Gore, President Clinton, and Secretary Clinton.

Further, I wish I could call a moratorium on conservatives pointing to Chris Matthews as some kind of arbiter of liberalism. Matthews is a power-humper. He worked for a Democrat, but that didn’t stop him slobbering for years over Republicans like McCain and Bush and Giuliani. He’s got a track record a mile long on being first in line to sniff the jock of whoever the big man on campus is.

So Obama is a Socialist/Communist/Fascist/Muslim/terrorist determined to destroy the very fabric of American society, but how dare Chris Matthews imply that those hurling these kinds of specious accusations around are anything but patriotic ‘real’ Americans.

    The horror; the horror.

  2. Athenae says:

    Matthews is a power-humper.

Or as we called them at the paper, a starfucker.

    A.

  3. Amused Observer says:

Well let’s see, the Khmer Rouge killed roughly 2 million Cambodians after we retreated from Nam.

Obama has pushed the public ownership of the means of production, GM, that would be socialism. Government control of private industry, healthcare is looking very much like this definition of fascism:

Fascism is a system in which the government leaves nominal ownership of the means of production in the hands of private individuals but exercises control by means of regulatory legislation and reaps most of the profit by means of heavy taxation. In effect, fascism is simply a more subtle form of government ownership than is socialism.

    Following Oliver’s link
Throughout Obama’s administration thus far, conservative media have embraced such rhetoric, routinely attacking Obama’s agenda as socialist, communist or fascist and telling audiences that Obama and health care reform are a threat to America itself.

Given the unprecedented deficits Obama favors it is quite plausible that we will be saddled with both inflation and crippling debt which will constrain everything we do. I’d call that a threat to America itself.

“They’re angry that Matthews compared them to the Khmer Rouge. But of course, they’ve done the same and worse to President Obama for about 2 years now”

So I guess Oliver has a point, labeling Obama’s policies that push for greater gov’t. control and an expansion of the welfare state coupled with gov’t. ownership of the means of production as socialism and fascism and being concerned over unprecedented crippling debt is just like committing genocide.

You would think it would be hard to come up with statements that make Jonah Goldberg’s clownish drivel sound sagacious, but Oliver’s trolls prove time and again that they’re up to the challenge!

  5. Leota2 says:

It’s funny that you forgot that your compatriots also call Obama a Nazi and a terrorist AO–
Let’s face it — you know those are the ones they really howl about (with pictures and drawings)!
You need to include them in your dissertation of Obama’s “agenda.”
    Also–kudos on the Wiki definitions.

  6. Amused Observer says:

    Leota,
    Obama’s no nazi!
Wiki is the easiest place for generalized information broader than it is deep. Good enough for a site where the average commentator is naive at best, liberal, and will most likely reach an unchanged conclusion regardless of the evidence put before them.

  7. I hate the “they did it first” argument. Comparing zealous people to murderous regimes is excessive. Therefore, Chris Matthews is excessive.

“the Khmer Rouge killed roughly 2 million Cambodians after we retreated from Nam”

The US bombed the shit out of Cambodia as well.

  9. Amused Observer says:

    Good point Jaim,

Opposing Obama’s unprecedented deficits and government encroachment on our economy and liberty is just like bombing the shit out of the VC hiding in Cambodia. The Cambodian commies were just a bunch of real nice guys as the genocide that followed our Viet Nam cut and run inspired by the left has shown us.

  10. timmy says:

Chill, man. These are temporary measures. When the economy is more stable GM should be off its crutches. If not, you can commence your “socialism!!” conspiracy theory. And be taken more seriously.

  11. timmy says:

    You said it, I didn’t.

  12. Rheinhard says:

So, does anybody here have the slightest idea what the holy fuck AO is even talking about at this point? His screeds have degenerated into more or less random Sarah Palin-esque word salads (except with more Nazi Communists and less Freedom Jesus)…

Really, it’s time to get back on those meds Amused…

  13. Amused Observer says:

    Rheinhard,
Your short term memory problems are stating to impact your ability to function. Not that important here, ignorance masks your cognitive failures. Try staying away from excessive liquor and marijuana.

  14. Jaim says:

“bombing the shit out of the VC hiding in Cambodia”

If you knew any Cambodians they could tell you what a stupid statement this is.

  15. abanterer says:

I agree. The definition is incredibly vague and can apply anywhere in the political spectrum. Moreover, it leaves out anything distinguishing fascism outside of the economics, such as political organization, goals, and rhetoric.

  17. Quaker in a Basement says:

    “Unprecedented” deficits?

I heartily disagree. There is precedent–very recent precedent–for the budget deficit Mr. Obama proposes.
