Nancy Pelosi Has Balls

I’ve got a lot of problems with Nancy Pelosi’s style and way of dealing with the press, but she gets stuff done – which was a meta-message of President Obama’s state of the union and a pretty strong indictment of the dysfunctional senate.

    I had a hard time getting over her failure to impeach Bush and become President in 2007, but it’s true, she only slows down her butt-kicking to make sure all the names are spelled right.

    Maybe so, but for today at least they pale to insignificance compared to Obama’s brass ones for going into the proverbial lion’s den, the House Republican conference, and beating down their talking points for an hour on live TV. I am looking forward to watching this in its entirety tonight on C-SPAN.

    And hey Rethugs – he did it without the teleprompter you claim he requires as a crutch!

    And I agree with Kos: Since we’re supposed to believe Sarah Palin is smarter, folksier, and awesomer than the Kenyan usurper, I’d loooove to see her do this in front of the Democratic caucus. Or just a set of informed liberal bloggers. Or hell, anyone who wasn’t a prescreened wingnut sycophant!

    President Obama points just went up for me. The Republicans had it coming for the way they’ve been acting….oh for decades. Add some extra points in my book for President Obama for having it televised.

    Now if we can get Nancy Pelosi to do a similar televised version of the smack down President Obama gave, but with Blue Dogs maybe they will get in line with the rest of the Democratic Party and pass health care.

    Oliver, I’m curious what your issues with Pelosi are. She takes a lot of baseless, misogynistic crap from the GOP, but IMO she’s done a good, maybe even excellent job.

    And it’s becoming clear that if we get an HCR bill she’ll deserve a hell of a lot more credit for it than the Obama/Emmanuel/Lieberman bloc.

    I find Pelosi to not be intellectually curious enough, especially for someone in her position. Her way of relating to the media almost always comes across very awkward, and I often think the insulation of being in San Francisco politics comes through.

    That said, I think she’s doing a great job in the House and getting things done – unlike Harry Reid.

    I’d make the argument that the job of Speaker of the House isn’t to be intellectually curious, but to get 218 votes on important legislation. She’s really good at that.
