Damn, Obama, should have brought out that bucket of fried chicken. WTF, moron.
UPDATE: Matthews clarifies. Sort of. But god, just shut it.

Jeez.
Is there a pill that Mathews should be taking for this sporadic idiocy?
Yep, that was pretty frickin stupid. On the other hand I thought what he said about the party of No sitting on their kiesters and giggling in the middle of a recession was pretty spot-on.
Matthews gets paid 100k a week for these insights
What’s the big deal? Clearly Matthews was just channeling Harry “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” Reid. Chrissy reminds folks that he’s a Dem (therefore he can’t be “RACIST!”), calls Al Sharpton to apologize and this will blow right on over.

Really? How do you figure?
Chrissy reminds folks that he’s a Dem (therefore he can’t be “RACIST!”), calls Al Sharpton to apologize and this will blow right on over.
‘xactly.
Now try to tell me that if Glenn Beck did this, the reaction would be exactly the same…
if Glenn Beck did this, the reaction would be exactly the same…
The only difference is that Matthews claims to be a fan of Obama, and then says moronic racist shit of the sort we EXPECT from Beck.
But both of them are morons, so we agree on that.
Now try to tell me that if Glenn Beck did this, the reaction would be exactly the same…
No, it wouldn’t be, nor should it. Beck has priors.
Actually I think that Matthews in a clumsy way was trying to elevate his racial discourse. He just finished participating in the Town-hall Meeting on race with Tom Joyner aired from Texas A&M, on MSNBC. During the discussion there was an emphasis placed on whether or not racism was still a relevant topic. The Town-hall hosted an array of professors and African American scholars pointing out that by not mentioning or ignoring the racial identity of Black people and White folks being RRREEEAAAALLLLY uncomfortable with talking about race in general wast he proverbial “elephant in the room,” And generally the panel felt that the notion of “colorblind society” at this time was disingenuous. I believe that Matthews took the comments from the Town-hall to heart, and felt compelled to incorporate his “ah ha!” moment into the discussion in an effort to present that he did learn something from his participation. So Oliver, in this case I think we can put the chicken in the fridge for a later occasion. We’ll get a chance to nibble before it spoils.
Disingenuine, Repack. When Chris Matthews gets in a few good shots and talks completely over a Republican guest on his show, your Kos buddies and the rest of the nutroots cackle and cheer for him and forget you ever called him a moron.
At the end of that clip Keith Olbermann is laughing at Matthews’ reference to the Godfather movie in which he says that for Republicans, ‘sometimes the smart move gets you killed’. If Bill O’Reilly had said something like that about Democrats, Olbermann would devote a 10 minute special comment about it accusing O’Reilly of sending signals for someone to go out and kill one of them, even if O’Reilly had said it in jest or in passing as Matthews did there. Instead, Olbermann thinks what Matthews said was hilarious.
Other than when John Edwards manages to get on the tube for an interview, Olbermann is the biggest phony on TV, period.
Chris is always like that. BLAH BLAH BLAH *insightful comment or good interview* BLAH BLAH BLAH *wtf comment* BLAH BLAH BLAH
Bullshit, Wilbur. No priors ever has anything to do with it when a conservative says something that you guys are 100% sure was motivated by racial hatred when a conservative says it.
Harry Reid had priors and he was given a complete pass here for a comment a lot more bone-headed than Matthews’.
It might make sense in theory, but coming from one of you guys, it doesn’t.
No priors ever has anything to do with it when a conservative says something that you guys are 100% sure was motivated by racial hatred when a conservative says it.
Bullpucky. Folks like Beck have a long list of priors, and in general, when you adhere to a political philosophy that in the past has opposed ending slavery, desegregation, affirmative action, etc., that constitutes an overweight elephant of a “prior” in itself.
Seriously, Dennis, the twelfth time your kid engages in abstract expressionism on your freshly painted wall with his crayola, do you dole out the same amount of punishment as when he did it the first time?

Racial hatred has nothing to do with it. Racism isn’t just about hatred. Of course, lots of people want to pretend it is – that makes it easier for them to dismiss blatant racism when they see it. “But he doesn’t *hate* black people! How can he be racist if he doesn’t hate?”
What Matthews said shows that he doesn’t expect to see a black man who is intelligent and competent. That’s racism, pure and simple, and he has two choices. He can try to unpack it, and learn from it. Or, he can act like a child who’s been caught doing something wrong, and make excuses and point fingers and ask for sympathy.
Okay? He can act like too many conservatives who say things like “I apologize *if anyone was offended*” and then act like anyone who isn’t satisfied is “playing the race card,” like *he* is the wounded party.
Or, he can say “you know what? I said that. And I’m appalled with myself. And now I have to think about what other unexamined prejudices I have, because it’s obvious that I’ve fallen for the age-old fallacy that you’re not racist if you don’t have hate or malice in your heart.”
did he get a tingle up his leg?
When Chris Matthews gets in a few good shots and talks completely over a Republican guest on his show, your Kos buddies and the rest of the nutroots cackle and cheer for him
Does that happen a lot, Den’? Maybe you have several examples.
Matthews is an idiot and no friend to Democrats. He has always been brutal to the Clintons and savage to Gore. If anyone applauds him, it’s only to encourage his infrequent bouts of lucidity.
[NB - I wrote this on another blog and figured what the hell]
It actually reminded me of an All in the Family episode where Mike, Gloria, Lionel and Edith etc. were playing some truth-or-dare like board game called Group Therapy. In response to a question from the game Lionel indicated that it was Edith, not the liberal Mike, whose consciousness was freest of racial attitudes of any sort. Mike took great offense and could not understand why Lionel did not mention him. He was beyond belief and understanding.Lionel said you always talk about a march, or basketball, or civil rights while your mom just asks me how I am or words to that effect. The scene ended with this:
“Lionel: Every time you see me, the first thing you throw at me are racial problems.
Mike: Well, what am I supposed to talk about, the weather?
Lionel: Why not? We DO have weather, you know.”
In this instance it struck me that Matthews thought he was having an Edith moment but by virtue of the fact that he felt the need to talk about what he wasn’t thinking he was really having a Mike Stivic moment.
Ironic that Matthews has always been and remains a prolix meathead.
Funny I NEVER forget that Chris Matthews is whiter than cocaine.
