A senior White House adviser says evangelist broadcaster Pat Robertson’s remark that Haiti has been ‘cursed’ doesn’t express the spirit of the American people or the president.

Valerie Jarrett said Thursday on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ that Roberston’s statement left her speechless and called it ‘a pretty stunning comment to make.’

…but apparently they don’t have an issue with a GWB helping out. In time of need any help is welcomed but talk about an olive branch extension. Bush doesn’t have the greatest record on Haiti let alone the great city of New Orleans.

  2. dirtyCommie says:

I don’t see that there is anything wrong with asking W for help. True, his record isn’t stellar on Haiti, but as you said, any help is welcome right now.

Shorter Robertson: “They was askin’ for it!”

    • deus ex machina says:

More like: “A lot of n*****s died. Whoopeee!!!”

      • Quaker in a Basement says:

Somewhat longer Robertson: “Pay obesience to MY god or he will cause the earth to magically open and swallow your babies! Shazam!”

  5. deus ex machina says:

Pat Robertson’s idiocy is like an onion of stupid – there are layers upon layers you can peel away.

  6. Betty says:

Taking up the torch of dumb ass statements uttered by his fellow holy huccksters Oral Roberts and the Fat One Jerry Falwell is perhaps a sign he’s about to croak. The Devil takes care of his own for only so long.

  7. merl says:

why isn’t he in hell yet? and why aren’t Christians pissed about this? he’s really making them look bad

  8. White Whale says:

….and many don’t. He doesn’t speak for me as a Christian.

  9. Zython says:

I’m surprised he hasn’t gone out of his way to make their suffering worse yet.

  10. Wiz says:

hmmmm, wonder what level of aid/assistance can we expect the ‘700′ organization will be contributing to the Haitians disaster……

  11. Amused Observer says:

Robertson is adding his riff to the old legend that Haiti had made a deal with the devil for independance. The Haitian revolution’s roots were in the old time voodoo religion. Think community organizers and Rev. Wright, same trip different century. This has been part of Haitian voodoo lore for centuries.

The French couldn’t hold on to their colony but it was mosquitos not the devil that tipped the scale. The French troops were wasted by yellow fever. LOL, better to claim the devil intervened than admit you couldn’t keep the slaves from taking the place over.

Haiti has long been the basketcase of the Caribean, they’re probably the least capable nation in the western hemisphere to deal with this sort of thing. It’s going to be an ugly horrific disaster.

No, the roots of the revolution were in subjugation by an imperialist power.

  12. Zython says:

So you’re claiming that they should’ve followed their divine purpose and stayed good little negro slaves to the French? It’s nice to see you admit that you think that slaves desiring freedom can only be the work of Satan.

Think community organizers and Rev. Wright, same trip different century.

What the hell is this supposed to even mean? Are you claiming that Obama made a deal with the devil to win the election, ignoring everything else that led up to it? Learn to take responsibility for your own mistakes for once.

“Haiti has long been the basketcase of the Caribean, they’re probably the least capable nation in the western hemisphere to deal with this sort of thing.”

200+ years of foreign occupation and resource exploitation kinda stems progress a bit.

  14. Amused Observer says:

    Zython,
Your reading skills don’t serve you very well. All I’m claiming is that Haiti is a basket case and Robertson’s comments are nothing unique to him but are a part and parcel of Haitian legend and lore.

The Haitian revolution was an example of successful (If you count creating the most dysfunctional society in the region as successful) community organization revolving around a religious center. I’m not claiming Obama made a deal with devil but his policies do have a third world appeal. Nothing like an expansion of the welfare state to buy votes and damn the consequences.

How does the “community organizers and Rev. Wright” comment fit in there?

  15. Amused Observer says:

    Quaker,
I know you have actual reading skills, why do you ask a question about something that has already been explained? Why is your question tied to a quote that has nothing to do with the question you ask?

  16. Zython says:

but his policies do have a third world appeal

You have no idea why people voted for him, do you?

  17. Amused Observer says:

    Certainly Zython,
Barry put together a fragile coalition to achieve victory. They had differing reasons, some of which were in opposition to each other.

White liberals voted for him because of misplaced guilt, the expansion of the welfare state and a little old fashioned class warfare. All of that and a desire to surrender the fight against the muslims because 9/11 was all our own fault anyway and maybe we can be like the cool kids in europe.

Blacks naturally wanted the local boy to make good and were counting on an expansion of the welfare state and the further redistribution of wealth to themselves. A sympathetic administration could help continue the legalized discrimination that is the key to eroding a meritocracy.

Other minorities had similar reasons with the substitution of being able to stick it to the man for the homie made good rationale.

Organized laber needed any Democrat to get in to make their play for card check legistlation. It never dawned on them that they might get hosed on healthcare.

The youth vote went to Obama cause they’re young and he’s young, McCain reminded them of the strict Grandfather they had issues with and lastly kids are pretty dumb, and as dumb as they are, they are even more naive.

The all important independant swing vote suffered from Bush fatique and they were tired of the tough job of defending the nation from the muslims who are at war with western civilization. They had no idea Barry was going to nuke the currency with inflationary spending or take over industry after industry.

    That about covers it.

  18. Zython says:

Stupid auto-mod. Let’s try this again.

I suppose that would make sense if you ignore everything that happened over the past 8 years.

But hey, I’m sure it’s easier to blame it on minorities that want to get back at “whitey”.

and lastly kids are pretty dumb,

It’s so refreshing to see someone finally admit to believing this. It is irritating seeing so many social conservatives using “think of the children” to mean that “children are dumb”. It’s good to have proof that this is, in fact, how they really feel.

  19. Southern Quaker says:

Please, let’s not engage the attention-starved, racist old coot known as Amused Observer. You’re giving him exactly what he wants, attention plus the opportunity to spew more of his ignorant, bigoted comments all over OW’s blog.

  20. daniel rotter says:

It’s really too bad that there’s probably no hell for Robertson to go to when he dies.
