mike shanahanThat was quick.

The Denver Post and ESPN are reporting Mike Shanahan has agreed to become the Washington Redskins’ next coach. The newspaper reported on its Web site on Tuesday night that Shanahan will receive a five-year deal from the Redskins, who fired Jim Zorn following a 4-12 season. Shanahan won two Super Bowls in 14 seasons with Denver but was fired a year ago after the Broncos missed the playoffs for the third straight season.

    Yay!

Shanahan must go. (just want to be able to say, “I said it first.”)

  2. Dave von Ebers says:

I am constrained to point out that Mr. Shanahan was born in my home town – Oak Park, Illinois. I don’t know if this bodes well for your Redskins, but there it is. Home of Earnest Hemingway, Frank Lloyd Wright, Edgar Rice Burroughs, David Axelrod, Thomas Lennon and Mike Shanahan.

Not to drop names, or anything.

  3. jr says:

Finally the team stopped bringing knives to gun fights

  4. joaquin says:

Good luck! Shanahan without Elway is nothing. Then again, you have a nothing team now, so…………………………………………

  5. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Bwahahaha! The Mastermind is back!

  6. Parthenon says:

Wow, who sees this working? Who knows, maybe Turner’s figured out that the owners who win are the ones you generally don’t hear from.

  7. IMUnaware says:

too bad it does nothing to solve your owner problem. remember when spurrier was hired? remember when gibbs was hired?

i feel bad for skins fans. they’re in the same kind of hell that oakland fans are in.

  8. Hey, Gibbs made the playoffs twice. We didn’t go all the way but compared to every other post-Gibbs coach, he’s been the best.

  9. John says:

Gibbs was the best, Snider sucks it all! Leave the team alone for a couple of years and maybe then maybe we can do something. The team was torn down then expected to win the super bowl that year! The longest it has even been left alone is 3 and still isnt enough to get things together. We prob would have won a super bowl with Spurrier but we will never know because snider kept his retarded butt in the way all the time! Hiring and firing players every two days. So he loves Shanny so much maybe he will leave him alone long enough to do something. At the least 3 years. Let do it!

  10. jmm says:

Snyder made a total mockery out of the Rooney rule with the long-rumored, and then speedy hiring of Shanahan. Once again proving that he’s a no-class owner.

  11. Todd says:

Having lived in Washington during my college years, I can say that the over-the-top coverage of the Redskins was what I hated most about the town. And I never really understood it. Everybody from Washington is from someplace else. Is it all faux fanaticism? Anyway, here is to hoping that the Redskins suck in perpetuity.

  12. It’s not faux, and the idea everyone is from elsewhere falls by the wayside when you go outside of the political types.
