Superman Vs. Muhammad Ali (By Neal Adams)

Do I really need an excuse to post this picture? I didn’t think so. I actually read this comic eons ago, some pretty silly silver age stuff. But cool anyway.

Can I safely assume that Superman won?
For the sake of our security I offer the following…

Enjoy.
I had this comic as a kid. Spoiler alert! Actually, ALI won the fight, because they fought under a red sun so Superman couldn’t just use his superpowers.
Ali was far prettier than that. Just ask him.
You have not ruined it for me I can assure you. Thanks for the info. Now I can sleep tonight.
Enjoy.
What’s really impressive is that Muhammed Ali, a guy whose career was about getting punched in the head really, really hard, was the only person to ever see through Superman’s “disguise.”
I had this as a kid, too. Wonder what it would be worth today?
Didn’t Superman throw the fight for some reason? Or was it just Ali and the rope a dope that did him in?
Well, if you needed an excuse to run this cover shot, how about this: DC Comics is going to be reprinting this classic, after 30+ years, both in its original tabloid size and as a regular sized book, both in hard cover.
Why the wait? apparently, there were rights issues over the likenesses of some of the famous people in the audience.
But the Champ is back!
Anyone remember ‘Black Superman’ by Johnny Wakelin?

It preceeded this comic by a good four years.
Ali rules.
Anybody have any idea what that comic book is worth nowadays?
courtesy overstreet’s 39th ed (4/09):
good ($7), very good ($14), fine ($21), very fine ($49), very fine/near mint ($80), near mint- ($110)
(yes, those numbers seem suspiciously multiplicative …)
Beautiful……
The Champ was down here (Miami Bch.) a couple or so years ago for a big-time Rizzoli book release. Lotsa buzz, confetti, hoo-hah blah blah. We went to see him, but he was too (sick? embarrassed? Just shy?) to leave his trailer. Will Smith came out and made apologies for him— Smith was slated to do an introduction, but he managed to do what was necessary. No complaints from the crowd, either.
“Comic books” are one of the best things that we’ve invented to create new myths for ourselves, and to spin endless new stories out of that mythos. And gawDAMN ain’t it FUN!!!!
Putting Muhammad Ali and Superman together in a comic book seems somehow totally appropriate. I hope the Champ can still look at it sometimes.
Took me nine minutes to pronounce that last word.
