Jesse Jackson & The Dept. Of Really Bad Ideas
Tweet
So here’s the thing – there will not be economic stimulus by race. That’s a horribly horrific idea. It would be a bad idea if the president wasn’t black, but it’s an even worse one with a black president. Most get this, but in some corners of black leadership there’s this idea that Obama is mandated to bring the bacon home for black America. This is incorrect. Obama was overwhelmingly elected as the president of the entire nation. He’s not representing a congressional district with specific demographics. He represents every congressional district.
I don’t think Jesse Jackson has ever grasped that concept.

Since when is helping a particular group of superloyal constituents a problem? This is done all the time.
Obama can push legislation that helps specifically gay people, latinos, push stimulus packages that help an overwhelmingly white group (bankers), but he can’t help black people? WTF?
The $787 billion ARRA promised to create 3.7 million jobs by early 2010, but reports from the Administration show that only about one million jobs have been created. And it is unclear how many of those jobs have gone to African-Americans or to minority communities that have been hit hardest by the recession.
In industries targeted for job creation in the first stimulus bill, African-American make up less than seven percent of workers and even less of those in managerial positions in those industries. Without specific and targeted support, it will be difficult to turn around those higher than national average unemployment numbers in the black community.
Hello? McFly?

It’s not just Jesse Jackson. The Congressional Black Caucus is also pushing the president on this and I think they are also way off base in their thinking. EVERYBODY is hurting, regardless of their skin color! It’s becoming increasingly clear that a lot of Americans don’t care that the country needs to be fixed in MANY ways and refuse to help fix it.
They just prefer to whine!
Since when is helping a particular group of superloyal constituents a problem?
When you’re the President of the entire country.
OW just doesn’t like it when black people start catching on to the fact that Barry is just another liberal Dem who exploits the black populace for their votes and gives nada in return.
I just gave several examples of Obama explicitly reaching out to other groups. But because he is black, he can’t help black people? Ridiculous.
When job support and help is put in industries with only 7% black employment, that’s just fine right? Being president of a ‘whole country’ not only means you can’t reach out to black people (though one can reach out to other groups), it means its OK to give them less attention and help than what you give to others.
What the fuck are you talking about? Would you care to opine about Jesse Jackson or the topic of the post? And last I checked, the “black populace” is still firmly in approval of President Obama.
So again, what the fuck are you talking about? Are you high? Or are you just being a shit-for-brains troll?
He can’t help black people only.
LOL
Mambo sure has a penchant for talking trash using naughty words, it certainly adds credibility to everything he does. Mr. Gray is wrong though. The reason blacks support Barry overwhelmingly are more emotional rather than rational. If they haven’t figured out white liberals take them for granted they sure as hell aren’t going to consider the notion that Barry does too. We’ve seen the quality of Barry’s personal loyalty, it’s a fair metric of the man.
OW is straying ever further from the reservation, a curious thing.
The reason blacks support Barry overwhelmingly are more emotional rather than rational. If they haven’t figured out…
Seriously, and Conservatives wonder why they’re not such a hit with the black community? Could this sound any more condescending? These illogical, irrational folks just can’t think for themselves, can they?
And it’s really a lose-lose situation- if he made support for the African-American community a priority, your ilk would be screaming “OMFG HES A RACISTS!1!!!1!”… instead, we get the toungue-clucking concern trolls.
Cute.
No, conservatives don’t wonder at all why we’re not a hit in the black community. Championing the contraction rather than the expansion of the welfare state is not going to be popular in a community where merit based progress is considered racist.
But to the case in point, do you really think the black support of Obama at the 90% level is based on a clear headed examination of his policies and their long term effects.
Oh, please- Once you get past the platitudes, Conservatives aren’t champions of “merit based progress”; they’re simply against gamed systems that don’t explicitly favor their constituency. And heck: even good, Conservative, African Americans like Condi Rice and Colin Powell were in favor of certain flavors of Affirmative Action.
I don’t doubt that there’s an emotional component to the black community’s support, but again, your response seems to imply that as a group, they’re incapable of a “clear headed examination” of his policies. Plus, we’re one year into his presidency, and his administration has been a wee bit distracted by the cluster-fuck Kobayashi Maru they inherited. Perhaps they’re not willing to dump him just yet when the “long term effects” of his policies are still relatively speculative.
Out of curiosity- is Conservative disapproval, which hit the ground running, of course, just as emotional and irrational?
Please don’t think that the Black Caucus or leaders such as Jesse Jackson only speak for black people. Poor whites such as myself are not all stupid or apolitical or conservative, and the only real leadership that we have is black leadership. This is not to say that there aren’t some prominent whites that I somewhat trust (Kucinich, Bobby Kennedy, Amy Goodman, etc), but the progressive organizations that I know of are by and for people who have well-maintained computers, cars, and teeth. I don’t blame them for this. It makes sense that they shouild deal with what they know, but it does leave the poor whites neglected and also keeps a certain kind of energy that those organizations need, out of them. The disappearance of city neighborhoods has a lot to do with this. Wehen was the last time you saw a flyer posted in a public place announcing a rally/demonstratioin/march and saying “all are welcome”? No, now they”re anounced by email (one by one) and you have to RSVP to even know where and when it is! Truly, if they would look to the poor the harvest would be huge but as it is, the harvest rots on the ground. The black leadership (not talking about condi here) is the only force that knows and understands and is not afraid of the poor including even me.
No serious person has said he should only help black people. The pertinent danger is that he only ignores black people.
