Ben Shapiro Is Confused By All These Black People

12:30 pm EST December 9th, 2009 | News | 33 Comments

Ben Shapiro is a conservative columnist who jumped aboard the conservative gravy train some years ago by using the gimmick of being a “kid conservative”. The problem is, as this nutty column makes clear is that Shapiro still has the analytic abilities of a child. And not a very bright child.

dunceShapiro’s central argument is that the high support President Obama has among black voters can only be explained by racism.

How can blacks truly approve of Obama more highly than they did when he was elected? The black unemployment rate is 15.6 percent today, as opposed to 11.9 percent in December 2008, over 50 percent higher than the white unemployment rate. There is no rhyme or reason to the continued support for a man who has driven the economy off the rails.

But there is racism.

President Obama fulfills the three requirements to receive the approval of the black community: he is black; he is not currently having sex with a white woman; and he is liberal. And he receives the lifelong and unwavering loyalty of the black community for it.

By contrast, the black community hates another prominent half-black man. This half-black man happens to be a political independent who has sex with white women. His name is Tiger Woods.

These are the arguments of someone who has never actually met a black person. In the eyes of an idiot like Shapiro, a black person might as well be a Martian. Like serial racist Rush Limbaugh before him, Shapiro can’t help but to try and link President Obama and Tiger Woods, because I mean, they’re both black, right? Am I right?!!!!

The difference is, of course, Obama matters. Obama is the President of the United States, and black support for him for him is easily explained: He is a Democrat that supports many policies and positions that are popular with black people. Blacks demonstrated this supposed racism in the past by high support of white politicians, from Al Gore to John Kerry and especially to Bill Clinton. If any Republicans were smart enough to support the causes and ideas black Americans do, we may use our racism to support them as well.

Ben Shapiro’s column may as well have been titled “N*gg*rs Can’t Learn, Right?”. It continues the great tradition of the right brushing off, minimalizing and attacking black people. To them we’re never intelligent enough to make decisions on our own. It’s always that we’re duped, we’re racist, we’re on the plantation. It could never be that when you put the two parties side-by-side on their core beliefs and who they include in their decision making that the Republican party clearly has no interest in black people.

Democrats are far from perfect on these issues, but it’s not a coincidence that the only one of the two parties with black elected officials at the federal level is the Democratic party. It’s not a coincidence that the first black president is a Democrat, and that the first black RNC chairman is a clearly unqualified figurehead with no actual sway over the rank and file.

That argument is way too complex and nuanced for the likes of Ben Shapiro. His simple Simon conclusion is that blacks are clearly racist. Obviously.

Idiot.

Democrats, standing up for Blacks on important issues left and right

    Hope and change!!!

Even Harry Reid agrees, comparing Democrats in the Senate to those who supported slavery.

  2. Yeah, months of calling Obama a boy and worse but we’re supposed to believe cons give a crap about black people beyond dusting their mansions.

  3. jr says:

“Why can’t these stupid blacks be like Larry Elder?”-Ben Shapiro

  4. Tina says:

I’ve heard Shapiro’s general argument alot in recent years–if white voters favor white candidates over non-white ones and that is called racism, then why isn’t it racism when black voters favor black candidates? Logically speaking, this argument is correct IF the voters favored their candidate based on race alone. Shapiro seems to be saying since black voters have not benefitted from Pres. Obama’s term so far, that the only reason left MUST be his race.

This is, of course, incredibly simplistic and stupid, as you so aptly pointed out. Blacks have benefited, just as other Americans, in a variety of ways since Obama has been in office and agree with many of Obama’s decisions that do not directly affect them, as do many Americans.

Finally, the hypocrisy of the right knows no bounds! Their “southern strategy” in national elections has fooled lower-income whites into voting against their own self interest for decades. Now Shapiro is going to accuse Blacks of voting against their self interest. Ha! That’s rich…….

  5. SaveFarris says:

Accusation and obfuscation, with narry a supporting fact, is all you can come up with.

    Why am I not surprised?

  6. lonya says:

Seems to me the statement that Tiger Woods is hated by the black community is entirely specious. What is this based on apart from the strong desire that it be so and the need to use it as a strawman?

  7. passerby says:

It’s amazing how Obama drove the economy off the rails when Bush was still in charge.

  8. Ed Drone says:

I suspect that the few blacks* who know the unemployment rate is 16% also know that it would be 25% or higher if the Bush policies were still in action. Obama isn’t perfect, but he’s by-God head and shoulders above the cretins in the GOP.

    * Most people don’t pay attention to statistics, white or black, which is why I say, “few.”

  9. Buzz Killington says:

I’ll grant you that at best, Shapiro is being overly general. But, so are you in response. What of the people that have appeared in TV news interviews (esp. during election coverage) that explicitly said they voted for Obama because he’s black, for example? Just as there are plenty of people for whom race is irrelevant to their support for Obama, there are also plenty for whom race trumps all other issues.

  10. I’m sure a small minority did vote for Obama due to race, but I’m sure there were McCain voters like that. Black people have been voting for white candidates for some time, even when blacks were in the race, like Jesse Jackson.

  11. Burn says:

Ah, Ben Shapiro, homeschooled virgin boy wonder. He did a book on porn and culture once, and I am sure he watched tons of smut for ‘research’ purposes.

    What a maladjusted little twerp.

  12. Marco says:

The only comment I can grant Shapiro is that his “work” is so unremarkable even by wingnut standards, it doesn’t deserve comment.

  13. MrGreyGhost says:

Clearly, Obama’s done a lot for Blacks since taking office, there was those 15 minutes he spent in New Orleans and…..ummm….ummm….well, the white, liberal mantra states that Bush is still president so what do the blacks expect anyway?

  14. SaveFarris says:

He let a black man drink a beer on the White House grounds and called a cop “stupid”. What more could African Americans possibly want?!?

  15. Lazy Quaker says:

I’m white and I voted for Obama at least in part because he is black. I suppose that makes me a racist. Sorry, I yam what I yam.

(But when people said “Folks want to vote for someone who looks like themselves”, I replied “Obama looks like me. He’s tall, thin and smart.”)

  16. mambochicken23 says:

Wait a second… Reid comparing Democrats to those who supported slavery? What?

  17. mambochicken23 says:

That is how powerful and evil Obama truly is.

  18. mambochicken23 says:

I’m very confused with this. What point are you trying to get across, exactly?

  19. Duros62 says:

Yeah! Unlike Farris who invariably always provides links and facts that ultimately undermine his point.

  20. Duros62 says:

I think his point is that when you capitalize the word Blacks when speaking of black people, it means your totally not a racist prick. Oh, and Robert Byrd was in the Klan once about a hundred years ago.

  21. Duros62 says:

This half-black man happens to be a political independent who has sex with white women.

Ben’s just jealous because both Barack and Tiger have had sex with women.

  22. Southern Quaker says:

    jaw —> dropped

I was going to post something along the lines of “How long will it take the cons to defend this tripe,” but then SF broke the sound barrier with his “look over there!” post.

  23. Marco says:

    Stay classy, wingnuts.

  24. Tyro says:

Ben Shapiro’s shtick when he was “discovered” in college was always that he was a “young conservative who writes conservative stuff while he’s young!” Now that he’s not so young anymore, he doesn’t have a compelling shtick anymore, and conservatives lost interest in him.

  25. Buzz Killington says:

Agreed, but you were the one implying that it was a completely ridiculous notion, not me.

  26. eamitch430 says:

If Shapiro was anywhere near being correct, how does explain the abysmal campaigns of Jesse Jackson (who actually did quite well), Al Sharpton in 2004 and 2008 and Carol Mosley Braun (former Ambassador and Senator)?
All black, liberal and NOT having sex with white women.

  27. eamitch430 says:

    Buzz,
In October of 2007 after being in the race for ten months, Obama was not leading in support with blacks, it was Hillary by a long shot. Over the next five months you can see the shift. He earned it, like any other candidate would have had to. You know who didn’t earn it? Hillary. She had the name and didn’t do much on the trail to maintain it.

  28. eamitch430 says:

    Finally,
Tiger is not hated by me or anyone I know. If anything, we are embarrassed by him. He broke the ceiling and made it into arena so few blacks are at and was the best. He had the spotlight of the whole world on him and he went down like low-class NBA player. Thus opening racists up to remarks like ‘typical black athlete’.

Tiger is a disappointment because of what he did, not who he did.

  29. AwkwardSilence says:

Shapiro seems to be saying since black voters have not benefitted from Pres. Obama’s term so far, that the only reason left MUST be his race.

Yes, because according to Shapiro, black voters elected Obama and obviously assumed that, though he inherited two wars and a raging recession, his first priority would be to address their needs and theirs alone. And, of course, they don’t have any patience or vision (or political awareness- it’s doubtful that they’re even aware that a president’s term is four long years!), so since he hasn’t made with the quid pro quo one whole year in, there’s no reason this ignorant, short-sighted bunch would still be supporting him, ‘cept dat deys jes wanted demselves a black pres-o-dent, and dat’s good enough fo dem!

Now, I’m not black, nor am I Shapiro, so I can’t claim to know how black people think, but I’d have to imagine that this line of reasoning might be slightly insulting. Kind of like when some on the right bemoan the fact that black people vote for Democrats just because they don’t know any better, without playing that little snippet back in their heads first and realizing that statements like that are precisely why some black people are less inclined to cast the “R”.

  30. AwkwardSilence says:

And the fact that he looks like Sling Blade sporting Pete Rose’s haircut ain’t helping in this whole new-media age…

  31. Buzz Killington says:

Unless you’re trying to say that nobody supports Obama because he’s black, this doesn’t seem relevant to my point. If you are saying that, see my question about people explicitly saying that is the case.

  32. This is a statement from a confused mind.
