Want to go!

On Monday, Virgin Galactic took the cloak off SpaceShipTwo, which had been under secret development for two years. The company plans to sell suborbital space rides for $200,000 a ticket, offering passengers 2.5 -hour flights that include about five minutes of weightlessness.

‘We want this program to be a whole new beginning in a commercial era of space travel,’ said Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson, who partnered with famed aviation designer Burt Rutan on the venture.

Sounds cool, but only billionaires will be taking this up. Us average folks will have to wait till 2030(if we’re still around) for cheaper flights.

The automobile was once a toy for “the 400″ once upon a time. And once the world market for computers was “about ten”.

200,000 is still cheaper than the few million it costs to go up on a Russian rocket. If they can get the cost down to about 20 grand, I’d actually consider doing it someday. It would help if it went up a little bit higher and actually went somewhere.

Yeah, I could see LA to London in 40 minutes might have some appeal.
