Max Baucus Nominated Girlfriend For US Attorney
This is the genius that held up health care reform all summer. Thanks again, conservadems.
A spokesman for U.S. Sen. Max Baucus says the Montana Democrat was in a relationship with his current girlfriend when he recommended her for U.S. attorney.
Spokesman Ty Matsdorf says in Friday’s disclosure that the Finance Committee chairman and his former state office director Melodee Hanes began the relationship in the summer of 2008. Baucus nominated Hanes for the U.S. attorney post in Montana last March.

Nominating and recommending are two different things. Still odious, but not quite as bad.
OW, if you keep writing posts about Democrats behaving badly it just makes it harder for your trolls to call you a blind partisan shill. Have a heart, huh? There’s only so much reality they can ignore at one time.
Nepotism and corproate whoreism
Silly me. When you said “girlfriend” I assumed Baucus was a bachelor.
In case anyone hasn’t noticed: The mainstream media has published this story without mentioning that Max is a Democrat. Those who don’t know or aren’t sure will have to find that out on the blogs or on Fox.
Thanks, Max. Now in addition to making us all think about how you fucked up health care reform, you’re making us think about your schween. What an awesome week this has been.
You know, I’m aware I’ve lived a fairly boring life, but I simply cannot comprehend how these people cannot get laid without money, favors, job offers, wet suits, dildos, cemeteries, diapers or underage erotic furries involved. Can’t anyone in Washington just have sex with a fellow consenting adult in a private place without the whole world knowing? Why does it always end up being vaguely illegal or really kinky?
I think I just turned into my mother for a bit there, but seriously. These kids today with their hair and their rock music.
A.
Dems just continue to rub their power-drunk arrogance in our faces… had enough yet?
Imagine what the Left would have been saying had Mark Sanford proceeded to go and get his mamasita a gubment job… these people’s hypocrisy knows no bounds whatsoever- disgusting.
Hey, Reaganite, here’s a fun fact: did you know that “the Left” is not synonymous with “Democrats”?
Like many if not most progressives, I’d venture to guess that Oliver is disgusted by this kind of behavior regardless of whether it’s a Baucus or an Ensign who’s doing it. It doesn’t matter what “team” the miscreant is supposedly on. This ain’t football. And power-drunk arrogance has nothing to do with political convictions, authentic or otherwise.
Oh, and it’s mamacita, you silly gabacho.
Oliver is not part of “the Left?” He’s not exactly complimentary to Baucus here (and rightly so).
LOL is Spider naive or slightly dim?
“OW, if you keep writing posts about Democrats behaving badly it just makes it harder for your trolls to call you a blind partisan shill”
Ollie is hammering anyone who stands in the way of the public option, insurance welfare. He’s a blind shill for the Obama welfare state. Remember, propaganda for the hard left socialists is his job, not just partisanship it’s how he pays the bills.
Evidently AO has missed the frequent occasions this blog went after John Edwards.
And William Jefferson, and any Dems that are actually corrupt. But AO’s never been known to deal in reality.
You mean the same lily white John Edwards who represented a threat to the first african with a shot at the presidency? You can’t really blame blacks for rallying around Obama but you’re pretty naive if you think it is just more of the same blind support of the liberal Democrat party that charactorizes their general voting patterns.
LOL,
It’s pretty damn hard to support a criminal who doesn’t stand a chance of explaining his frozen assets. If corrupt Democrats bother you where is the outrage over Rangel’s blatant tax cheating? I haven’t noticed much introspection over Jack Murtha’s narrow escape when he was caught on tape basically negotiating with the arabs.
Racist much? Blacks have spent decades happily voting for white guys. Are you saying I wrote negative things about Edwards because he ran against Obama, if so – pretty stupid, considering that in 2004 I ran a John Edwards for President blog.
Your argument is that I’ve only said negative things about Dems in regard to my master plot to reform the health care system. I and others have shown the charge to be another con fantasy.
Why yes, Amused Observer is racist much.
Gee, Joe. You clearly have issues with your reading comprehension skills, don’t you.
The very story that this blog post is linked to, published by that oh-so-very-alternative/fringe/narrowly circulated media source, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS (that’s what “AP” stands for, for f^%king sakes!) reads in its second paragraph, and I quote, as follows:
“Baucus said that he began dating former state office director Melodee Hanes after they were both separated from their spouses. The Montana Democrat said they did not have an affair, but began dating while she worked for him.”
And here you were just saying:
“In case anyone hasn’t noticed: The mainstream media has published this story without mentioning that Max is a Democrat. Those who don’t know or aren’t sure will have to find that out on the blogs or on Fox.”
Jeezus. What body part did you have to reach up into to pull this bullshit out of, anyway. And was it your own bodypart, or — perhaps — one that was attached to Rush Limbaugh or some other wingnutty talking head that gets paid a king’s ransom to drop these total piles of shit all over the place for people like you to scramble after and swallow without even chewing like candy falling from a freakin’ piñata.
“
Good point on that “gubment job” thing. But that got me to thinking…
I don’t suppose there’s any hypocrisy in your failure to acknowledge that the “gubment money” that Mark Sanford spent to take him to the promised land of Argentina to see his lady friend for the purpose of committing adulterous acts, nor the fact that he flat out went AWOL from his official duties as a United States governor for several days, which was flagrantly irresponsible and demonstrated total contempt for the office he holds and the people he is sworn to serve AND a total lack of judgment rises to at least as high a level of misconduct as that demonstrated by Max Baucus. Do you?
So I guess the question of who’s a bigger hypocrite will remain up for debate. One thing’s pretty clear from your post, though, papa-cita: You’re a sexist AND a racist.
Have a nice day.
Amused Observer is making excellent use of those GOP™ brand Movable Goalposts.
And William Jefferson, and any Dems that are actually corrupt. But AO’s never been known to deal in reality.
Lemme give you a hand with that, O.
Charlie Rangel, tax fraudster extraordinaire
Chris Dodd, mortgage scammer
Valerie Jarrett, slumlord
Jack Murtha, valued ($) friend to lobbyists, defense contractors, and anyone else willing to pay off Murtha’s family
Dianne Feinstein, steered billions in earmarks to her husband’s businesses
Oh, and there was that one guy from Illinois, I think, who steered a million-dollar earmark to the hospital where his wife works — and who coincidentally then got her pay tripled for a job that was so critical, after she left they didn’t bother filling it. But his name escapes me, so I’ll let that one slide.
Someone got a name? Anyone? Bueller?
Anyway, you’re welcome. Happy denouncing!
Ollie is hammering anyone who stands in the way of the public option, insurance welfare.
Posting negatives about a Democrat doesn’t count if it’s one of the “good” Democrats conservatives have temporarily adopted.
G’bye, Max. It’s been swell. Hit the road.
Like I’ve said, when there is corruption on my own side – instead of how the GOP did covering up Mark Foley – I will call it out. But I won’t carry GOP water vs Dems for high Broderism. You guys have nothing to stand on after almost a decade of Tom DeLay.
Also, I’m assuming this is Dennis.
No Dennis, just a Menace. To your hypocrisy and double standards and echo chamber.
Corrupt Republicans? Plenty of them. Foley, though — you mean the guy who stayed within the letter of the law while being a complete and utter douchebag? Good riddance. But there was no crime to cover up there.
Unlike the worthies I mentioned above, but you don’t want to talk about.
I guess Murtha, Rangel, et al being on the “right” side of health care gets them a pass from you, right? After all, you make such a point of kicking those who don’t march in lockstep with your wishes just that much harder.
O, you got a perfect right to pick and choose over your outrage. After all, we can’t all get bent out of shape over everything. But you don’t get to boast how you are non-partisan on corruption, then pull a “look over there at the Republicans!” when someone points out quite a few of extremely corrupt Democrats you apparently have no problems with.
Especially when you’ve implied that politicians’ posiition on health care influences how you treat them — see your comments on Baucus above.
Sorry to harsh your mellow, dude. But that brown, sticky, stinky stuff you’re handing out? It’s bullshit. Straight from the pasture.
Huh. My comment’s being held for moderation. Is it the comment, or me?
Looks like it’s the comment. Maybe I’ll revise it a little…
They don’t get a pass, they just need more proof of wrongdoing than “they’re democrats!”. So far, in the case of Murtha there’s good evidence that he’s corrupt and should go. Again, I don’t support corruption even when it’s in my party – not like the right does.
Especially when you’ve implied that politicians’ posiition on health care influences how you treat them
My point was in addition to being a douche on an important issue like health care, Baucus was also being unethical with his gal pal.
And what Mark Foley did, while legal, was amazingly unethical and a violation of trust. And the GOP knew. And they helped cover it up.
Was there a law passed somewhere that any conservative not named Joe White posting on this thread has to write something vaguely racist (Reaganite Republican calling Sanford’s Argentinean mistress a “mamasita,” AO calling Obama an “african”). And speaking of OGJ (Our Guy Joe), a tip of my hat to him for (implicitly) acknowledging that Fox is not a media source that is “mainstream.” I certainly agree with you there Joe (although he lowers his grade a bit when he incorrectly implies the same characterization to the Associated Press)!
QIAB impugning the motives of AO for the latter impugning the motives of Oliver for criticizing Baucus here. Hah, I love it!
Oh, just being a Democrat isn’t enough to label them corrupt. I’m sure there are plenty of honest Democrats in Congress. Possibly even as many as two dozen.
I’m not interested in discussing corrupt Republicans here. There are plenty. You brought up Foley and DeLay, and I’m sure you have Cunningham waiting.
But they’re yesterday’s news. And the point isn’t which party is more corrupt, it’s your saying that you go after corrupt Democrats — and that’s been conclusively disproven. Rangel and his millions in tax evasion, abuse of rent controls, and other frauds. Dodd and his sweetheart mortgages from Countrywide as a “Friend of Angelo.” Valerie Jarrett and Tony Rezko ran public housing projects like Parc Grove that they turned into uninhabitable slums while collecting millions in government money.
So, just what is your single, unifying standard for when you call out scumbags, O? Right now, it looks like “accused” for Republicans, “damn near convicted” for Democrats. Especially if they’re in a useful position for your pet political causes. Such as Dodd, Rangel, Jarrett…
I’m not interested in discussing corrupt Republicans here.
And you accuse OW of partisan bias?
daniel, it’s a Mobius strip of fun. Hang on, it’s a bumpy ride!
O, there’d be plenty of evidence of wrongdoing if Congress’ Ethics Committees would just look into Dodd, Rangel, and Murtha. But that ain’t gonna happen any time soon. Pelosi and Slender Reid have made it abundantly clear that their dedication to “reform” and “ethics” is in name only.
The Senate Ethics Commitee looked into Dodd and cleared him of any wrongdoing, Joe. I agree with you about Rangel and Murtha, though.
