Don’t Buy The Hype

3:11 pm EST December 1st, 2009 | News | 13 Comments

Charles Johnson’s apparent denunciation of the conservative blogosphere is all the chatter today. Whatever. For years the guy operated a bigoted, anti-Muslim website and just last year effectively defended segregation to attack Obama. That doesn’t all go away. The same way for years Andrew Sullivan decried the left as decadent fifth columnists and lauded to the skies the destructive presidency of George W. Bush.

The only one of these conversions that has been believable was John Cole‘s, and I only know that because I’ve known John online for some time. The rest? Don’t believe the hype.

I refuse to believe the hype about David Brock.

  2. Well I guess that means the end for MMFA then. Hope you saved your dough, Oliver.

All the things he lists were readily apparent to the most drunken observer in 2002. Ah well, better late than never? What does he want, a hero cookie?

  4. Duros62 says:

    Yes, yes he does.

It’s simple free market, supply and demand economics. There’s a vast oversupply of Teh Crazy. Some suppliers are literally giving it away. The price of Teh Crazy has been driven so low that some providers are getting out of the market altogether.

Sure, the big producers of Teh Crazy, like Beck, Limbaugh, and Krauthammer have nothing to worry about. But some of the second tier players are starting to falter. When was the last time you heard anything about Savage? Coulter? Ingraham? And the little guys? They’re being completely crowded out.

So really, it’s not surprising at all that some of the lesser players are trying to break into new markets.

It’s not the hype, it’s the fact they’re abandoning the conservative movement that interests me. It’s the polar opposite of 1964, when Buckley disowned the John Birchers.

One thing I gotta give O props for here is his tolerance of dissenting opinions. Charles rules his comments section with an iron fist; even the slightest disagreement from what Charles dictates gets the dissenter denounced, mocked, insulted, and banned in short order.

Charles’ reasons, though, are just teh stupid. Two European political parties and Robert Stacey McCain? Sarah Palin and the desire to put women back into the middle ages?

He did you one great service, though, Oliver — he plays the “racist” card faster and more frequently than seven of you could. He done stole that title away from you.

What’s to say? Anyone with a quarter of a brain would have realized on November 4, 2008
that the right wing would be pissing themselves, eating their own children and calling forth
the souls of every hater, lunatic and dead ender that the GOP could pull out of bunkers, survivalist
shacks, barbecues in the suburbs and CPAC conventions.

Good luck Charles— your supposed ex-people are nuts.

You’re more than welcome to Charles, Leota. Him and his ever-shrinkin gang of lickspittles.

Just don’t ever HINT that you don’t agree with him 100%.

Nice catch on the David Brock parallels, though…

    sigh.

Joe—I don’t believe I shall be inviting Charles over for tea or anything else.
But thanks for looking out. I KNOW his work– and it’s dirty.

I agree. Sullivan’s all over the place. It depends on the day of the week and time of day. I only read Johnson when someone linked to him. I found him disgusting. I don’t understand his strategy now, or is it just an internecine feud? John Cole, on the other hand, readily admits he made a judgmental mistake and while he will take the Dems to task, I think it’s constructive and he allows dissenting opinions on his site. I didn’t read John before he “crossed over”. I still wouldn’t call John a liberal, but he’s definitely someone I’d enjoy having a face to face conversation with which is more than I can say about Sullivan and especially Johnson.
