Sweet Jesus, No More Sad Dog Stories

This story is like a text version of that Sarah Mclachlan ad for the ASPCA that makes me want to change the channel every time it runs because its so freaking depressing.

Oreo, a pit bull mix, was hailed as a miracle dog when she survived being hurled off a Brooklyn rooftop last summer. She had two broken legs and a broken rib.

Her owner was arrested on cruelty charges, and Oreo, a dark brown dog with white paws and forelegs and a white stripe down her forehead, was nursed back to health. Dozens of people expressed interest in adopting her.

They will not get the chance. After overseeing her recovery, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has decided she has to be put to death. Oreo will be euthanized on Friday, according to the society’s president and chief executive, Ed Sayres.

I know that as a dog owner I have a certain… irrationality when these stories pop up but Jesus people, stop abusing children and animals.

How sad. I believe it’s never the animal’s fault but it’s solely totally the fault of the owner how that animal is raised, trained, treated, and acts in society.

To bad we can’t euthanize the owner too. He/she deserves it more.

In the UK we have the RSPCA, and the RSPB (birds)(the R meaning ‘Royal’), but an NSPCC (for children, that’s how much we love animals), but the RSPCA does have a reputation for putting down animals more needlessly than say other animal charities in the UK. This may now not be the case, but mud sticks.

As a dog lover I just can’t understand why people can be so cruel to such wonderful animals.
