Audio: Powell Tells Obama To “Take Your Time” On Afghanistan

Gen. Powell, while I still have my troubles with what he said and didn’t say in the run-up to the Iraq War, knows a thing or two about military strategy and whatnot. Here’s what he said, in an interview with Roland Martin on Tom Joyner’s radio show:

This is a very difficult one for him. And it isn’t just a one-time decision. This is the decision that will have consequences for the better part of his administration. So Mr. President, don’t get pushed by the left to do nothing; don’t get pushed by the right to do everything. You take your time and you figure it out. You’re the commander-in-chief and this is what you were elected for.

  1. Indeed says:

If Powell ever gets around to scrubbing all that blood off his hands, then I might consider listening to him regarding military strategy. But I don’t think that spot’s coming out.

“Colin Powell was born in Kenya”-Jerome Corsi

  3. Jaim says:

Declare victory and leave immediately. Getting bin Laden was a good idea (and he may very well be dead already). Democratizing Afghanistan is folly.

  4. Duros62 says:

That’s some sound advice, General. You should let some other republicans in on that.

  5. Quaker in a Basement says:

You can’t trust anything Powell has to say about Obama because he’s, you know, one of them.

  6. NCSenior says:

I hope Obama at least listens to Powell. I strongly suspect he is very eager to redeem himself for his wasted Bush service years.

  7. Duros62 says:

Agree. I try to put it down as a good soldier following the orders he’s been given. But he’s still got some redeeming to do.

  8. Gen Powell has spent too much time at State — he has become Samson with a crewcut. He’s “one of them”, all right — a State Department pacifist. And if he has blood on his hands , it’s from My Lai, not Foggy Bottom.

  9. PTCruiser says:

I’m with you here. The key is Powell’s complete denigration of the left. No one on the left is suggesting that Obama do nothing. What many of us are suggesting is that much of what he, his advisors and the hawks are proposing cannot be done at least without disastrous consequences that will reverberate for generations.
