Michael Steele: Some White Republicans Are “Scared Of Me”
The gift, it keeps on giving.
MARTIN: But your candidates got to talk to them. One of the criticisms I’ve always had is Republicans — white Republicans — have been scared of black folks.
STEELE: You’re absolutely right. I mean I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me. I’m like, ‘I’m on your side’ and so I can imagine going out there and talking to someone like you, you know, [you're like,] ‘I’ll listen.’ And they’re like ‘Well.’ Let me tell you.

“Roland Martin hypnotized me to say that”-Michael Steele
The RNC really needs to get rid of this clown.
What, you don’t like Teh Funny?
This is awesome. Wow.
There’s something endearing about Steele. He’s so earnest about his identification with a party that treats him so badly. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but he reminds me of the cartoon dog bouncing around Spike in that Sylvester the Cat episode. Only in this case, Spike is the GOP and the panther that’s kicking his ass is Robert Gibbs. Or something.
Matt, it’s endearing until you realize he gives them cover with a certain really stupid segment of the population so they can go on being ginormous racists but not feeling bad about it in any way.
Yeah, Michael Steele, you’re terrifying. We all tremble at your approach. Mostly with suppressed laughter.
A.
The thing about Steele is that he always tries to agree with whatever his interviewer is saying. This is how he got caught mouthing pro-choice platitudes before– he inferred that this was something his interviewer wanted to hear and obliged, only to have to walk those comments back later. We see the same thing here– the interviewer raised an issue and Steele repeated it right back to him in agreement. The guy is an infratiating buffoon.
Perhaps any somewhat intelligent white Republicans out there are afraid of Steele because they fear his next totally dumb ass comment and get queasy just wondering how immensely stupid the next words out of his mouth will be.
No, Mike, white people are not afraid of you. They’re too busy laughing at you. You’re nothing more than a 21st-century minstrel.
Still think this is a stealth way of reinforcing the prejudices of a certain portion of the GOP base. It’s almost like he’s playing down to their low expectations.
Oh, no they don’t. I hope they keep him in that job for a long, long time.
Two words: House Negro.
Gift that keeps on giving.
How much are we paying him? Whatever it is, we’re getting a deal.
Damn. He keeps this up, Republicans are going to start throwing cookies at him.
