Brad Ellsworth, A Brave Blue Dog
Tweet
While we’re rightfully slagging those blue dogs who ran with their tails between their legs from health care reform – the seminal issue of our time and the most important this congress will tackle – we should also give thanks to people like Brad Ellsworth. Ellsworth is in a district that’s +8 Republican, and yet voted for the bill.
Look, blue dog Democrats are expected to vote stupidly on things like guns, abortion, and gay rights. I expect that. But on health care reform? If you’re not going to vote for that, don’t bother being a Democrat.

What’s in a name?
BrAd ELLSworth!
Ellsworth is a good guy. Former sheriff and a staunch Catholic; abortion is a key issue for him and for his district. Not sure how it would’ve looked with his getting his name on the Stupak Amendment that passed that day and then voted against the health care bill later that night- when the Stupak provisions were more anti-abortion than his proposals.
As of the day before the vote, he was still undecided, though.

So it doesn’t matter what’s actually *IN* the bill, so long as it includes “Reform” in the act’s title?
Got it.
